Alangium salviifolium wang. Family Alangiaceae used as a traditional medicinal plant. The objective of this study was to evaluate the comparative phytochemical and in-vitro antioxidant activity along with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and central nervous system (CNS) depressant activities of peel and seed extract of Alangium salviifolium fruit. Quantitative phytochemical analysis for total phenolic and flavonoid content measured by Folin-Ciocalteu and Aluminium chloride method was maximum for peel (104.03 ± 0.40 mg of GAE /gm and 34.33 ± 0.24 mg of CAE /gm of dried extract respectively. In the DPPH assay method, total antioxidant capacity and reducing power assay showed significant (P< 0.05) antioxidant activity based on IC50 value. Peel extract significantly (P< 0.01) inhibited writhing (44.44 %) induced by acetic acid in mice compared to seed (37.45 %). The anti-inflammatory activity measured by the carrageenan-induced mice paw edema method was observed to be significant (P< 0.01, P< 0.05) at 2nd, 3rd and 4th hour. The percent inhibition of peel and seed was 34.97% and 35.50%, which was very close to...

Objectives: The present study was aimed to assess the anti-hypertensive effect of PLG in L-NAME-induced hypertensive rats. Methods: Wistar rats of 200-240g were given L-NAME (40 mg/kg body weight/day/p.o.) in drinking water daily for 4 weeks to induce hypertension. Rats were randomly divided into six groups: control, L-NAME control, Verapamil (20 mg/kg, p.o.), and PLG (5, 10, and 20 mg/kg, p.o.). PLG and standard drug Verapamil (20 mg/kg) was also administered daily for 4 weeks. At the end of the 4th week, hemodynamic and biochemical parameters were evaluated. Result: PLG (10 and 20 mg/kg) significantly (p <0.01 and p <0.001) and dose-dependently decreased the elevated (SBP), (DBP) and (MABP). PLG also prevented the increase in heart weight and body weight. Undesirable changes such as increased (MDA) levels and decreased concentration of enzymatic antioxidants (SOD) and (GSH) in the heart tissue were rectified after the administration of PLG (10 and 20 mg/kg). Oral administration of PLG (10 and 20 mg/kg) also restored altered levels of hepatic and renal markers, lipid profile values, and histological...

Cariogenic organisms are responsible for producing and developing tooth decay, which ends up in dental caries. It is commonly seen in both children and adults. The aim was to evaluate anticariogenic activity of Commiphora caudata leaf extract. Two different solvents such as acetone and 70% ethanol used against Lactobacillus casei and Streptococcus mutans. Agar well diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was used for this purpose. Ethanolic extract showed significant antibacterial activity against the tested organisms. Preliminary phytochemical screening of the extract revealed the presence of steroids, phenols, flavonoids and coumarins in both acetone and ethanol extract. The above observations remarkable cariogenic inhibition, which may be due to these active secondary metabolites. This may potentially treat dental caries and be used as lead(s) molecules in the development of new antimicrobial drugs against cariogenic...

Background and Objectives: As per requisition of current regulatory requirements, the simple, rapid and sensitive method by 33 factorial QbD approach was established and validated for Bilastine (BST) and Montelukast (MNT) by RP-HPLC. Method: A simple RP-HPLC method has been developed and validated with different parameters such as linearity, precision, repeatability, LOD, LOQ, accuracy as per International Conference for Harmonisation guidelines (Q2R1). Statistical data analysis was done for data obtained from different aliquots Runs on Agilent Tech. Gradient System with Autoinjector, UV (DAD) & Gradient Detector. Results: Equipped with Reverse Phase (Agilent) C18 column (4.6mm x 100mm; 5µm), a 20µl injection loop and UV730D Absorbance detector at 226nm wavelength and running chemstation 10.1 software and drugs along with degradants were separated via acetonitrile: water 0.1% OPA (45:55), of pH 3 as mobile phase setting flow rate 0.8 ml/min at ambient temperature. The developed method was found linear over the concentration range of 10-50 /ml for BST and 5-25 μg/ml for MNT, while detection and quantitation limit were found to...

Concurrent administration of herbal medicines and conventional drugs is a common practice globally, especially as the patronage of medicinal plants increases across the world. This study aimed to determine the effect of Cryptolepis sanguinolenta administration on the metabolism of chloroquine by evaluating specific Cytochrome P450 isozymes. Reconstituted freeze dried Cryptolepis sanguinolenta was administered to male Sprague-Dawley rats in drinking water for 2 weeks at a dose of 36mg/kg, followed by a single dose of chloroquine (15mg/kg). All the animals were sacrificed by cervical dislocation after 24 h of final drug administration, and the liver was excised for hepatic microsomes preparation. Using the microsomes, the PNPH, AmD and NOD activities were determined as a measure of CYP2E1, CYP2B1 and CYP1A activities, respectively. The study showed that concurrent administration of chloroquine and Cryptolepis sanguinolenta impaired the CYP-mediated metabolism of chloroquine due to competitive inhibition of CYP2B1 by C. sanguinolenta. However, concurrent administration of chloroquine and Cryptolepissanguinolenta showed no significant effect on CYP2E1 and CYP1A. Patients should be advised on the clinical...
