The folk population of Gurguripal has mycophilic inclination, and wild mushrooms play a significant role in sustaining their livelihood. Explorative survey work was undertaken to document the ethnomycological knowledge of wild mushrooms occurring in forest areas of Gurguripal. In the present study, 166 informants from 9 villages were interviewed and information was collected through semi-structured questionnaires and interaction based on local name, edibility, medicinal applicability, preparation, and mythological beliefs among native tribal communities of this region. Santal, Munda, and Sabar are dominating schedule tribes in consuming wild edible mushrooms as food or dietary supplement. A total of 23 predominant mushroom species belonging to 16 families were screened. Among them, 19 species were effectively used against different human ailments by the traditional healers. In particular, Termitomyces heimii, Pleurotus ostreatus, Auricularia auricula, and Ganoderma lucidum have shown higher use values and manifold nutraceutical potentials. Feronia limonia (F. limonia) is an underutilized edible fruit commonly known as kaitha. The study was performed to compare the effect of three solvents at different concentrations on antioxidant activities of F. limonia fruit. Fruits were extracted in different solvents viz., ethanol, methanol, and acetone at concentrations of 50%, 70%, and 90%. Each extract was analyzed for total phenol and flavonoid content and their antioxidant activities such as Free radical scavenging activity (DPPH), Ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), Metal chelating activity and reducing capacity (RC). The results indicate that 70% aqueous acetone works best for the extraction of TPC (35.60 mg GAE/g), TFC (31.69 mg QCE/g), and other antioxidant activities. The phenol and flavonoid content showed a significant correlation with antioxidant activities. The findings of the study suggested that F. limonia fruit is a good and cheap source of natural antioxidant which can serve as a functional food. This study is aimed at investigating both the Gram-positive and the Gram-negative bacteria of ear swabs and their antibiotic susceptibility pattern. Ear samples of one hundred (100) subjects using sterile swab sticks were collected. Sixty-seven (67) out of 100 samples collected yielded growth when incubated at 37 ºC for 24 h. Microbiological tests were carried out to characterize the bacterial isolates. Kirby-Baur disk diffusion method was employed for antibiotic sensitivity testing. Results showed 67 isolates; Staphylococcus aureus 39 (58.2%): Streptococcus pyogenes (17.9%) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (23.9%). The result obtained also showed incidence rates of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms to be 76.1% and 23.9%, respectively. The isolates demonstrated varying susceptibility patterns. Gram-negative organisms showed the highest susceptibility to Augumetin (93.8%) and Chloranphenicol (87.5%), while the Gram-positive organisms showed the highest susceptibility to Ceftriaxone (80.4%) and Ciprofloxacin (84.3%). Both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms showed the lowest susceptibility to Amoxicillin at 52.9% and 56.3%, respectively. Justicia gendarussa belongs to the Acanthaceae family. The leaves and young shoots are anti-periodic, antispasmodic, cardiotonic, carminative, diaphoretic, emetic and febrifuge. The presence of phytochemicals such as tannins, alkaloids, proteins, flavonoids, triterpenes and saponins in the ethanolic extract was revealed by the preliminary phytochemical screening, keeping in view of medicinal importance the present study is an effort to investigate the biochemical parameters of Justicia gendarussa leaves in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats for 28 days. The acute toxicity studies of oral doses of ethanolic leaves extract in rats revealed that it has a high safety profile, as the extract/fractions were well tolerated by the animals. The test drug was administered for 28 days at a different dose level 50 mg/kg, and 100 mg/kg for ethanolic extract was given orally.
