The copper (II) complexes, [Cu(phen)(tryp)I] (1), [Cu(phen)(tryp)Cl], (2) [Cu(phen)(tryp)SCN] (where phen = 1,10-phenanthroline and tryp = tryptophan ) has been synthesized and characterized by Infra-red Spectra, UV–Visible Spectra, EPR Spectra and elemental analysis methods. Binding interactions mode of the complexes with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) were investigated by UV–Vis absorp-tion titration, fluorescence emission, cyclic voltammetry, viscometric technique. The complexes were subjected to in-vitro cytotoxicity studies against the human liver cancer cell, as revealed by the MTT assay method. The complex was shown to be a partial intercalation mode of binding into DNA. The results show that complex 1 exhibited potent cytotoxic effects against human cell line (HepG2) when compared to complex 2 and complex 3. The complex was screened for its in-vitro antibacterial activity against one Gram-positive (staphylococcus aureus) and two Gram-negative (klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli) bacterial strains and for in-vitro antifungal activity against (Aspergillus niger, Rhizopus species, Penicillium species). The results suggest that all the complexes exhibit good antibacterial activity. The antifungal activity data showed that complex 1...

The human gut is colonized by an inherent group of microorganisms that cohabits with us and plays a critical role in maintaining homeostasis. Evidence is being piled up, showing the roles of gut micro-flora in the severity and consequences of COVID-19. The gut-lung cross talk is thought to mediate this outcome resulting in an alteration of gut-microbiome, a phenomenon known as gut-dysbiosis during the progression of SARS-CoV-2 infection. A destabilization of gut-microbial homeostasis can upset the host immune system causing critical outcomes in COVID-19 patients with preexisting co-morbidities like CVD and diabetes. This review underlies the interaction between gut micro-flora and SARS-CoV-2 infection and the consequent clinical risk factors. While we are still in the hunt for effective medication and vaccine, the administration of prebiotics along with probiotics as a prophylactic treatment for the management of patients with COVID-19 could help reduce the pro-inflammatory state leading to the new insights of novel...

The aim of this study is to develop a sensitive, specific, rapid, and precise reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method and validate it for the quantification of process-related and degradation impurities of apixaban; an anticoagulant drug. The chromatographic separation was achieved on a Sigma-Aldrich’s Ascentis Express® C18 (4.6 mm × 100 mm, 2.7 µ) HPLC column with a runtime of 40 min. Mobile phase-A and mobile phase-B were phosphate buffer and acetonitrile, respectively. The column oven temperature was set at 35 °C, and the photodiode array detector was set at 225 nm. The newly developed method was utilized to detect nine process-related impurities (Imp-1 to Imp-9) in a test sample of Apixaban. Forced degradation study was carried out under acidic, alkaline, oxidative, photolytic, and thermal conditions to demonstrate the stability-indicating nature of the developed RP-HPLC method. The developed method was validated as per ICH guidelines and found to be specific, precise, sensitive, and robust. In conclusion, the RP-HPLC method was successfully developed and validated then effectively applied to analyze...

Thrombocytopenia, a condition in which platelet count decreases (<150-450 × 109/L), occurs as a result of clinical conditions such as viral infections or cancer or as a side effect of chemotherapy or it can be inherited, but if not treated on time it can be life threaten-ing. So, here we have evaluated the anti-thrombocytopenic potential of three plant extracts (aqueous extracts of Carica papaya and Azadirachta indica, methanolic extract of Andrographis paniculata) individually and their equal, unequal, half, and double proportionate combinations against carboplatin induced thrombocytopenia in mice. Thrombocytopenia has been induced successfully in all the treatment groups as well as in the disease control group, followed by a single intraperitoneal injection of carboplatin at the dose of 125 mg/kg of body weight. The extent of thrombocytopenia was the highest on day 7. Platelet count was significantly low in the disease control group (p<0.0001) compared to all other groups starting from day 7 to the end. All groups have responded to their respective treatment and have shown an increase...

Psoriasis is a non-infectious, dry, inflammatory skin disorder. It results in patches of thick, red skin covered with silvery scales. Transdermal drug delivery is used to deliver drugs through the skin, but the skin is an effective barrier and provides resistance to drug delivery. To improve drug delivery through the skin, permeation enhancers are used. The simulation using the COMSOL software will help to treat the psoriasis skin in a non-invasive manner. The main objective is to create a psoriasis skin model that replicates skin psoriasis properties. Designing a psoriasis skin model using COMSOL Multi-physics software helps to understand the biomechanical properties of the skin when the transdermal drug and the permeation enhancer are delivered. Transepidermal water loss (TEWL or TWL) is one of the causes of psoriasis. It is the loss of water that passes from inside a body through the epidermis to the surrounding atmosphere through diffusion and evaporation processes. To reduce the Transepidermal water loss, the transdermal drug carriers like Liposomes, Niosomes, and Ethosomes are delivered...
