Objectives: To compare the efficacy, safety and cost effectiveness between oral Balofloxacin and oral Levofloxacin in acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Methods: Total 130 patients were enrolled for the study, out of them 119 patients completed the study. Patients were divided into two groups randomly; 63 patients received Balofloxacin 100 mg BID orally and 56 patients received Levofloxacin 500 mg orally OD for 5 days. Baseline evaluation of clinical features and urine culture was performed for isolation of causative organism. After 5 days on completion of therapy above parameters were repeated and compared. Analysis of reported adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and cost effectiveness was carried out. Results: After completion of treatment clinical evaluation showed Cure rate was 82.54% and 85.71%, while Effective rate was 96.83% and 98.21% for Balofloxacin and Levofloxacin group patients respectively. Bacteriological evaluation revealed that bacteriological clearance rate for Balofloxacin and Levofloxacin was 94.91% and 98.11% respectively. There was no statistical difference between both drugs for clinical and bacteriological cure (p > 0.05). ADRs reported were...

India is the largest producer of the medicinal plants and is rightly called the “Botanical Garden of the world”. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the hepatoprotective activity of aqueous extract of Inflorescence (IA) and Pollen grains (PA) of Casuarina equisetifolia belongs to the family of Casuarinaceae against Paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats. The aqueous extract of Casuarina equisetifolia IA and PA (250mg/kg and 500mg/kg. p.o.), were administered respectively to the animals. The drug Paracetamol (2g/kg. p.o.) was used to induce the hepatotoxicity and the drug Silymarin (25mg/kg. p.o.) was given as the reference standard. The plant extract was effective in protecting the liver against the hepatotoxicity induced by the Paracetamol in rats. This was evident from the significant reduction in serum enzymes like Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), Serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and total bilirubin (TB) levels. It was concluded from the result that the aqueous extract of Casuarina equisetifolia IA and PA possesses good hepatoprotective activity against Paracetamol induced...

T-cell activation, with the low expression of CD62L (L-selectin) marker in the spleen, will increase B cell activity to produce lupus antibodies. Therefore, lupus patients need drugs which could increase the L- selectin expression in the spleen to reduce the auto-reactive T cell. The tested drug to increase the L-selectin in this research was the ethyl acetate fraction of Kalanchoe pinnata (Lmk) Pers leaves (EF-KP), based on its immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory activities. The research was performed by means of 2, 6, 10, 14 tetramethylpentadecane (TMPD) induced lupus-like mice. The experimental groups consisted of negative control (NC), EF-KP, and positive control (PC) groups. After 21 day treatment, the blood leukocyte was checked. Then, the spleen was prepared for the flow cytometry method to measure CD4+CD62L+ and CD8+CD62L+ T cells. The relative percentage of CD4+CD62L+ T cells in EF-KP groups increased insignificantly (p>0.05) (NC=7.91 ± 4.98%, EF-KP = 8.63 ± 3.07%, PC = 12.62 ± 8.09%). The relative percentage of CD8+CD62L+ T cells increased significantly (p < 0.05) (NC = 6.20...

Elaeocarpus ganitrus Roxb. is reported to exhibit multifarious pharmacological activities. However no scientific study has been conducted to evaluate antiatherosclerotic /lipid lowering activity of E. ganitrus Roxb. The present study was designed to investigate the antihyperlipidaemic and antioxidant activity of 70% ethanolic extract of E. ganitrus seed (EGEE) in cholesterol fed hyperlipidaemic rabbits. The EGEE was administered at a dose level of 250 and 500 mg/kg/day (p.o.) for 60 days to hyperlipidaemic rabbits. Lipid profile in serum and antioxidant parameters in tissues (Liver, Heart and Aorta) were determined. The statistical analysis was carried out using one way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s multiple comparison tests. EGEE showed a decrease in the levels of serum total cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, LDL, VLDL (P ≤ 0.01, ≤ 0.001) in a dose dependant manner in treated animals. HDL ratio improved profoundly as well as marked decline was noticed in atherogenic index after administration with EGEE. A considerable decrease in lipid per oxidation and a significant elevation in Glutathione, Catalase and SOD levels (P ≤...

The research investigated the modification of nano-emulsion by using transesterfied soyabean oil, to enhanced solubility and diffusion of voriconazole. Ternary phase diagrams of soyabean oil, acid / base esters of soyabean oil, Tween 80: PEG 400 (S/CoS) and water were developed. Ester value of soyabean oil increased from 214.04 to 261.5mg KOH/1g for acid ester and 293.58mg KOH/1g for base ester confirmed transesterification. The modified nanoemulsion batches E4, E5, EA4, EA5, EB2 and EB3 showed thermodynamic stability. Nanoemulsion of Soyabean oil (E3 and E4), acid ester (EA4 and EA5), and base ester (EB2 and EB3) were selected for in-vitro drug diffusion studies. The globule size of batch E4, EA4 and EB2 nanoemulsion was found to be 185.6, 162.8 and 115.4 nm, respectively. Zeta potential of batch E4, EA4, and EB2 was observed -35, -27 and -9mV respectively. The in vitro release release profiles from the E4, EA4 and EB2 batches of nanoemulsion gel were fitted into Peppas kinetic model. Moreover, ‘n’ value of batch E4, EA4, and EB2 was...
