Aim: This study aimed to compare the analgesic efficacy of caudal ropivacaine and ketamine with ropivacaine and midazolam in paediatric patients undergoing infraumbilical surgery. Material and Methods: A study was conducted involving a group of 100 paediatric patients who underwent infraumbilical surgery. The study participants were divided into two groups: Group A received 1.0 ml/kg of 0.15% ropivacaine with 0.3 mg/kg of ketamine, while Group B received 1.0 ml/kg of 0.15% ropivacaine with 0.03 mg/kg of midazolam. The duration of the surgery, the duration of anaesthesia, the use of inhalation agents, and any complications were carefully documented. Results: The TTFAR for groups A and B were 14.5±3.50 hours and 12.26±4.12 hours, respectively. There was a significant difference in values between groups A and B (p≤0.05). The mean total fentanyl acetaminophen consumption in 24 hours was 101.79±79.14 mg for group A and 117.50±97.50 mg for group B. After the surgery, there was a noticeable difference in the FLACC pain scores between the two groups at various time intervals. Conclusion: The...

The plant Pinda concanensis belongs to family apiaceae. It was native to the Western Ghats of India, but it is now becoming rare as a result of widespread usage of the seeds for their therapeutic properties. It is an annual herb with tuberous roots, which are eaten raw by local folklore. Apiaceae is the well-known aromatic plant family having beneficial uses in home remedies, abundance of phytochemicals, used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. The plant Pinda concanensis showed presence of phenolic, flavonoid, alkaloid, terpenoid and saponin content in each plant parts with different solvents of extraction. The methanolic extract of Pinda concanensis of different parts showed highest phytocompounds which are significant P<0.005.The total phenolic content was highest in dry methanolic stem while total flavonoid content in fresh stem. But total alkaloid, total terpenoid and total saponin was more in methanolic extract of dry root. This is the first report on GCMS analysis of whole plant extract of Pinda concanensis, in which twenty-two different compounds are found. The major bioactive compounds...

The objective of this study was to evaluate the analgesic properties of supercritical fluid extracts of Acanthus ilicifolius leaves (SCFE-AI) and Benzoxazolinone (BOA) using the acetic acid-induced writhing method, formalin-induced paw lick assay, and carrageenan-induced muscle hyperalgesia. Results demonstrated that SCFE-AI and BOA exhibited potent dose-dependent analgesic activity in all tested models of analgesia. Administration of BOA (30 mg/kg) and SCFE-AI (200 mg/kg) at their maximum dose showed significant peripheral analgesic activity (p<0.05). Oral administration of BOA or SCFE-AI dose-dependently decreased the number of formalin-induced first-phase and second-phase paw licking times in mice. BOA inhibited cold allodynia and mechanical hyperalgesia in a dose-dependent manner, and it was even better than the standard drug. Our results justify the traditional use of A. ilicifolius in the treatment of various diseases associated with pain, such as...

Objective: Gingival recession is one of the most common mucogingival defects for which patients seek periodontal therapy. Treatment options for gingival recession include surgical procedures with pedicle flaps, free soft tissue grafts, gingival veneering, restorations, etc. When multiple gingival recessions involving adjacent teeth are present, the first choice is to address all recession defects at one surgical time. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the effectiveness of Alloderm over Connective Tissue graft (CTG) in managing multiple gingival recessions. Methods: A literature search with appropriate keywords was done with electronic databases viz. MEDLINE Ovid (from 1946 onwards); SCOPUS and EBSCO. (Multiple gingival recession) or multiple root coverage) and coronally advanced flap; (multiple gingival recession) or multiple root exposure) and connective tissue graft is the search term used. Results: Randomized controlled trials comparing Alloderm with CTG were included. The risk of bias of included studies was assessed, and metanalysis was done using Rev Man (VERSION 5.4). Of the 367 articles, only three went for meta-analysis. Conclusion: A statistically significant...

Plants are rich sources of chemical compounds of high therapeutic value and screening plants for such bioactive compounds is the order of the day. First and foremost, it appears sensible to probe into the chemical reserves of abundantly available but rarely studied plants. The present study was carried out to determine the presence of phytochemicals in a common roadside weed, Cleome burmanni using Gas Chromatography- Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The mass spectrum of the crude methanol extract was compared with the available library sources (NIST08 LIB, WILEY8 LIB). GC-MS analysis of the methanol extract of C. burmanni revealed the presence of 24 compounds. The compounds along with their retention time, molecular weight, molecular formula and peak area have been recorded. Cholest-4-en-3-one (19.05%) was the major compound detected followed by Urs-12-en-28-al (17.98%), Lup-20(29)-en-3-one (14.87%), 1-(1-Butynyl) cyclopentanol (13.47%) and 4, 22-stigmastadiene-3-one (10.77%). Remaining 19 compounds were detected in low quantities. Almost all the constituents were reported to possess specific biological...
