Pesticide residues in food and crops are a direct result of application of pesticides to crops growing in the field. Large quantities of pesticides are being used to control various pests, which normally infest the economically important plants. Beans- grown across the country and provides an important source of income for the small and marginal farmers. Bean growing in five districts of Karnataka viz., Bangalore urban, Bangalore rural, Ramanagara, Tumkur, Chikkaballapura and Kolar are the prime areas in the production of vegetables identified for the detection of pesticide residues. Bean samples spiked at 0.01, 0.5 and 1.0mg/kg and average recovery rate ranged from 77.0 to 95.4% & the average RSDs from 1.2% to 6.1%. Presence of Cyfluthrin- β, cyhalothrin-λ, cypermethrin, deltamethrin and fenvalerate Acephate, chlorphyriphos, dichlorvos, monocrotophos showed values Below Detection Level (BDL). 5% 0f the samples collected from the five districts showed mean phorate concentration (0.035 mg/kg) exceeding the MRL value of 0.05mg/kg in Bangalore urban...

Objectives: To identify Immunomodulatory, apoptosis induction and anticancer activities of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of Calvatia craniiformis regarding the size of tumor mass and immunohistochemical detection of caspase 8 expressions and apoptotic index in mice inoculated with H22 mouse hepatocellular carcinoma cells as therapeutic experimental system for human hepatocellular carcinoma. Materials and methods: Forty-eight Balb/C albino mice were injected in legs with H22 cells. Tumor size was measured twice a week. Immunohistochemistry used for evaluation of Caspase-8 protein expression and apoptotic index was determined. Results: Administration of aqueous extract of C. craniiformis in (0.3, 0.6, 1.2) mg/kg and alcoholic extract in (0.25, 0.5, 1) mg/kg to H22 tumor-bearing mice show significant difference (P≤0.01) in tumor size compared with control group. Inhibitory activity of aqueous and alcoholic extracts was dose and duration dependent. Effective doses in reduction of tumor size were 1.2mg/kg for aqueous and 1mg/kg for alcoholic extract in which H22 tumor mass reduced in size for up to 87.9 %. H22 bearing mice treated with C. craniiformis aqueous...

This study presents in vitro biomimetic synthesis of CdSe nanoparticles using the enzyme, NADPH dependent-Nitrate reductase purified from fungus, Fusarium oxysporum. The synthesis of CdSe nanoparticles was accomplished in the presence of a synthetic peptide having amino acid sequence (γ-Glu-Cys-Glu-Cys)-Gly, which acted as binding molecule. The nanoparticles were synthesized in the size range of 3.9–9.0 nm was analysed using TEM. Further characterization of nanoparticles was done using techniques such as UV, PL, XPS, and FTIR. The as-synthesized CdSe nanoparticles were water dispersible containing free reactive amino groups. These CdSe nanoparticles were conjugated with bi-antennary and tri-antennary glycopeptides opening up the possibilities for their applications in bioimaging. These significant observations will help better understand the mechanism of biosynthesis of fluorescent nanoparticles using fungi. These findings promise an alternative strategy for an eco-friendly, economical, and large-scale synthesis of water dispersible CdSe nanoparticles. These CdSe nanoparticles have promising biomedical-imaging applications without a need for further functionalization....

Pharmacovigilance compiles and analyzes spontaneous adverse drug reactions (ADRs) notifications reports on pharmacovigilance databases. Benzodiazepines have been related to skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders ADRs (SSTD-ADRs); tetrazepam was withdrawn in 2013 because of these ADRs. We intended to locate possible associations between cutaneous ADRs and benzodiazepines marketed in USA; for that, we calculated Data mining algorithms (PRR, ROR, IC and EBGM) on benzodiazepines spontaneous notifications reported to the American pharmacovigilance database. ROR yielded signals for eight drugs; PRR and IC for four, and EBGM only one. Clobazam originated a signal for “Stevens-Johnson syndrome” and “Blister”; midazolam for “Toxic epidermal necrolysis”, “DRESS syndrome” and “Erythema”; quazepam for “Erythema multiform” and “Drug eruption”; and tetrazepam “Dermatitis bullous”, “Toxic skin eruption”, “Rash maculopapular” and “Rash erythematous”. Tetrazepam exhibited signals by all Data mining algorithms calculated. Quazepam, clobazam and midazolam, by 3 algorithms (PRR, ROR and IC). Our results provide new data that come to increase the limited comparative data published on the sensibility of algorithms. However, larger studies providing new clinical evaluation...

In recent years there is more research work taken in Marine sources for its pharmaceutically valuable compounds and active medicines for anticancer, anti diabetic, anti oxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory. The present study investigated for the medicinal value of red algae Griffithsia pacifica Kylin (GPK) and its alterations in enzymatic activity of STZ induced diabetic rats. The results gave significant increase in hemoglobin and glycosylated hemoglobin along with the reduction in hyperglycemia. Thus the GPK might serve as an effective natural medicine for anti-hyperglycemic effects of diabetic rats and may be promising for development of phyto medicines for...
