Endophytic bacteria were isolated from the stem of Cissus quadrangularis on Nutrient agar medium. The bacterial isolates were cultured in Nutrient broth. Ethyl acetate extracts of endophytic bacteria were evaluated for the presence of bioactive compounds and total phenolic content. The phytochemical screening of extracellular ethyl acetate extracts showed the presence of phenols. The total phenol content in the extracellular extract of a bacterium labeled as CqB9 was found to be 7.05 ± 0.13 mg/g. The extracellular crude extract of CqB9 displayed considerable antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. GC-MS analysis of CqB9 extract revealed several peaks indicating the presence of different secondary metabolites having bioactive potential. The extract of CqB9 was found to possess antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 157.5 ± 0.4 µg. The cytotoxic activity using MTT assay showed that the crude extract inhibited the proliferation of the MCF-7 cell line in a dose-dependent manner. CqB9 was found to be similar to Achromobacter anxifer by 16S rRNA sequencing. The...

Plants as a source of medicine have been inherited and are an important component of the health care system in India. Equisetum diffusum D. Don (Equisetaceae) is one of the medicinally important plants, which is a native species to the Himalayan Mountains. It is popularly known as Himalayan horsetail. The present endeavor deals with the exploration of the chemical composition of Himalayan E. diffusum. The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained from aerial parts of E. diffusum was analyzed, for the first time, by GC–FID and GC–MS. A total of 52 compounds were identified, constituting over 93.54% of oil composition. The oil was strongly characterised by phytol (35.63%), in addition to hexacosane (8.04%), cadin-4-ene-7-ol (cis) (5.32%), n-decane (3.31%), heptacosane (2.92%), and phytone (2.95%), bisabolol-epi-α (2.6%), 4-heptanone-2-methyl (2.24%), n-nonane (2.24%) and octacosane (2.05%) as the main components. High phytol content with other major constituents reported here, provide initial evidence of a new and alternative source of substances with medicinal interest. Furthermore, identification and purification of the active compounds responsible...

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder of multiple etiologies characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. The aim is to study the impact of clinical pharmacists delivered education among type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in a tertiary care hospital. A prospective, interventional, randomized control study was carried out over a period of 6 months in the general medicine department of a tertiary care teaching hospital. Data was collected from the 129 diabetic patients at the age of 18-60 years using the KAP questionnaire, MMAS-8 item questionnaire, and foot care questionnaire. The mean age having diabetes was found to be 54.42 years. Females were found to be more affected than males. The mean BMI among the participants was found to be 27.33 kg/cm2. Among the study population, the mean KAP scores after intervention in case was increased by 32.93% for Knowledge, 45.67% for Attitude and 29.67% for Practice; the scores of MA after intervention in case was increased by 30% for high adherence, 23.33% for medium adherence and decreased by 53.33% for low...

Better patient compliance can be achieved using a combination of two drugs compared to a single drug. The main objective of the present research work has been done to prepare fast dissolving tablets of Nebivolol HCl (NEB) and Valsartan (VAL) using super disintegrating agents. Solid dispersions of VAL were prepared with Mannitol to improve the solubility and release behavior in dissolution fluid. Fast Dissolving tablets of NEB and VAL were formulated by employing the direct compression method. The prepared fast dissolving tablets were evaluated for various parameters like weight variation, hardness, friability, disintegration time, drug content, wetting time, in-vitro drug release, FTIR, DSC studies and short term stability studies. It was found that ratio 1:1 (VAL: Mannitol) shown satisfactory drug release compared to other prepared solid dispersion. Pre-formulation studies of both drugs were performed. The FTIR and DSC studies revealed that there is no chemical interaction with excipients. Percentage weight variation and drug content uniformity were found to be within the approved range of all the formulations. Evaluation parameters like hardness and friability indicated good mechanical resistance of...

Helicobacter pylori is a major etiological agent responsible for several gastric diseases such as gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer. From the last two decades, standard triple therapy is mostly recommended for H. pylori eradication; however, its efficacy is restricted by antibiotic resistance. Hence, the present study aimed at exploration for novel therapeutic agents being warranted to overcome antibiotic-associated limitations in the current H. pylori eradication regimens. H. pylori DSMZ 10242 was procured and maintained at standard conditions. Anti-microbial assays were performed (in triplicates) to determine the susceptibility of this gastric pathogen to the selected probiotic formulations (Darolac-Z, Pre-Pro, Sporlac, VSL#3, and Yakult) and commonly prescribed antibiotics. The study convincingly reports that Darolac-Z containing Lactobacillus rhamnosus and Saccharomyces boulardii possess stronger anti-H. pylori activity (24.17 mm in 20 h of incubation) in comparison to other probiotics and antibiotics (maximum inhibitory zone observed is 18.4 mm after 48 h of incubation in case of amoxicillin). The probiotic supplementation containing L. rhamnosus and S. boulardii has a synergistic effect on...
