A new series of chalcones have been designed and synthesized, which are incorporated with pyridine moiety chalcones possess heterocyclic rings like pyridine, pyrazole, indole, etc. These heterocycles are cyclic compounds in which one or more atoms of the ring are hetero atoms: O, N, S, P, etc. These are important components in many of the pharmaceuticals and therapeutic drugs. These are present in so many biologically relevant molecules like amino acids, nucleic acids and hormones. In my work, I have used a pyridine compound to synthesis the chalcones. Pyridine is a basic heterocyclic organic compound with chemical formula C5H5N. It is structurally related to benzene, with one methine group (=CH-) replaced by a nitrogen atom. The pyridine ring occurs in many important compounds, including agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and vitamins. Historically, pyridine was produced from coal tar. It has an unpleasant fish-like smell. Nowadays, pyridine is produced on a scale of about 20,000 tonnes per year worldwide. A reaction involving Claisen-Schmidt condensation of 1- (pyridin-2-yl) ethanone with different aryl aldehydes in...

Prochlorperazine maleate is used for the treatment of motion sickness and classified under BCS class II for treatment of emesis, the per-oral route is preferred route of administration but first-pass effect and poor bioavailability limits its application. To overcome these limitations, efforts were made to enhance the bioavailability of drugs via the development of a sublingual tablet by melt granulation technique. The formulation was developed by the melt granulation method where PEG 6000 and PEG 400 blend and gelucire as a hydrophilic polymer were used to enhance solubility and drug release rate. The tablets were evaluated for hardness, thickness, friability, weight variation, drug content, wetting time, in-vitro disintegration time and water absorption ratio, and in-vitro dissolution studies. It was concluded that sublingual tablets containing sugar: PEG ratio drug, and lactose showed the highest drug release in the in-vitro dissolution studies. The optimized batch was subjected to accelerated stability studies. No change in physicochemical properties as well as in drug content and in-vitro release studies were...

Black tea, the most widely consumed aromatic non-alcoholic beverage second to water, is prepared by boiling cured leaves of Camellia sinensis. It is reported that black tea contains plenty of bioactive constituents, including complex polyphenols like theaflavins (TF2A, TF2B, TF3) and thearubigins that exhibit a wide range of pharmacological properties and also contribute to its quality and bioactivity. The present study aims at biochemical characterization and evaluation of antimicrobial activity of Theaflavins and Flavonoids rich Extract (TFE) and their silver nanoconjugates. TFE was obtained by steeping black tea in boiling water at 90 °C for 5 min, subsequently extracted with ethyl acetate and dried for further use. The biochemical characterization of TFE was done using HPLC and other spectrophotometric methods. Next, silver nanoconjugates of the TFE were prepared using a green synthesis route, and antimicrobial property was evaluated with respect to its non-conjugated form. It was observed that the TFE is an antioxidant rich fraction and helps in metal-nanoparticle synthesis efficiently. The study highlighted that, in maximum cases, nanoconjugates...

Recently, several methods have been developed for the determination of drugs and their impurities products by Reverse Phase-High Performance Liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The present paper describes highly specific, linear, precise, rugged, accurate, robust, and stability, indicating the RP-HPLC method for the determination of related substances present in Venlafaxine tablets as per ICH guidelines. Chromatographic separation of impurities at satisfactory level was achieved at the detection wavelength of 235 nm using column Agilent C18 column (4.6 × 150 mm, 5 µ) and a mobile phase of Methanol: Phosphate buffer of pH 6.8 (60:40% v/v), pumped at a flow rate of 1 ml/min. The % recovery of Venlafaxine and Impurity-A was found to be 98.19% and 98.97%, respectively. The % RSD of Venlafaxine and Impurity-A was found to be 0.52 and 0.83, respectively. The proposed method was found to be specific, linear, precise, accurate, robust, stable, and can be successfully used for the determination of related...

Herbal drugs have gained more importance and popularity in recent years because of their safety, efficacy, and low cost. The pteridophytes have an important role in folklore medicine, although neglected in modern days. These plants have been successfully used in different systems of medicines like Ayurvedic, Unani, Homeopathic, and other systems of medicines. Antimicrobial drugs are the greatest contribution of the present century to therapeutics. Dryopteris cochleata, family Dryopteridaceae which is popularly called as Jatashankari exhibits various therapeutic values to treat many diseases such as, epilepsy, leprosy, wounds, ulcers, diabetes, etc. was selected for the present research work to screen for antibacterial properties. The antimicrobial activity of ethanolic extract of Dryopteris cochleata was screened against two gram-positive bacteria (B. subtilis, S. mutans) and three-gram negative bacteria (E. coli, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumonia) and antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus by disc diffusion method. The extract showed significant antimicrobial activity against B. subtilis, S. mutans, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, Candida albicans but did not show antimicrobial activity towards...
