This study was carried out to isolate and characterize the bio active constituent from Euphorbia heterophylla and also to evaluate anticancer activity for the isolated compound against Breast cancer cell line (MCF -7 Cell line). The isolation of compound was performed on ethanol extract by using column chromatography and ultra sonicator by gradient elution. The structure of isolated compound was established on the basis of chemical test, thin layer chromatography and spectroscopic evidences. (IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Liquid chromatography / tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS identification with data base library search). The yellow colour compound shows positive test for flavonoids in Thin layer Chromatography for flavonoids in the solvent system n-butanol: acetic acid: water (2:2:6) with Rf value 0.7. From the use of LCMS spectral library search system and TLC it is confirmed that the isolated compound is found to be quercetin. The Docking study was performed for the isolated quercetin against 5, 10 methenyltetrahydrofolate synthetase (MTHFS). The inhibition of (MTHFS) in human MCF 7 breast cancer cells has...

Antibacterial activities, molecular docking and DNA cleavage activities of five structurally related Schiff bases [L3 (a), L3 (b), L3 (c) L3 (d) and L3 (e)] were performed and their structure activity relationship was studied. Antibacterial activities of these compounds against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria were evaluated by using well diffusion method and the compound L3 (c); 1-[(E)-(4-hydroxyphenyl) iminomethyl] naphthalene-2-ol which carries two hydroxyl functional groups was observed as one of the most dynamic antibacterial agents. Docking interactions against p55blk kinase protein were investigated. The compound L3 (a); 1-[(E)-(3-nitrophenyl)imino-methyl]naphthalene-2-ol exhibited good docking proficiency with 24 interactions based on statistical potentials and the compound L3 (d); (E)-1-(2-methoxy-1-naphthyl)- N- (3-nitro phenyl) methanimine showed significant docking interaction based on hydrogen bonding. DNA cleavage efficiency of all the Schiff bases was investigated using Lambda DNA by gel electrophoresis...

Hydrochlorothiazide and Candesartan cilextil are used in combination for the treatment of hypertension. The aim of the present investigation was to develop and validate a simple, efficient, economical RP-HPLC method for the simultaneous estimation of Hydrochlorothiazide and Candesartan cilextilin bulk and dosage forms. Chromatographic analysis was performed on Phenomenex C18RP column (250 x 4.6mm; 5µm) with mobile phase containing 10mM ammonium acetate: acetonitrile (65:35% v/v) at a flow rate of 1.2mL/min and eluents were monitored at 262nm. The retention times of Hydrochlorothiazide and Candesartan cilextil were 3.6 min and 6.8 min respectively and showed a good linearity in the concentration range of 7.8-18.8µg/mL for Hydrochlorothiazide and 10-26µg/mL for Candesartan cilextil with a Regression coefficient (R2) of 0.996 and 0.998 respectively. The validation parameters performed were specificity, linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantification, precision, robustness and stability. Validation parameters fulfilled regulatory requirements in all cases. The percentage recoveries ranged in between 98 – 102 (RSD < 2). The RP-HPLC method developed can be successfully used for the simultaneous estimation...

Marine algae are one of the largest sources for biogenic compounds. They produce a wide variety of chemically active metabolites. They are found to possess significant antioxidant, and phytochemical activities. Macroalgae provides a great variety of metabolites and natural bioactive compounds with antimicrobial activity, such as polysaccharides, polyunsaturated fatty acids, phlorotannins and other phenolic compounds, and carotenoids. Several species of brown algae have been investigated for their bioactive natural products. The aim of the present study was to investigate the antioxidant, antibacterial activity and GC-MS analysis of active compounds present in the methanol extract of the brown algae, Padina tetrastromatica. For antioxidant activity, DPPH radical assay, ABTS radical cation scavenging assay, phosphomolybdenum reduction assay and Fe3+ reducing power assay were carried out. The maximum DPPH radical scavenging activity was 54.78%. The extract also exhibited significant antibacterial activity against the clinical pathogens, Vibrio cholera, Shigella flexneri and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The phytochemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, flavonoids and phenolic compounds. GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of fatty...

The health and nutritional status of school children is an index of national investment in the development of its future manpower. Malnutrition affects the child’s physical and cognitive growth and increases the susceptibility to infections while having an adverse impact on economic growth of the country indirectly. The objective of this study is to assess the nutritional status of rural and urban school going children (16 – 18 years) of Bankura district, West Bengal. A total of 80 school children [rural school children (Group 1; n = 40) and urban school children (Group 2; n = 40)] belonging to the age group of 16 to 18 years and the study were conducted from the month of September 2015 to February 2016. The important clinical signs like pallor, hair changes, eye changes, teeth changes, skeletal changes, goitre, skin changes and bones etc., were found significantly higher for Group 1. Mean height, weight and body mass index were significantly higher in the Group 2 school children compared to Group 1. The...
