The development of anti-microbial agents, microorganisms that have acquired resistance to drugs through a variety of mechanisms, have emerged and continue to plague human beings. Since, the use of anti-microbial drugs has selected drug-resistant bacteria, the proper use of currently available anti-microbial drugs and efforts to minimize the transmission and spread of resistant bacteria through appropriate infection control would be the first step in resolving the issue of resistant organisms. Synthesize and characterize some metal complexes with Schiff base derived from substituted salicylaldehyde and amino acids by an efficient methodology. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in-vitro anti-microbial activity. Synthesized compounds were examined for Anti-bacterial activity using the disc diffusion method and antifungal activity using cup plate method. The bacterial strains of Escherichia coli [Gram negative] MTCC – 443, Staphyloco ccusaureus [Gram positive] MTCC – 96, Bacillus subtilis, and Salmonella typhi using norfloxacin as standard. The fungal strain of Candida albicans with fluconazole was used as standard. In-vitro anti-microbial data represent the cobalt-containing metal complex were most active...

Medical prescription carefully conceived is essential to provide effective health care to the patient. It is a medicolegal document that should be legible, clear and complete. However, several studies have shown that prescription errors remain common worldwide, particularly in low-income countries the such Democratic Republic of Congo. This study aimed to explore the completeness of medical prescriptions in Southeast Kinshasa community pharmacies and to propose possible solutions. The study was conducted from January to Mai 2020. A total of 720 prescriptions were randomly sampled and assessed for key elements following WHO guidelines. Prescriptions analysis was performed using the descriptive statistics: percentage, mean and frequency. Prescribers, patients and drug details were recorded at an average rate of 54.41% (1.94-98.89%), 38.92% (0-94.17%), 38.23% (14.87-90.22%) and 59.28% (11.67-99.4%), 27.68% (3.05-90.55%), 38.71% (15.88-98.39%) from Ngaba and Lemba community pharmacies, respectively. Only 19.63% and 11.15% of drugs were written in generic names, respectively. The average drug number by prescription was 4.37 (1-10) and 3.29 (1-9), respectively. Our study revealed that prescription errors are a...

A new isocratic HPLC method based on reverse phase separation has been developed for simultaneous estimation of Dextromethorphan hydrobromide (DMP), Triprolidine hydrochloride (TPN), and Phenylephrine hydrochloride (PHE) in their mixed liquid dosage form. The chromatographic separation was accomplished on Agilent TC-C18 (250 x 4.6 mm, 5× m) column with a flow rate of 1 ml/min, UV detection (271 nm). Mobile phase consisting of 5 g DOSS, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, and water in the ratio of (70:10:20) pH 4.0 adjusted by acetic acid. The method was found to be selective for PHE, TPN, and DMP with retention time 4.7 min, 5.9 min, and 6.9 min, respectively. The linearity was established over the concentration range of 160-240 mcg/ml, 40-60 mcg/ml and 320-480 mcg/ml for PHE, TPN and DMP, respectively. Limit of detection and Limit of quantification for PHE was found to be 37.87 μg/ml, and 114.77 μg/ml, respectively, for TPN was found to be 10.19 μg/ml and 30.89 μg/ml, respectively and for DMP was found to be 57.50μg/ml and 174.26 μg/ml, respectively....

Objective: To assess the anti-oxidant activity of different seaweed extract. Methods: Different seaweeds as Sargassum wightii, Turbinaria ornata, Gracilaria corticata and Gelidiella acerosa were collected from Mandapam, Ramanathapuram District, Tamil Nadu, India and assessed for their suitability as anti-oxidant compounds. Seaweeds were cleaned from epiphytes, washed, dried in shade and powdered. Algae extractions were performed using different solvents such as methanol, ethanol and hexane. Anti-oxidant potential of marine algal polyphenol from methanol, Ethanol and Hexane extract(s) of seaweed were determined using different method as DPPH radical scavenging assay, Ferric reducing anti-oxidant property (FRAP), Ferrous Ion Chelating Activity (FICA), Reducing power, Total Anti-oxidant Capacity (TAC). The total phenolic content from different seaweeds considered for its anti-oxidant activity. Results: The DPPH radical scavenging activity in methanol extract of brown seaweed Turbinaria ornata (83.8%) is most noteworthy. In Gracilaria corticata it was 79.07 % in ethanol extract. In Sargassum wightii brown seaweed, high activity in methanol and ethanol extracts (75.51% and 70.16%) respectively were observed. The DPPH activity in ethanol extract of...

A simple, reliable, accurate and precise method was developed for the simultaneous estimation of Fexofenadine and Montelukast in pharmaceutical dosage form. The chromatogram was run through Standard HSS C18 (2.1 × 100 mm, 1.8 µm). Mobile phase employed was 0.1% OPA Buffer and Acetonitrile taken in the ratio of 65:35 was pumped through column at a flow rate of 0.2 ml/min. The temperature was maintained at 30 °C. The optimized wavelength selected was 269 nm. The retention time of Montelukast and Fexofenadine was found to be 0.921 and 1.101 min. The Percent RSD of the Montelukast and Fexofenadine were and found to be 0.7% and 0.4% respectively. The Percent recovery was obtained as 99.22% and 99.67% for Montelukast and Fexofenadine respectively. The LOD and LOQ values obtained from regression equations of Montelukast and Fexofenadine were 0.06, 0.18 and 0.80, 2.44 respectively. Regression equation of Montelukast was y = 6333.8x + 755.96 and y = 4038.3x + 8964.8 of Fexofenadine. The decrease in the retention and run times in this...
