Centella asiatica (Linn) Urban, a herb of immense medicinal properties, has been widely used by traditional healers in the treatment of skin diseases, mental fatigue, anxiety, rheumatism, eoilepsy and leprosy. In the present investigation, the antibacterial activity of ethanol, acetone and aqueous extracts of Centella asiatica were tested in-vitro against seven bacterial species viz. Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Salmonella paratyphi, Klebsiella sp., E. coli, Bacillus sp. and Pseudomonas sp. by well diffusion method. The ethanol extract inhibited the growth of Bacillus sp. and S. aureus, maximally (14 mm each), followed by that of E. coli (12 mm) and Klebsiella sp. (11 mm). The extract unaffected the growth of Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas, and Salmonella paratyphi. The acetone extract inhibited the growth of Bacillus sp. (10 mm); the other six bacteria remained unaffected. Likewise, the aqueous extract also inhibited the growth of none of the test bacteria in this...

A simple, one-pot, and efficient method for the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives via the condensation of o-phenylenediamine and substituted aromatic aldehydes in the presence of Moringa oleifera (MO) seed extract acts as a biocatalyst under microwave irradiation. The method provides several advantages such as simple operation, clean reaction ways, and high to the excellent yield of product. The aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera (MO) seed as a green catalyst corresponds to an excellent yield for the synthesis of 2, 4, 5-trisubstituted imidazole derivatives under microwave irradiation method as a greener heating technique and one-pot multicomponent reaction acts as a green routine. All synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and LC-MS...

The binding capacity of mucoadhesive polymers with gastric mucin prolongs the gastric residence time, increasing bioavailability. In the present research work, an attempt was made to formulate and evaluate sustain release mucoadhesive matrix tablet of Acyclovir. In the present work, an effort has been made to evaluate the effect of mucoadhesive polymers on the release characteristics of mucoadhesive matrix tablets of Acyclovir. Matrix tablets were prepared by wet granulation method using different types and levels of polymers viz. Chitosan and HPMC K4M. Tablets were evaluated for thickness, friability, hardness, uniformity of weight, the content of active ingredients, mucoadhesive strength, and in-vitro dissolution studies. The studies indicated that the drug release can be modulated by varying the concentrations of polymers. It was observed from the optimization studies that the F3 formulation has exhibited the best release profile of the drug and can sustain the drug release for 8 h with optimum mucoadhesive...

Lavana kalpanas are pharmaceutical preparation in which the ‘Lavana’ and the selected ‘auṣadhadravyā’ are igniting together in a closed sampuṭā to obtain the drug ash as medicinal product. Nārikelā lavana, one among the lavana kalpana mentioned in Bhaiṣajyaratnāvali 30th chapter and in Rasa taraṇgiṇi14th chapter. Nārikelā lavaṇa proved to have a high amount of electrolytes like calcium and potassium, which have antacid properties. Here the common ingredient in this Kalpana is lavana, which possesses madhura–lavanarasa & śītaviryā and having pittahara property which might be the reason for the extensive use of Lavaṇa Kalpanasin pittajanyavikaras. The higher alkalinity of Nārikelā lavaṇa may also play an important role in its mode of action. Materials and Methods: Nārikelā lavana was prepared as per the reference in Rasa taraṇgiṇi, and analytical parameters were tested. The experimental study was conducted in pyloric ligated Wistar albino rats. Then the data were analyzed statistically using One Way ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s multiple “t” test as a post hoc test. Results & Discussion: The analytical parameters like...

Background: In India, Hypertension is becoming more common and severe, and it is linked to various socio-demographic factors. Many people are ignorant of their illness’s severity and the significance of managing it due to a lack of adequate support and education. The first step in developing a preventive program for any health condition is obtaining information regarding the level of awareness. Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice and socio-demographic factors among hypertensive patients in tertiary care teaching hospital. Materials and Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted on the sample size of 410 hypertensive patients admitted in the Medicine Unit of AH&RC during the period from February 2021 to July 2021. Socio-demographic details were collected using data collection forms. KAP scores were determined using a standardized and validated KAP questionnaire on hypertension consisting of 22 questions. Results: In our study, most of the participants were unaware of the risk factors associated with hypertension. 55% had moderate level of knowledge and same percent of participants had moderate attitude level...
