Introduction: Ramadan is a lunar month in the Islamic calendar. During this month, individuals who desire to keep a strict fast from dawn to sunset prevent stop eating and drinking. We evaluated the dietary intakes of patients with fatty liver during this month. Material and Methods: Sixty eligible overweight and obese women with fatty liver diagnosed via ultrasonography who had referred to the maternal and child obesity research center were included in this prospective study. Demographic, nutritional, clinical and laboratory data for each patient were extracted and analyzed. Dietary intake was evaluated by a 24 h dietary recall questionnaire and specific validated food frequency questionnaire. Results: The mean age in this population group was 41.4 ± 7.79 years, mean participant weight was 78.90 ± 12.33 kg, and mean BMI was 32.08 ± 4.62. Mean daily energy, carbohydrate, protein, and fat intake, and mean daily intake from different food groups were evaluated and extracted as mean ± SD. Mean daily energy intakes during Ramadan and mean requirement were 2527.41 ±...

Life span of human, a gradually increase can occur with change in diet and life style which play an important role in delay or even block the progression of age related degenerative problems like dementia, alzheimer’s disease. Exposure to various stress is the emerging greatest challenge to the society recent years. The ill-effect of stress is release of oxidants which is found to be always associated with cognitive decline. The natural plants like Acorus Calamus Linn. (ACL) has been proved to have antioxidant effect and ameliorating behavioral deficits caused due to neurodegenerative by exposure to stress. To investigate the behavioural activity and the biochemical effect of ethanolic extract of Acorus Calamus Linn. (EE-ACL) and the active principle α-asarone (AA) in restraint induced stressed rats. Adult male Wistar rats were divided into five groups six in each. Group I treated with 0.5% of DMSO 1 mL/kg/p.o, Group II treated with 0.5% of DMSO 1 mL/kg/p.o + restraint stress 6 h for 21 days, Group III treated with EE-ACL 100 mg/kg/p.o...

To avoid problems of conventional therapy of drug delivery and reduced dose, sustained release matrix tablet of Bosentan was prepared using lipid base material as matrices. Primary screening of polymer was done by selecting different lipid base materials like Compritol 888 ATO, Precirol ATO 5, Eudragit RSPO, Glycerly monostearate (GMS) and cetosteryl alcohol. All the batches were prepared by direct compression method. Theoretical drug release profile was carried out for dose calculation up to 24 h. All the batches were evaluated for hardness, weight variation, thickness and friability (physicochemical parameters). In-vitro drug release and FTIR study was carried out along with experimental design. From the drug release profile it was observed that Compritol 888 ATO (F1) shows batter retardant effect and Precirol ATO 5 (F2) shows effective burst release. But remaining formulations (F3-F5) were not able to release the drug as per theoretical drug release profile. After selecting lipid matrices it was optimized by 32 full factorial design by applying analysis of variance (ANOVA). Concentration of Compritol 888 ATO...

Biopolymers are gaining more importance in our day-to-day life, due to the hazardous effect of synthetic plastics in our environment. Curdlan is one of the biopolymers, which has a broad field of applications in the food, pharmaceutical and medical industries. It is a polymer of glucose, produced by the family members of Rhizobiaceae. Curdlan [(1→3)-β-D-glucan] production takes place under the nitrogen starvation period during the cell growth. Fifty Agrobacterium sp. were isolated from root nodules collected from different localities of Coimbatore and Palakkad and screened by Aniline Blue method for the production of curdlan. The species was confirmed as Agro-bacterium fabrum by 16S rRNA sequencing. The accession number given by GenBank is MF521602. Curdlan was produced using different carbon and nitrogen sources. The extraction was done by Sodium hydroxide: Acetic acid precipitation. 0.12 gm of crude curdlan was obtained from 1.2 gm/100 ml of biomass. The product was stored for further...

Mosquitoes are becoming a serious threat to the humans causing infectious diseases like dengue, malaria, chikungunya, yellow fever etc. They multiply in large numbers in a polluted environment and stagnant water bodies. The control measures include the use of pesticides and chemical compounds which further causes harmful effects. Thus, an alternative solution is to use a biologically active compound which has larvicidal property and is eco-friendly. Biosurfactants are such compounds. In this present study, 75 isolates obtained from petroleum contaminated soil samples were screened and one potent isolate was selected and identified. The biosurfactant was produced from Bacillus subtilis B50. The crude compound was characterized as lipopeptide. Its larvicidal activity was tested using the similar stage of mosquito larvae at different concentration of crude biosurfactant (1 – 10 mg %). The LC50 and LC100 were calculated after observing the larvae for 72 h. The obtained results showed that as the time and concentration increases the mortality also increases. The maximum number of larvae was killed at a concentration of...
