Syzygium aqueum is a well-known edible fruit-bearing plant species. The tribal people in Malaysia used different parts of the plant to cure various ailments. The previous studies on phytochemical evaluation of S. aqueum are very limited. The present study aims to conduct a detailed investigation of phytochemicals present in the leaves of S. aqueum and also its potential use as an effective antioxidant agent. In this study, the methanolic leaf extract of S. aqueum was tested to determine its chemical composition and its antioxidant activity. The result of the preliminary phytochemical investigation in leaf extract of S. aqueum revealed the presence of several bioactive secondary metabolites such as phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannins, steroids, and terpenoids. Quantification results showed that the total phenol was found to be 62.89±1.48% GAE and the flavonoid content was 15.05±0.36% QE. Further analysis of the antioxidant activity in leaf extract of S. aqueum using different antioxidant assays proved that the extract effectively scavenging diverse types of free radicals. In different antioxidant assays, the leaf extract...

The medicinal herbs used by native people of Mexico since ancient times for numerous therapeutic purposes. The plant is inborn to Mexico but is now well familiarized throughout India on wastelands. In India Martynia annua L. is a well recognized small herbaceous annual plant. The present study was carried out with HPTLC, and the results showed that there were many photochemical in Martynia annua L. Pre-coated HPTLC graded plates and autosampler was used to achieve precision, sensitive, significant separation both qualitatively and quantitatively. From HPTLC studies, it has been found that Petroleum-ether, acetone, and methanol extracts contain a mixture of compounds. Therefore, it is established that the pharmacological activity shown by them was due to the cumulative effect of all the compounds in a composite. Total eleven compounds identified; the most prevailing compounds were, Oleic acid (30.61%), 2, 5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (36.3%), 1-Hexyl-2-nitrocyclohexane (31.01%), and Cynidin-3-galactoside (34.14%). Other components were Apigenin-7-A-D, glucoside (4.4%), Pelargonidin-3, 5-diglucoside (12.9%), Ethanol, 2-(2-aminoethoxy) – (16.78%), n-Hexadecanoic acid (17.13%), Eicosanoic acid (18.55%), Chlorogrnic acid (25.07%) and...

The aim of the present work was to characterize the starchy components of Amorphophallus paeoniifolius tuber and evaluate its potential as a binder. The tuber starch was extracted and characterized in terms of Phyto-chemical and physicochemical properties. Cyproheptadine was selected as model drug, and drug excipient compatibility studies were carried. Granules containing 5%, 7.5%, 10%, and 12.5% of isolated starch were prepared by wet granulation and evaluated for pre and post-compression parameters. The isolated sample was white in color and free from contaminant with moderate flow properties. The drug was found to be compatible with excipients, as revealed in the FTIR study. Prepared granules were found to have good flow property and compressibility as evident from the angle of repose and Carr’s compressibility index. The tablets were also evaluated for hardness, friability, disintegration time and in-vitro dissolution and all the result were found to be in the standard limit as per I.P. Results shows that Amorphophallus paeoniifolius starch can be used as a tablet binder and could be effectively...

Objective: The goal of the present examination was to investigate anti-diabetic activity of Azima tetracantha Lam. leaves in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Method: At a regular interval of an experimental protocol, blood glucose, insulin, glycogen, HDL, LDL, VLDL, FFA, PL, and TC and organs to bodyweight proportion were assessed in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Histology of the pancreas and liver was also studied. The statistical analysis of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats was observed in accordance to 4, 15, 30, 45, 60 days. Results: A significant decrease in blood glucose and a significant increase in insulin and glycogen were observed in diabetic rats treated with A. tetracantha Lam. treatment resulted in a significant reduction of LDL, VLDL, FFA, TC while increased HDL content is observed. Histology of diabetic rats treated with A. tetracantha Lam. showed the pancreatic β-cells regeneration. Conclusion: These findings suggest that A. tetracantha Lam. has potent anti-diabetic activity in streptozotocin-induced diabetic...

Medicinal plants are widely used to treat disease in non-industrialized societies for not being far cheaper than modern medicines. In this study, five types of medicinal plants viz., Glycyrrhiza glabra, Aegle marmelos, Centella asiatica, Cinnamomum verum, Cynodon dactylon were collected from Alwarkurichi, Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu, and extracts were prepared using various solvents such as methanol, ethanol, chloroform, diethyl ether, benzene, and water. These extracts were checked for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus isolated from a hospital environment. On the basis of antibacterial activity, three plants viz., Glycyrrhiza glabra, Aegle marmelos, and Centella asiatica were chosen for further research in which the ethanolic extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra rendered higher activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Thin Layer Chromatography of the plant extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra was carried out, which showed the development of four bands of which the first three bands rendered higher sensitivity against Staphylococcus aureus. The eluted bands from TLC were visualized under the UV-Spectrophotometer to monitor the absorbance of the eluted three bands in the wavelength spectrum ranging...
