Background: Multiple logistic regression analysis of several metabolic variables between polycystic ovary syndrome and control groups revealed that zinc level was the most important variable to predict polycystic ovarian syndrome. Objective: This study was designed to illustrate the correlation between zinc and copper levels with the biochemical changes associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. Materials and Methods: Twelve women with polycystic ovary syndrome and twelve healthy and normal ovulatory women were included in this study. The serum levels of luteinizing hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, progesterone, testosterone and prolactin were analyzed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Serum zinc and copper was analyzed using atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Student (t) test was performed for comparison and Pearson’s correlation coefficients (r) were calculated to quantify the correlation between the biochemical parameters in the study. Results: Both zinc and copper levels showed no significant correlation with other biochemical markers associated with polycystic ovary syndrome. The results revealed an increase in serum zinc concentration in polycystic syndrome group, while it showed no significant difference in copper...

In the present study 10 morpholine mannich base derivatives were synthesized by three component reaction of morpholine, N-phenylacetamide and various substituted benzaldehydes. Progress of the reaction was monitored by thin layer chromatography and the compounds synthesized were characterized by ATR and 1HNMR techniques. Antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against gram positive strains Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis and gram negative strains Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli by cup plate method. Candida albicans was used for evaluation of antifungal activity. Three dilutions of the test compounds were taken and compared against ciprofloxacin and fluconazole used as standard. The test compounds were more active towards gram positive than gram negative bacteria. Considerable antifungal activity was shown by the...

Background: Cyperus rotundus Linn. is a traditional medicinal plant appearing among Indian, Chinese and Japanese natural drugs, used for the treatment of spasms stomach disorder and also used as anti-inflammatory, antimalarial, hypotensive, antipyretic, anthelmintic, hepatoprotective agent. Rhizomes of C. rotundus have been used in ancient medicine in India for fever, dysentery, pruritis, pain, vomiting and various blood disorders. Objective: To isolate active Phytochemicals from rhizomes of title Plant. Materials and Methods: Petroleum ether extract of rhizomes was chromatograph over silica gel column and eluted with different solvent systems. Characterization of isolated compounds was done on the basis of spectral studies (IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, MS). Results: Ellagic acid (I), 6-hydroxy-3, 4-dimethyl coumarin (II), 6-methoxy-7, 8-methylenedioxy coumarin (III) and quercetin (IV) were isolated. Conclusion: Rhizomes of title plant are rich source of natural compounds and these compounds have very useful medicinal activities so present work gives a direction for future investigators to get some medicinally important...

TNF-α plays pivotal role in initiation of inflammation via its interaction with TNFR1 in an O2.- induced oxidative stress dependent manner. The present study investigated whether the anti-oxidant effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Clitoria ternatea (CTE), could facilitate the anti-inflammatory effect of TNFR1 neutralization in context to carrageenan-induced acute inflammation in mice. Sub-plantar injection of λ-carrageenan (0.1% in saline) elicited profound inflammatory reactions in plantar tissue 0-12 hour (h) post carrageenan injection (p.c.i.), as evident from increased PMN infiltration (myeloperoxidase activity), local and systemic release of cytokines and chemokines, free radical generation and oxidative stress in male Swiss albino mice (20 – 22g, 3 – 4 weeks of age). The inflammatory reactions were attenuated from 6 – 12 h pci in CTE (50 mg/kg) and QG (2.5 mg/kg) pre-treated mice, and were potentiated followed by TNFR1 neutralization with anti-TNFR1 antibody (10 μg/mouse) in terms of significant decreases (p < 0.05) in PMN infiltration, pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines as well as ROS/RNS generation and oxidative stress in parallel to decreased...

Determination of the anti-diabetic drugs vildagliptin and metformin is wildly used to validate drug efficiency in diabetic patients. Here we describe a new and simple chromatographic method to analyze both drugs simultaneously in their commercial pharmaceutical dosage forms. A reverse Phase-high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) separation method was applied using an Xterra C18 column (250 mmL×4.6 mm I.D × 5µ) with acetonitrile: phosphate buffer (pH 6.0): water (65: 20:15v/v/v) as a mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. Quantification of these drugs by this method was achieved using an ultra violet detector at λ = 239 nm. The limit of detection (LOD) for vildagliptin was 0.0040 µg/ml and 0.025 µg/ml for metformin using this RP-HPLC method. A linear calibration curves were reached at a concentration range of 4-34 µg/ml and 8-54 µg/ml for vildagliptin and metformin, respectively. The developed technique was validated for concentration linearity, robustness, accuracy and precision, and results were statistically analyzed according to the International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) guidelines. The results presented in...
