Bacterial infections are one of the prominent causes of health problems and mortalities around the world. Medicinal plants are a rich source of antimicrobial agents and provide a safer and cost-effective way of treating bacterial infections. The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the anti-bacterial potential of petroleum ether and methanol extracts of Anacardium occidentale L. leaf. The anti-bacterial potential of A. occidentale L. leaf was tested against gastrointestinal tract infection-causing bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Shigella flexneri, Enterococcus faecalis, Vibrio cholariae, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Salmonella typhi by using the agar well diffusion method. Streptomycin was taken as the reference antibiotic. The results indicated that petroleum ether extract of A. occidentale L. exhibited the highest zone of inhibition against Shigella flexneri (26±0.75) and least against Staphylococcus aureus (11±1.32). In contrast, methanolic extract exhibited the highest zone of inhibition on Vibrio cholariae (20±1.41) and least against Escherichia coli (11±0.21). Carbohydrate-based therapeutics are extremely potent, and many carbohydrate-based drugs are in the stage of preclinical or clinical trials. There is a growing interest in developing carbohydrate analogues for novel drug discovery as most of the recently used carbohydrate drugs display significant pharmacological activities and low toxicity. Also, the search for an antipyretic drug is a never-ending challenge. This research aimed at the development and synthesis of a series of amide-linked sugars (PV1-PV20) by coupling brominated sugars with varying amino acids coupled with nicotinic acid (GP1-GP10). Characterization of the derivatives synthesized was done by Infrared and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. Genus Curcuma L. ( Zingiberaceae), comprising of 120 species, is distributed throughout South and South-East Asia, with few species extending to China, Australia, and South Pacific. Four species of Curcuma are reported from Melghat. Of these C. longa L. is cultivated while C. inodora Blatt., C. pseudomontana J. Graham and C. decipiens are wild. C. decipiens being rare could not be collected. Curcuma inodora Blatt. Known as ‘Jangali Halad’ is a common herb of Melghat at higher elevations. In the Melghat area, populations of C. inodora are found to show many distinct variations in aerial as well as underground characters. Twelve distinct variants of C. inodora and C. pseudomontana and C. longa were collected. HPTLC screening of free amino acids showed the presence of four to eleven amino acids in Curcuma inodora accessions, while in C. pseudomontana and C. longa, ten amino acids each were found. Inflammation is a chemical-mediated defense mechanism of body. Inflammatory process is also associated with development of various diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, atherosclerosis, and diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is a most common and life-threatening health problem in today’s date. Several marketed anti-diabetic drugs are characterized with side effects. Hence there is a need to search a safe and effective anti-diabetic drug. In that regard, the present study was carried out to ascertain phytochemical constituents and to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic effect of an Indian traditional medicinal plant, Holarrhena pubescens (seed). The dried and powdered seeds of H. pubescens was extracted by ethanol and then fractionated successively.
