Amlodipine is the third generation calcium antagonist, 1,4-dihydropyridine derivative with the prolonged duration of the antihypertensive action, especially blocking L-type Ca2+ ion channels. It promotes beneficial therapeutic effect by coronary and other blood vessel diseases and thus delays development of the atherosclerosis. It has several known trade names, the most mentioned is Norvasc. Amlodipine is well tolerated in the clinics, it could be used in combinations with other drugs – diuretics, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists, statins. Amlodipine at nanomolar concentrations binds to the voltage-dependent L-type calcium channels. It possesses optimal lipophylicity. Amlodipine also influences the NO-dependent metabolic processes, stimulates NO synthesis and prolongs NO action duration. Results of the studies of the amlodipine pharmacological and clinical properties are summarized in several reviews. The present review contains opinion from the scientific works of the last decades about the multisided or pleiotropic amlodipine mechanisms of action, it contains information about sometimes controversial clinicalstudies of the amlodipine vaso- and cardioprotective...

Anemia is a complication commonly encountered in malignancy, especially of hematological origin, either at presentation or during the course of treatment. Anemia of chronic disease, a condition characterized by disordered iron metabolism, shortened RBC half-life and inefficient erythropoiesis, is the major contributor to cancer anemia. Anemia effects up to 90% of Cancer patients with more than 60% requiring blood transfusion during or after treatment with the advent of recombinant human Erythropoietin (rHuEPO), an alternative to red blood cell transfusion has become available rHuEPO is now widely used in Cancer patients, as it improves hematocrit, lowers blood transfusion requirements and improves quality of life. So far, three drugs have been approved for the treatment of anemia in patients with malignancies (epoetin Alfa epoetin Beta and darbopoetin Alfa). New concepts for the cure of erythropoietin in cancer patients include 3 and 4 weekly dosing, as well as loading dose concepts. Although three rHuEPOs act on the same erythropoietin receptors, there are some variations on the degree of glycolylation, which lead to...

Arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by pain, swelling and stiffness. Allopathic medications have been prescribed to alleviate symptoms of this disease which results into associated side effects like heart attack, stroke, stomach ulcers, bleeding from the digestive tract, and kidney damage etc. Hence the use of herbal medicine is becoming popular due to toxicity and side effects of allopathic medicines. The plant, as one of the important sources, still maintains its original place in the treatment of various diseases, including arthritis, with minimum side effects. Considerable studies have been carried out on ethno medicinal plants; however, only few medicinal plants have attracted the interest of scientists, to investigate them as a remedy for arthritis. In this review an attempt has been done to highlight the work on indigenous medicinal plants having Anti-arthritic...

Transdermal drug delivery system (TDS) is not practically for delivery of materials whose final target is skin itself. Application topical agents generally offer many problems such as rashes, skin irritancy and burning sensation etc due to higher percutaneous absorption of drugs on the skin. Some conventional dosage e.g., gels and ointments which are often aesthetically unappealing, greasiness and stickiness etc. that often result into lack of patient compliance. For reduce this side effects, microsponge technology offers many advantage over the conventional drug delivery. The microsponge based drug delivery system is a unique technology for controlled release and enhanced drug deposition in the skin while minimizing transdermal penetration of topically active agents. Drug loaded microsponge consist of microporous beads, typically 10-25 μm in diameter. Microsponge delivery system (MDS) can provide increased efficacy for topically active agents with enhanced safety, extended product stability, enhanced formulation flexibility, reduced side effects and improved aesthetic properties in an efficient and novel manner. In addition these are non-irritating, non-allergenic, non-mutagenic, and non-toxic. MDS technology is...

Nature has always been stands as a golden mark to amplify the outstanding phenomenon of symbiosis. Ayurvedic remedies for diabetes are usually mixed formulations containing blood sugar lowering herbs in combinations with immunomodulator, detoxicants with the rationale behind such formulations being provided by modern research. Polyherbal formulations have plant-based pharmacological agents which may exert synergistic, potentiative, agonistic antagonistic actions by virtue of its diverse active principles within themselves. These pharmacological principles work together in a dynamic way to produce maximum therapeutic efficiency with minimum side effects. Medicinal plants existing even before human being made their appearance on the earth. The development procedures of herbal drugs for world-wide use has to been different form that of synthetic drugs. The raw materials for Ayurvedic medicines were mostly obtained from plant sources in the form of crude drugs such as dried herbal powders or their extracts or mixture of products or mixture of product. Apart from these systems there has been a rich heritage of Ethno-botanical usage of herbs by various colorful...
