Amaranthus tricolor Linn. belonging to the family Amaranthaceae is well known for curing a variety of ailments such as cough, throat infections, toothache, eczema, piles, diarrhea, gonorrhea, leucorrhoea and impotence. The present study deals with the pharmacognostic evaluation including examinations of morphological and microscopic characters, ash values, powder analysis, extractive values, moisture content and fluorescence analysis. Preliminary phytochemical screening was also carried out. Transverse section of the root showed the presence of cork cells, cortex, fibers, xylem and phloem. Total ash, acid insoluble ash, water soluble ash, ethanol soluble extractive and water soluble extractive were 12.8%, 6.89%, 5.0%, 7.6% and 20.0% w/w respectively. Phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, tannins, proteins and amino acids. The study contributes to the development of standardization parameters of the plant which helps in the botanical identification of Amaranthus tricolor...

Based on the principle of base catalyzed condensation reaction of 1, 2-diamines with carbonyl compounds, an efficient method for the synthesis of fused 1, 4-diazepines was developed. High yields were obtained for both electron-releasing as well as electron-withdrawing substituted 1, 4-diazepine derivatives by the mentioned...

A reverse phase HPLC method is described for the determination of Ziprasidone HCl capsule by analytical method. Chromatography was carried out on an ODS C18 column using a mixture of buffer solution, acetonitrile and methanol (45: 40: 15v/v/v) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.5mL/min. Detection was carried out at 230nm. The retention time of the drug was 7-9 min. The method produced linear responses in the concentration range of 50-150µg/mL of Ziprasidone .The method was found to be applicable for determination of the drug in...

Objectives: The present study was carried out to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of extracts of leaves of Vitex trifolia Linn. (Verbaneaceae). Methods: The anti inflammatory activity of plant extracts at different dose intervals was evaluated by using two models Carrageenan induced rat paw edema and Xylene induced ear edema in Mice. Acute inflammation in rats was induced by injecting Carrageenan (0.1 ml of 1% suspension in 0.9% saline) in subplantar region and topical application of xylene (0.03ml)to the anterior and posterior surface of mice ear. The mean paw volume and percent reduction in ear edema were evaluated. Results: Significant reduction in Paw volume (P<0.01) and ear edema were observed in all treated groups. Alcoholic extract showed more activity than aqueous extract and also in dose dependent manner. Conclusion: The study showed that the leaves of Vitex trifolia Linn. (Verbaneaceae) possess an anti-inflammatory...

Incidence of cancer in northeast is the highest in India. Nutrition intervention plays a vital role in the management of postponement of cancer. Objectives: To find out the prevalence rate of different types of cancer among the selected male tribal population of Shillong and dietary habits of these tribes the present study was carried out. Methods: Three hospitals from the city of Shillong was followed up for a period of three months, a total of 125 male inpatients and outpatients visiting during the period were interviewed with well-structured interview to collect data on background information, disease history, anthropometric measurement, clinical assessment, biochemical assessment, lifestyle or health hazards, dietary hazards and dietary assessment including weighment survey to assess for the nutrient intake of the cancer patients for three consecutive days. The PGSGA scoring was done to find the suitable level of intervention strategies. Nutrition intervention through Macrobiotic Approach was given to the patients and their family members using pamphlets, booklet and an e-content. Results: It was found out during the...
