Metoprolol Succinate is an effective cardio-selective beta-1 blocker, that is used to treat acute disorders such as hypertension and cardiac diseases such as angina pectoris and cardiac heart failure (CHF). Oral route is the most convenient route for introducing different kind of drugs as it is preferred as the safest, cheaper & easiest route. Newly, researchers developed fast disintegrating tablets (FDT) with improved patient compliance. The main motto of this fast-disintegrating sublingual tablet is that is placed under the tongue &disintegrates rapidly within a short span of time in the presence of saliva. First-pass metabolism can be avoided by the sublingual route &the drug directly reaches into the systemic circulation. FDTs manage to overcome from hindrances such as dysphagia in pediatric, geriatric & unconscious patients. The FDTs were formed by different conc. Of super disintegrating agents such as crospovidone by direct compression method. The compatibility study of API & other excipients was studied & determined by DSC & FTIR techniques. The formulation was evaluated by studying various parameters such...

Upgradation of conventional medications with additional therapeutic phytocompounds to combat emerging resistant pathogenic strains, is uptrend now-a-days. The current work investigates the precise in-vitro bactericidal efficacy of the methanolic extract of the unexplored seeds of a swampy weed, Hygrophila auriculata (K. Schum) Heine (MHA), Family – Acanthaceae against different uropathogens. It was observed that, 200µg of MHA has 20% of supplementary inhibitory effect on the antibiotic disc of Amoxicillin-clavulanic acid 30 against Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli. Similarly, MHA treated Nitrofurantoin 300 disc shows 25%, 4.5% and 5% of supplementary inhibitory effect against E. faecalis, E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, respectively. Ciprofloxacin 5 is supplemented by 2.8% and Streptomycin 10 by 4.5% against S. aureus. 39.28%, 42.39%, 53.36% and 90.4% of increased inhibition was recorded against E. faecalis, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and S. aureus respectively in terms of cfu/mL, on treating with a higher concentration of MHA. Present study has noted a minimum inhibitory concentration of 2.5mg/mL of MHA each against E. coli, P. aeruginosa and 1.25mg/mL against...

Introduction: Anxiety disorders are due to reduced serotonin or noradrenaline or GABA in the hippocampus. This study aims at investigating the anti-anxiety actions of verapamil. Materials and Methods: Swiss Albino mice of either sex were used. Group I – control recieved normal saline, Group II fluoxetine 20mg/Kg, Group III Verapamil (10mg/Kg), Group IV Verapamil (20mg/Kg) and Group V- Verapamil (10mg/Kg) and Fluoxetine. Each group had 5 mice. On day 9 of treatment mice were subjected to the marble burying test, light-dark exploration test, act photometer, and social interaction study. Results: Mean (sd) Locomotor activity in the control group was 267.6 (±61.77), 462.6 (± 58.2) with Verapamil 10mg, 561.8 (±33.33) with Verapamil 20mg. Verapamil significantly increased locomotion (P<0.001). The number of entries into light area was 57.20±11.78 in the control group, 85±11.26 with Verapamil (10mg/Kg) and 102.6±7.93 with Verapamil 20 mg/kg. Verapamil significantly increased the number of entries towards light as compared to control mice (P <0.001). The number of entries into dark area was 262.4±16.65 in the control group,...

Background: Having a satisfaction assessment tool that is reliable and valid is paramount in patient satisfaction research. Objective: To develop an instrument to assess the satisfaction of HIV-infected persons covering different aspects of health service delivery in Nigerian HIV treatment hospitals. Materials and Methods: The questionnaire items were developed from literature as well as from key themes identified by Nigerian patients as been most important in the delivery of high-quality care as reported in a systematic review. The following factors were assessed: construct validity, factorial validity, reliability, face and content validity, and practicality. Bishop Shanahan Hospital Nsukka evaluated the instrument’s viability, and a tertiary healthcare facility validated it. Principal components and varimax rotation were utilized in factor analysis. Utilizing internal consistency and Cronbach’s alpha, reliability was examined. Spearman’s rho correlation was used to determine the convergence and discriminant validity. Results: A 10-item questionnaire was developed in a band score of 0-10 response options. ‘’0’’ indicates complete dissatisfaction and ‘’10’’ denotes complete satisfaction. Ninety questionnaires were collected for the pilot...

Avian salmonellosis is a large group of acute or chronic diseases of birds caused by different species of the genus Salmonella. It is a problem of economic concern for all phases of the poultry industry, from production to marketing. The main aim of this study is to investigate the incidence of Salmonella species in the feed and environment of open-system poultry farms. A total of 46 samples were taken from six poultry farms, layers and broilers. The samples include poultry feed from feeders (23 samples) and litter (23 samples). Isolation of Salmonella was carried out in a selective classical medium (DCA) after enrichment in Selenite-F broth. Four Salmonella isolates represent 5% of total samples were recovered; three isolates (75%) from litter samples and one isolate (25%) recovered from water samples; no Salmonellae were recovered from feed samples. All isolates were identified at the species level using cultural characteristics and biochemical reactions. An antimicrobial sensitivity test for the four Salmonella isolates was carried out. Each isolate was tested to 10...
