To develop and validate simple, selective, specific, sensitive and accurate stability indicating assay method by RP-HPLC for determination of Loxapine succinate in the capsule dosage form. Several trials are taken by changing mobile phase composition, and ratio and finally the drug was eluted on a C18 Purospher star (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) column using mobile phase consisting of water: Methanol: Acetonitrile: TEA:: 40:10:50:1 ratio and pumped at flow rate of 1.0 ml/min using 10 µl injection volume at 254 nm. The Retention time of Loxapine succinate was found to be 10.783 ± 0.02 min. The calibration curve was linear over concentration range of 75-225 µg/ml (r2 = 0.999). The accuracy of the method was estimated by recovery studies and % recovery was in a range of 98% to 102%. Stability of Loxapine succinate was studied under different stressed condition like acid, alkali, peroxide, thermal and photolytic conditions. The drug was degraded in all conditions except thermal and photolytic conditions. The developed method was validated as per...

Introduction: Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors are a class of potential drugs used as first-line agents for the treatment of hypertension and heart failure in physiologically young patients despite its side effects. Apart from the other common side effects, they are known to induce bradykinin release which alters vascular permeability leading to pancreatic edema resulting in intrapancreatic entrapment of enzymes, toxins and acute pancreatitis. Objective: To determine the effect of long term ACE inhibitors use on serum amylase and lipase levels. Methods: A total of 122 patients were divided into two groups as case and control group, were case group the patients using ACE inhibitors for more than 8 months, and control group is the patients who are on other antihypertensive. Pancreatic enzyme levels were measured by ELISA method, and the elevation of pancreatic enzymes was determined in both the group and compared by Unpaired T-test. Results: Study showed a significant difference in amylase levels between case and control groups (P≤0.002) and Lipase level among case and control groups (P≤0.003)....

Diabetes Mellitus is a major lifestyle metabolic disorder and doubtlessly a challenging public health problem of the 21st century. Diabetes is associated with reduced performance on various domains of cognitive function, this study was aimed to access the effect of insulin on cognitive function in patients of Diabetes Mellitus. It was a prospective, observational and non-interventional study. 60 confirmed cases of Diabetes mellitus, who were recently (within 7 days) started on insulin were enrolled as study subjects from medicine department in a random fashion. Cognitive function was assessed by Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination (ACE III) at the time of enrolment, then 1 month and 3 months of insulin treatment. The results were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. In results there was a significant increase in Attention, memory and visuospatial ability after one and three months, in language, there was substantial increase after one month but not after three months, and in verbal fluency, there was no significant increase after one and three months. Considering all the...

This study is to evaluate two ethyl acetate fractions of “Tongkat Ali Roots” (TAR) namely fractions-1 and fraction-2 (F-1; F-2) on blood glucose levels in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Each fraction used sixty rats which grouped into six groups (n=10). Group 1 is normal rats which received aqua dest; group 2 is diabetic rats which received STZ 60 mg/kg b.w., group 3 is diabetic rats with standard anti-diabetic metformin 10 mg/kg b.w. and group 4, 5, and 6 are diabetic rats which received tested fractions at doses of 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg b.w. Diabetic rats were induced by STZ intraperitoneally. The fasting blood glucose were assessed on days 0, 7th after diabetic inducing and 15th after giving tested fraction by using a digital glucometer (GCU Easy Touch) from the tip of the tail vein rat. The data were analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The fraction-2 (F-2) which was made from the extract of TAR by Vacuum Liquid Chromatography (VLC) using mobile phase ethyl acetate-ethanol-water...

A new simple, precise, accurate and selective UPLC method has been developed and validated for stability indicating UPLC method for simultaneous estimation of Albuterol sulfate, Theophylline and Bromhexine HCl in the tablet dosage form. The method was carried out on a Hibra C18, 250mm x 4.6mm, 5µm. a column with a mobile phase consisting of buffer and acetonitrile and buffer in the ratio of (55: 45 v/v/v) and flow rate of 1.0 ml/ min. The detection was carried out at 260nm. The retention time for Albuterol sulfate, Theophylline, and Bromhexine HCl were found to be 5.8, 2.3 and 9.7 min respectively. The method was validated according to the ICH guidelines for specificity, LOD, LOQ, precision, accuracy, linearity and robustness. The method showed good reproducibility and recovery with %RSD less than 2. So the proposed method was found to be simple, specific, precise, accurate and linear than the methods reported earlier. Hence, the method is economical, and it can be applied for routine analysis of Albuterol sulphate, Theophylline and Bromhexine...
