Almost 85% of the world population is infected with the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). Herpes simplex virus infections have been described in the medical literature for centuries, yet the drugs available nowadays for therapy are largely ineffective and low oral bioavailability plays an important role on the inefficacy of the treatments. Additionally, the details of the inhibition of Herpes virus type 1 are still not fully understood. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the antiviral property of selected phytochemicals from Verbascum phlomoides L. through their interaction with the Herpes simplex virus. Depending on the non-covalent interaction and best docking score it was concluded that these phytochemicals may be useful for treatment against Herpes infection and can act as inhibitors to Herpesviral protein receptor. Also using phytochemicals as a medium of medication may reduce the cost dependent factor and can be widely used as medicinal purposes to treat several chronic and dreadful...

The present study was designed to develop and validate a simple, sensitive, precise and accurate RP-HPLC method for simultaneous estimation of dicyclomine and ethylmorphine in bulk and tablet dosage form. The chromatographic separation was achieved on Discovery C18 column (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) as stationary phase with a mobile phase of water (pH 5.4 adjusted with orthophosphoric acid): acetonitrile (40:60 v/v) at a flow rate of 1 ml/min and PDA detection at 215 nm. The proposed method was validated for system suitability, specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, LOD, LOQ, and robustness as per ICH guidelines. The retention times of dicyclomine and ethylmorphine were found to be 3.166 ± 0.02 and 4.204 ± 0.19 min respectively. The calibration curves were linear in the concentration range of 50% to 150% of the working concentration (r2=0.999) for both the drugs in a binary mixture. The accuracy was found to be 98.61 % and 99.24 % for dicyclomine and ethylmorphine respectively. The LOD was found to be 0.05 µg/ml, and 0.20 µg/ml...

Diabetes is a noncommunicable chronic metabolic disorder characterized by high blood glucose level in the body. One of the antidiabetic therapeutic strategies is the inhibition of carbohydrate-digesting enzymes such as α-amylase and α-glucosidase. In the present study methanolic extract and its two fractions (Ethyl acetate and n-butanol) of the whole plant of Trichuriella monsoniae were evaluated for their effect on α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes by using in-vitro assays. The plant extracts were used at varying concentrations to ensure which concentration of the extract/fractions of the plant causes the most inhibition. Phytochemical analysis of the extract and its fractions indicated the presence of flavonoids, steroids/terpenoids, carbohydrates, saponin, phenolic compounds. While tannins and alkaloids are absent. n-butanol fraction shown the prominent α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzyme inhibitory activities (IC50 4.09 mg/ml and 3.30 mg/ml respectively) than methanolic extract and its ethyl acetate fraction, and it was well comparable with the standard drug acarbose (for α-amylase IC50 3.62 mg/ml and for α-glucosidase IC50 2.19 mg/ml). Further, the Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were...

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a familiar food additive processed to enhance the taste. This work was carried out to investigate the effect of MSG on platelets profile and indices of thrombus formation together with the detection of some plasma inflammatory markers. The study used adult male mice divided into five groups: a control group and four groups treated with different doses of MSG (2, 4, 8 and 16 mg/kg, respectively for 30 days, orally). The mice treated with 8 and 16 mg/kg of MSG resulted in significant high levels of plasma inflammatory markers such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Also, thrombocytosis, significant increase in fibrinogen (FIG) concentration, low values of prothrombin time (PT) and the associated international normalized ratio (INR) compared to the control group. Our study suggests that MSG initiates inflammatory reactions, which may induce thrombocytosis and coagulation complication in mice...

The aim of the present study was to explore the effect of aerial parts of Bauhinia tomentosa extract against gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity. Thirty male Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups of six animals each. Animals served as Group I (normal control 5 ml/kg b.wt, p.o), Group II (toxic control), and Group III and IV (treatment groups 200 and 400 mg/kg b.wt, p.o) and Group V (standard cystone group 5 ml/kg b.wt, i.p). All groups except group I received gentamicin (80 mg/kg b.wt, i.p) for 10 days. On the 11th day, serum profile (creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, aspartate aminotransferases, alanine transaminase, and alkaline phosphatase) and lipid peroxidation, glutathione peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and catalase levels were estimated in the homogenates of the kidney. Results showed that administration of extract significantly minimized elevated serum levels of biomarkers, decreased kidney lipid peroxidation, increased levels of reduced glutathione content, superoxide dismutase and catalase levels in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, the study revealed that ethanolic extract of Bauhinia tomentosa has a...
