Justicia gendarussa belongs to the Acanthaceae family. The leaves and young shoots are anti-periodic, antispasmodic, cardiotonic, carminative, diaphoretic, emetic and febrifuge. The presence of phytochemicals such as tannins, alkaloids, proteins, flavonoids, triterpenes and saponins in the ethanolic extract was revealed by the preliminary phytochemical screening, keeping in view of medicinal importance the present study is an effort to investigate the biochemical parameters of Justicia gendarussa leaves in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats for 28 days. The acute toxicity studies of oral doses of ethanolic leaves extract in rats revealed that it has a high safety profile, as the extract/fractions were well tolerated by the animals. The test drug was administered for 28 days at a different dose level 50 mg/kg, and 100 mg/kg for ethanolic extract was given orally. Bodyweight urine sugar was analyzed before and after the treatment of extract, while serum glucose was analyzed every week. The lipid and lipoprotein profile from serum was analyzed after 28 days. The ethanolic extract of Justicia gendarussa leaves significantly prevented the loss...

Background: Child abuse is a common episode, but rarely predictable. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the parent’s awareness related to child abuse measures. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional survey of 400 Saudi parents about child abuse-related factors. All participants were 20 years or older. Results: Out of the 400 parents, 96/400(24%) (41/175 (23.4%) were fathers, and 55/225 (24.4%) were mothers), have witnessed child abuse during the past 12 months. The most reported type of child abuse was the physical followed by verbal and psychological, representing 42/96 (43.8%), 28/96 (29.2%), and 21/96 (21.9%), respectively. About 19/41 (46.3%) and 10/41 (24.4%) of the fathers have witnessed physical and psychological abuse correspondingly, whereas, around 23/55 (41.8%), and 20/55 (36.4%) of the mothers have reported physical and verbal abuse in this order. Out of the 41 children reported by fathers, 18/41(44%) were males, and 23/41(56%) were females, hence, out of the 55 children witnessed by mothers, 23/55 (42%) were males, and 32/55 (58%) were females. Conclusion: Child abuse is common in Saudi...

Objectives: The intention of the present study was to isolate and identify cultural conditions of potent fungal strain VJCH-19 with antagonistic activities isolated from mangrove ecosystems of Adavuladeevi, South coast, Andhra Pradesh, India. Methods: The soil samples were collected from the mangrove habitats and shade dried. The serial dilution plate technique was employed for the isolation of mangrove fungi by using Sabouraud dextrose agar and Czapek-Dox agar media. All the strains were screened for the production of antimicrobial compounds. The potential fungal strain was designated as VJCH-19. The identification of the strain was carried out based on cultural, micro-morphological and genomic characteristics. Results: The potent mangrove fungal strain VJCH-19 was identified as Simplicillium lanosoniveum. The secondary metabolites produced by the strain inhibited several bacteria and fungi. To check the nutrient adaptation, VJCH-19 was grown on different culture media and its morphological characters were observed. Conclusion: Among the twenty-five fungal strains, VJCH-19 was found to possess antimicrobial potential and the strain was identified as Simplicilium lanosoniveum...

The aim of this study was to analyze the molecular weight of protein and in-vitro antioxidant activity of marine gastropods Turbo brunneus, Cypraea annulus, and Babylonia spirata. The molecular weight of the protein was determined using SDS-PAGE, and its antioxidant potential was carried out by DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power activity and H2O2 radical scavenging activity. The molecular weight of protein varies from 54 kDa in T. brunneus, 38 kDa to 60 kDa in C. annulus, and 44 kDa to 116 kDa in B. spirata. The DPPH scavenging effect was high in Cypraea annulus (78.30%) followed by Babylonia spirata (65.20%) and Turbo brunneus (64.89%). C. annulus showed the highest reducing power of 95.36% at 500 µg/ml concentrations and lowest reducing the power of 52.07% at 100 µg/ml concentrations in the T. brunneus. The maximum radical scavenging activity was reported in T. brunneus (71% at 150 µg/ml concentrations), and minimum activity was reported in C. annulus (8.34% at 50 µg/ml concentration). The results show that tissue extracts of three...

The objective of current research work is exploring the use of natural mucilage for sustained release characteristics for the formulation of microspheres. Orifice ionic gelation method was used to formulate the microspheres by using complex-forming polymer sodium alginate in combination with isolated mucilage. Mucilage from Colocacia esculenta corms were isolated and combined with sodium alginate to fabricate in the form of microspheres. Resultant batches were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, swelling capacity, flow properties, particle size, and in-vitro dissolution behavior. Isolated mucilage was found to be swellable in water and amorphous in nature. FTIR and DSC study indicates compatibility between drug and selected polymer. All the formulations exhibit better flow properties. Particle size was found in the range of 780-880 micron. The optimized formulation is releasing the drug for the period of 12 h. Colocacia esculenta corms mucilage along with sodium alginate can be efficiently utilized to retard the drug release and minimize the side effects of the drug, so...
