Oxalis corniculata Linn. (Oxalidaceae) is the nutraceutical important medicinal plant containing essential nutrients like sodium, potassium, calcium, nitrogen and magnesium and also gives health protection due to the presence of secondary metabolites of therapeutic importance. Present study highlights the phytochemical constituents present in the methanolic extract of in-vivo and in-vitro O. corniculata through non-targeted LC-MS analysis and to reveal the antioxidant capacities of both extracts by analyzing antioxidant assays like DPPH, H2O2 radical scavenging, phosphomolybdenum, total phenol content and total flavonoid content. The phytochemical investigation was carried out to identify the possible components from in-vivo and in-vitro whole plant extract by LC-MS. It has revealed 26 compounds having known biological activity among which embelin is the main compound. Embelin is reported for anticancer, antioxidant, antitumor and anti-inflammatory activity. We have confirmed its presence in both in-vivo and in-vitro extracts using HPTLC. Both methanolic extracts of Oxalis corniculata were compared with antioxidant references such as tannic acid, quercetin and ascorbic acid for antioxidant assays. We are first to report that...

Background: Triphala is exclusively used in more than 200 drug formulations in Indian system of Medicine. The formulation process of polyherbal drugs changes the physiochemical properties of the whole drug which need to be studied and understood. Objective: The present work aims to perform the organoleptic features (color, odor, taste), and physicochemical parameters such as pH, loss on drying, ash values viz., total ash, acid insoluble ash, water-soluble ash, extractive values viz., alcohol soluble extractive and water-soluble extractive tests and were determined under variable ratio concept. Materials and Methods: The standard methods as per traditional text were followed and the physicochemical changes were also investigated. Study of individual fruit as well “under variable ratio” concept (Amla: Bahera: Harad (1:1:1), (2:1:1), (1:2:1), and (1:1:2)) of three fruits were performed. Statistical analysis was performed at significant level p ≤ 0.05. Results: The observed range of various tests were as: pH (2.5-5.9), loss on drying (4.48-13.71), total ash (2.92-10.80), acid insoluble ash (0.53-4.92), extractive values viz., alcohol soluble extractive (39.02-73.03) and water-soluble...

Nowadays, the organic way of farming gains much more important and the people believe that the production of plants with organic farming has more nutrients and a lot of health benefits. In this, the green leafy vegetables occupy an important place among the food crops as they provide an adequate number of vitamins and minerals for humans. Solanum nigrum L. and Trigonella foenum-graecum L. are commonly used leafy vegetables in South India and also have so much of medicinal uses. The present investigation aims to identify the effect of different concentration of vermicomposting and biofertilizers on the biochemical content of both leafy vegetables. A total of five experimental models were designed T0 (control) T1 (vermicompost -15gm), T2 (vermicompost -20gm) T3 (vermicompost -15gm + Azospirillum) and T4 (vermicompost -15gm + Azotobacter). Among all treatments, the vermicompost -15gm + asospirillum supplemented seedlings were absorbed significantly more protein, carbohydrates and amino acid content, whereas the chlorophyll content was recorded more in 20g of vermicompost treated seedlings of both...

Antibiotic resistance continues to pose a significant problem in the management of bacterial infections despite advances in antimicrobial chemotherapy and supportive care. Therefore, it is necessary to search the other alternatives that can be effective in the treatment of these infections. The present work was aimed to evaluate the antibacterial and antibiotic-potentiation activities of lemon against drug resistant phenotypes. The sensitivity of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa was determined by performing antibiotic sensitivity test (AST). They were found to be resistant to tested antibiotics and since S. aureus was resistant to oxacillin it was classified as methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA). The phytochemical analysis of lemon juice and lemon peel extract showed presence of flavonoids, phenols, steroids, reducing sugar and alkaloid. Antioxidant activity which was determined by Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assay method showed increasing trend in reducing power with the increase in concentration for both samples. The antibacterial activity of lemon juice, lemon peel extract and citric acid was screened against resistant isolates by using agar well...

Intravenous administration of 5-Fluorouracil (5FU) produces severe systemic, dose-related side effects due to its cytotoxic nature, additionally, 5FU is rapidly absorbed from the stomach after oral administration. Therefore a combined floating-bioadhesive tablet (FBT) of 5FU has been developed in order to reduce the dose and associated side effects in other sites of the body. The tablets were prepared by direct compression technique. Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) K15M was used as a release retardant polymer while carbopol-971P, guar gum and sodium alginate were used as bioadhesive polymer. The pre-compression characteristics shown fair flow behaviour and core tablet properties were within the Pharmacopoeia limit. All formulation batches reported satisfactory floating lag time in a range of 125 – 500 sec and remained buoyant for more than 6 h. Kinetics of dissolution data demonstrated that formulation batch FB4, FB9 and FB10 follow Korsmeyer-Peppas model, FB11 follows first-order kinetics; and FB1, FB2, FB3, FB5, FB6, FB7, FB8, FB12 and FB13 follows Higuchi Matrix model. Analysis of the data revealed that formulation batch...
