Dental caries is one of the serious bacterial diseases of the oral cavity caused by diverse Streptococcus species. Streptococcus mutans strains displayed remarkable genotypic and phenotypic diversity. Glucosyl transferase genes are recognized as essential enzymes leading to biofilm production, the destruction of the ecosystem of normal bacterial communities, and the development of dental caries. The purpose of this study is to detect S. mutans associated with Dental Caries among adults. In our studies, a total of 50 plaque specimens, 23 from male and 27 from female from dental caries patient’s samples, were collected from dental clinics in Jeddah province. All bacterial isolates were identified by culture on Tryptone Yeast Extract Cystine w/Sucrose (TYCSB), Bile esculin slant agar, and Blood agar (BA) media. The results of the current study revealed that only four (8.0%) bacterial isolates out of 50 plaque specimens were identified as S. mutans. The purpose of the present investigation is to evaluate the applicability of hupu gum and lannea gum in the design of buccoadhesive patches for extended-release over a period of 6 hours, using Salbutamol sulphate as a model drug. The efficiency of these polymers was compared with already established synthetic polymer PEO coagulant. The patches were prepared by using the solvent casting method in which, initially backing layer with cellulose acetate was formed on which patches were cast for unidirectional drug release to buccal mucosa. In-vitro drug diffusion studies were done by using Franz diffusion cells. The kinetics of both the phases were calculated, and both the phases followed zero-order for the majority of the patches. Indigenous plants like Withania coagulans fruits. Alstonia scholaris bark and Aegle marmelose leaves have been used for diabetes management by traditional Indian people for a long time. The present study was carried out to investigate anti-hyperglycemic potential of an herbal mixture comprising of extracts of these three plants in streptozotocin-induced diabetes in Wistar rats and to focus on its possible mechanism of action. Experimental diabetes was induced in Wistar rats by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (65 mg/kg). Animals were divided in five groups (n=6) and treated with herbal mixture (100 & 200 mg/kg) for 4 weeks. At the end of the study period, fasting blood glucose, oral glucose tolerance, glycol-sylated hemoglobin, serum insulin, glucose uptake from rat hemidiaphragms, and liver glycogen were determined. The present work was focused on the synthesis and characterization of magnesium oxide nanoparticles and on studying the effect of these nanoparticles on wheat (PBW-677 variety).
