Context: The leaves of Nyctanthes arbor-trisitis (Linn.) are used in Traditional System of Medicine for the treatment of stomachic, carminative, intestinal astringent, expectorant, biliousness piles, hair tonic and wound healing. Objective: To evaluate wound healing activity of Nyctanthes arbor-trisitis (Linn.) Material & Methods: Extracts from the dried leaves of Nyctanthes arbor-trisitis (Linn.) were prepared using methanol as solvent in order to investigate the wound healing activity in vivo. Circular excision and linear incision wounds were created on rats. Three groups of rats were prepared viz. control, standard and treated with extract. The methanol extract of Nyctanthes arbor-trisitis (Linn.) was tested for wound healing activity. Results & Discussion: The wounds were monitored and the area of wound was measured on 4, 8, 12, 16 post-wounding days and the mean % wound closure were reported. Epithelization period was calculated as the number of days required for falling of the dead tissue remnants without any residual raw wound. Chonemorpha grandiflora, (Roth) M.R. and S.M. Almeida syn C. fragrans (Moon), Alston (Apocynaceae) has been included in the list of an endangered medicinal plants. It is used in medicinal preparations like kumaryasavam and sudarsanasavum used as tonic3. Entire plant, roots and root bark are used for fever and stomach disorders. The plant is useful in treatment of skin diseases and inflammations. Phytochemical investigations were carried out using in vivo and in vitro plant material of C. grandiflora collected from Dandeli, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka state. Percentage of total alkaloids was found to be more in stem with bark as compared to the leaves whereas percentage of total alkaloids in callus was found to be more as compared to in vitro plantlets. TLC studies revealed different alkaloid profile in callus as compared to in vitro plantlets. Pioglitazone hydrochloride is a novel antidiabetic drug in thiazolidinediones group and it improves insulin sensitivity in insulin resistant patients. One of the major problems with this drug is its low solubility in biological fluids, which results into poor bioavailability after oral administration. The present study is an approach to enhance the dissolution rate of pioglitazone HCl by preparing solid dispersion (solvent evaporation method) using PEG 6000 as carrier in the ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:5 respectively. The drug carrier interaction study was carried out by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The prepared solid dispersions were characterized for percentage yield, bulk density, tapped density, Carr’s Index, Hausner’s ratio, angle of repose, drug content, in vitro drug dissolution and stability study. The present study was to evaluate the in vitro cholesterol esterase enzyme inhibitory and in vitro antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of the leaves of Camellia sinensis (L.). Phytochemical screening of the extract shows the presence of flavonoids, phenolics and terpenoids. The extract shows ability to inhibit the enzyme with IC50 (82.46±0.74µg/ml) whereas that of standard, Orlistat (24.15±0.59µg/ml). Antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity were also assessed by using the methods, IC50 values for Nitric oxide radical scavenging activity (396.83±0.83µg/ml), whereas for standard curcumin (260.38±0.66µg/ml), hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (47.04±2.26µg/ml) and for quercetin (70.99±1.31µg/ml). Moreover, the extract was found to scavenge the superoxide with 50% inhibition at 308.17±23.25µg/ml and standard ascorbic acid at 225.08±2.44µg/ml, IC50 for ferrous chelating ability assay (44.12±4.63µg/ml) and of ascorbic acid (47.25±.89µg/ml).
