Background: Pharmacists are drug therapy experts and primary health professionals who optimize medication management to produce positive health outcomes. Clearly there are still misconception and confusion among the public on the function of pharmacists. Sometimes even the pharmacy personnel themselves seemed to be unaware of the importance of their profession. Objective: The study tried to assess the attitude of health professionals about the role of pharmacists as a professional. Methodology: A cross sectional study was carried out in Jimma University Specialized hospital on the role of pharmacists within the health sector and in industrial works. A structured pretested questionnaire was distributed to 140 health professionals. Result: 129 questionnaires were returned in a usable form, an overall response rate was 71.67%. Some health professionals (22.66%) still think that pharmacist’s job is only dispensing. In addition, treating minor illness by pharmacists had getting agreement only from 27.91% of health professionals. Especially this practice have strong disagreement from physicians (77.4%). Almost half of the respondents (48.84%) do not have very good communication...

The objective of present study is to determine the permeation of Pregabalin from transdermal patch into microcirculation of skin. Matrix type transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) of Pregabalin was prepared by the solvent evaporation technique. Several batches were prepared by using combination of HPMC and PVP; PVA and PVP; Eudragit RL-100 and Eudragit RS-100; HPMC and EC in different ratios. Propylene glycol was used as plasticizer and DMSO was incorporated as a permeation enhancer. Formulated transdermal patches were charachterised for their physicochemical parameters like thickness, weight variation, flatness, tensile strength, folding endurance, moisture content, moisture uptake and drug content uniformity. Patches were evaluated for their in-vitro drug release profile and ex-vivo skin permeation studies. Patches were also subjected to stability studies and skin irritation studies to determine their compatibility with skin. Formulation P1 containing HPMC and PVP in the ratio of 3:1 and propylene glycol, 5%w/v and DMSO, 6%w/v was found to be the most optimum formulation. P1 was also found to exhibit maximum in -vitro %drug release of...

Penicillium sp. was isolated from the mud volcano of Baratang Island, Andaman, were tested for the growth inhibition against four fungal species of dermatophytes viz., Epidermophyton flococususm, Microsprum gypseum, Tricophyton rubrum, Tricophyton mentagraphytes. Three different concentration of fungal suspension (10µl, 25 µl and50 µl) were tested using disc diffusion method. Penicillium sp. showed promising antidermatophytic activities against all four pathogens. Among the concentration tested maximum activity against M. gypseum (25mm) in the concentration of 50 µl and minimum activity expressed against E. flococusum (9mm) in the concentration of 10 µl. Further, the isolation and characterization of the novel anti-dermatophytic compound is in...

The purpose of the present study is to prepare different combinations of drug Simvastatin (SV) with different polymers like Sodium alginate (SA), Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC), Pectin (P), Dillenia (D) and Hydroxy propyl β- cyclodextrin. (HPC), thereby determine and report any possible interactions between the drug Simvastatin (SV) and various polymers both from natural and synthetic sources. The natural plant fruit seed mucilage Dillenia(D) was extracted from the plant Dillenia indica ,Family Dilleniaceae and was dried. Individual polymers and their combinations with drug SV were tested analytically and comparison of the results was done to find out any interactions. The analytical techniques used for the purpose are Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The techniques of FTIR and TGA serves as a good means for determination of any interactions as the change in characteristics of the drug peak and its melting point can be detected by the two techniques respectively. From the study it was Simvastatin when complexed with Hydroxy propyl beta cyclodextrin (HP) showed some changes but...

Most of the plant parts of Syzygium cumini aredocumented in the traditional systems of medicine in India for their key usage as a hypoglycemic in the management of diabetes. Many such formulations of Jamun fruits/seed powder are available in the market. Hence, in the present investigation, the detailed pharmacognostic evaluation of Syzygium cumini seed powders has been carried out to develop a fast, easy and efficient protocol for the authentication of the formulations of Jamun available in the market. Also, an effort has been made to quantitate the gallic acid component of tannins using different chromatographic and spectrophotometric techniques....
