The main objective of the study was to assess the prevalence of polycystic ovary syndrome at a tertiary care hospital. This study was a prospective observational study performed for a period of 6 months in infertility and gynecology clinic. For making a positive diagnosis of PCOS, all subjects were interviewed to furnish details of menstrual history including regularity, duration of cycles, and number of cycles per year or intermenstrual interval. Transabdominal ultrasonography and tests like Tests like fasting blood glucose, fasting insulin, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), LH:FSH ratio and serum testosterone were performed. A total two hundred eight patients were attended infertility and gynecology clinic during the study period of six months, of which 67 (32%) patients were meeting the study criteria were included and assessed for the presence of polycystic ovary syndrome. Of the 67 patients, 57 patients experienced oligomenorrhea and remaining 10 patients had amenorrhea. 32 patients had hirsutism, 18 patients had acne and 4 patients had alopecia.Transabdominal ultrasonography showed the presence of polycystic...

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles have been used for various industrial and clinical applications. In the present study, biosynthesis of superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles was carried out using a fungal isolate. The fungal isolate was identified as Fusarium oxysporum SK through 18S ribosomal DNA sequence analysis. The synthesized magnetic nanoparticles were subjected to Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Scanning Electron microscopy (SEM) to measure the morphology and size of the nano particles. The topology was assessed by X-ray Diffraction (XRD) analysis and the magnetic property was assessed by Vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The nanoparticles were spherical in shape and the average size was measured as 15nm. The VSM data showed that the nanoparticles were superparamagnetic and the saturation magnetization was found to be 19.9emu/g. Since the particles were synthesized for the application in biomedical field, the particles were tested for toxicity against human monocytes through MTT [3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] assay. The MTT assay results confirmed the particles are...

The biological synthesis of magnetite nano-bio hybrid using plant extracts plays an important role in the field of nanotechnology. The present study demonstrates bio-reductive synthesis of protein coated magnetite (Fe3O4) nano-bio hybrid using leaf extracts of Datura inoxia plants and its encapsulation into liposome. Liposome is vesicles of varying size consisting of a spherical lipid bilayer and an aqueous inner compartment that are generated in vitro. Magnet-driven liposome used for the targeted delivery of drugs to organs and tissues. These liposome preparations contain encapsulated drug components and finely dispersed magnetic particles inside the liposome. Liposome is useful in terms of biocompatibility, biodegradability, low toxicity and can control bio distribution by changing the size, lipid composition, and physical characteristics. Furthermore, liposome can entrap both hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs and are able to continuously release the entrapped substrate, thus being useful drug carriers. The nano bio hybrid based magneto liposome has been prepared by reversed phase evaporation (REV) method using oleic and linoleic acid which has been shown to be driven...

The Present Study was planned to assess the acute toxicity of Solanum lycopersicum Leaf. The study was designed according to the OECD guidelines as per that the dose level used as 5, 50, 300, 2000, 4000 mg/kg. Mice were orally administrated single dose of 200 and 400 mg/kg of ethanolic extract of Solanum lycopersicum. Physical, Biochemical, Hematological as well as histopathological parameters were unaltered throughout the study. Mortality, signs of toxicity, bodyweight, food consumption and gross findings were observed for 14 days post treatment of Solanum lycopersicum extract. In addition, no significant differences were noticed in the body and organ weights between the control and treated groups. These results state that aqueous extract of Solanum lycopersicum is toxicologically safe by oral...

Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA) have been shown to be of major importance in the prevention and treatment of a range of human diseases and disorders. A number of microorganisms have been shown to produce and accumulate PUFA. In the current study we have isolated 86 lipid producing microbes from various sources like a river from northern India, lakes from southern India and marine environments off the western coast of India. The isolates were shortlisted following a preliminary screening scheme by studying a set of parameters like intensity of lipid accumulation as judged by Sudan Black B staining, amount of biomass on nitrogen limited semi-synthetic medium, lipid quantity per gram biomass, relative quantities of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and reproducibility of results. Lipid sample was extracted and derivatized for GC analysis using standard procedure. Further, GC/MS analysis confirmed that 5 isolates produce PUFA of omega-6(LA) and omega-3(ALA, ETA) type. Selected cultures have been identified by 16S r-RNA sequencing and are being optimized for PUFA production by the technique of...
