Surgery is one of the best options to treat cystic echinococcosis (CE, hydatid cyst). To date, surgeon used different protoscolicidal drugs to eliminate of protoscoleces during CE surgery, but most of these agents have some serious side effects. The current study aims to explore the in-vitro protoscolicidal effects of Pistacia atlantica leave extract against hydatid cyst proto-scolices. Proto-scolices were collected from livers of infected sheep and were exposed with different concentrations of P. atlantica extract (8.75 – 70 mg/ml) for 10 – 60 min. Finally, to explore the viability of proto-scolices eosin exclusion examination was applied. The major components of leave extract of P. atlantica in gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry were trans-caryophyllene (15.18%), α-amorphene (8.1%), and neoalloocimene (6.21%), respectively. The obtained results revealed that P. atlantica leave extract had remarkable proto-scolicidal effects against proto-scoleces of hydatid cysts; so that killed completely (100%) all of proto-scoleces at the dose of 70 mg/ml after 10 min of treatment. Also, P. atlantica leave extract at the concentration of 35 mg/ml was eliminated...

The present study is based on the evaluation of preliminary phytochemical screening, antitumor, cytotoxic and antioxidant activities of leaf oil of Wrightia tinctoria (Oil B). The oil B from Wrightia tinctoria leaves was subjected to phytochemical screening tests by using standard procedures. The free radical scavenging activity of both the extracts was measured by using the 1, 1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The dose dependent increase was observed in DPPH activity of leaf oil B (0.125, 0.25, 0.50, 1 μg/ml). Oil B was investigated for its short term cytotoxicity on DLA cells by tryphan blue dye exclusion method. In vivo antitumor activity was studied on DLA tumor bearing mice. Activity was assessed by monitoring the mean survival time and solid tumor volume. Wrightia tinctoria leaf oil was proved to be an effective anticancer and antioxidant agent. These results suggest that the oil B has potential of antioxidant and antitumor activity that support the ethno pharmacological uses of this plant. The remarkable activity showed by the plant could be attributed to...

A sensitive sensor for the electrochemical determination of anti-Parkinson’s disease drug; entacapone (EN) was constructed using carbon paste electrode modified via electro-polymerization of glycine (GL) incorporate gold nanoparticles (GNP) and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS). Different voltammetric techniques, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were used to characterize the properties of the modified electrode. The linear response was obtained for EN in the ranges of 4.1×10−7 to 0.5×10−3 mol L−1 with correlation coefficient 0.9990. The lower limit of detection was found to be 2.82 x10-9 mol L−1. The effectiveness of this sensor was established for the determination of EN in real samples. Also the simultaneous determination of EN with Levodopa LD and Carbidopa CD that are present in Stalevo tablets gives a good separated peak potential. Very low detection limit, simplicity of preparation and surface restoration, make the proposed modified electrode very useful for precise determination of EN either alone or in the tertiary...

Usnic acid is lichen metabolite. Lichen species are the source of usnic acid. It has Antitumor and Anti-proliferation activity. Usnic acid is poorly water soluble drug. So its dissolution and bioavailability is poor. To enhance dissolution and bioavailability of usnic acid nanotechnology has been adopted. So in this study usnic acid powder was formulated as a nanoparticle with the help of PLGA polymer. Nano-precipitation with sonication method was adopted to formulate usnic acid loaded nanoparticles. Obtained nanoparticles were undergone to characterization and evaluation studies. SEM study revealed that particles are in the range of nanometer level and it is in spherical shape. FTIR and DSC studies have shown that no interaction between drug and polymer. In vitro drug release was maximum for optimized formulation. Optimized formulation also exhibited more antitumor activity than free usnic acid. Kinetic study revealed that the drug release is zero order. It concludes nano-precipitation with sonication is effective method for preparation of usnic acid loaded...

Background: Iron deficiency anaemia poses a burden on the limited health care delivery system. Current pharmacological anti anaemic agents cause undesirable side effect like nausea, vomiting dark stool etc. Herbal remedies offer the potential for alternative treatment strategies. This study was therefore conducted in an effort to formulate a food based extract prepared from plants products. Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of amla, jageery and pumpkin leaves mixture on level of haemoglobin, Vitamin C and iron among adolescent girls with iron deficiency anaemia. Method: An experimental design with pre-test and post-test control group was used for the study. Subjects were randomized to the control and experimental group. The intervention was administered to the experimental group. The blood test is used to estimate the haemoglobin, iron and Vitamin C. Results: There was significant difference observed in the pre-test and post test level of haemoglobin Vitamin C and iron of the subjects in the experimental group. In the experimental group there was a rise in mean values for haemoglobin from 9.942...
