The challenges of free radicals and tumour promoting agents are on the increase and this informed investigation of the antioxidant property and anticancer potential of Vernonia amygdalina, a most common medicinal vegetable in Nigeria. The leaf of Vernonia amygdalina was extracted in methanol and partitioned into hexane, ethyl acetate and aqueous layers successively. Activity guided fractionation further subjected the active ethyl acetate fraction to vacuum liquid chromatography (VLC). The antioxidant activity of the extracts was measured by the DPPH radical scavenging assay. The anticancer potential of the plant extracts was assessed by the DNA nicking assay and apoptosis induction assay. The sensitivity of the mitochondrial membrane transition pore was determined by studying the rate of change in absorbance at 540 nm under energized and de-energized conditions using Spectrum Lab UV-visible spectrophotometer. The purpose of this research work is to determine whether Metafol-L improves sensory neuropathy in patient with Type 2 diabetes or not. In patients with diabetes mellitus, prolonged hyperglycemia can result in peripheral neuropathy (pain and/or loss of sensation in the extremities). Neuropathy issues may be related to Vitamin B deficiencies; therefore, the supplementation of Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6, and folate (Vitamin B9) may improve diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Metafol L is a product containing L-methyl folate, pyridoxal 5 phosphate, and methylcobalamine for management of endothelial dysfunction. Metafol-L ingredients counteract endothelial nitric oxide synthase uncoupling and oxidative stress in vascular endothelium and peripheral nerve. Studies of monotherapy with l-methylfolate, methylcobalamine and pyridoxine 5 phosphate suggest that each of these bioavailable B vitamins may reverse the pathophysiology and symptoms of DPN. To study the analgesic and antipyretic activities of ethanolic extract of Bambusa arundinacea leaves (EEBA) in rats by using models tail immersion test, hot plate test and brewer’s yeast pyrexia model. Methods: The dried powdered leaves were extracted with ethanol and the resultant extract was subjected for phytochemical investigation to identify different phytoconstituents. Analgesic activity of the ethanolic extract of B. arundinacea leaves at a dose of 100mg/kg b.w., p.o. and 200mg/kg b.w., p.o. were evaluated against the standard drug Diclofenac sodium at a dose of 10mg/kg b.w., i.p. by tail immersion test and hot plate test. Antipyretic activity of EEBA (100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg) was assessed by using brewer’s yeast pyrexia model in rats against the standard drug Paracetamol (150 mg/kg, p.o.). Post-operative delirium is transient global disorder showing reduced cognition, altered consciousness and psychomotor activity as well as deranged sleep-wake cycle. For elderly patients undergoing hip surgery, the reported incidence varies from 16% to 62% with average rate of 35%. Pharmacotherapy management of post-operative delirium may entail use of drugs belonging to groups like sedatives, antipsychotics, analgesics and others. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of diazepam compared to haloperidol in post-operative delirium. A retrospective analysis of all elderly (>65 years) undergoing hip surgery in our department between 2014 to 2016 was done to identify patients developing post-operative delirium and those treated with Diazepam or with Haloperidol were divided in separate groups. We compared these groups for parameters like duration of postoperative hospital stay, duration of delirium, number of patients showing complications and adverse events.
