Hydrocotyle sibthorpiodes is a known medicinal plant and is used for treatment against many bacterial and fungal pathogens in a conventional application form. The present study was intended to enhance the activity of H. sibthorpiodes plant extract against four bacterial species in combination with clove oil and silver nanoparticles by preparing a chitosan based nanocapsule that cause chronicity in wounds. The size of the synthesized nanocapsules was studied by Dynamic Light Scattering study (DLS) and SEM and was found to be 138.2 d.nm. However, the size of the loaded nanocapsule without AgNPs was obtained with a reduced size of 124.8 d.nm. The analysis of the result for the antibacterial study of the plant extract loaded nanocapsule with AgNPs was also found to be more than the extract alone and nanocapsules without AgNPs with an inhibition zone of 3.9 cm and 3.2 cm against both S. aureus as well as K. pneumonia respectively which was considered to be more effective than the conventional application of the plant extract for inhibiting...

This work aimed to evaluate the antidiarrheal effect of aqueous extract of steam barks of C. pentandra. Diarrhoea was induced by intragastric administration of castor oil. Intestinal transit was evaluated by using the charcoal method. The effect of the aqueous extract on muscarinics and α-adrenergic receptors was evaluated in atropine and yohimbine presence by using charcoal method. The results obtained show that the aqueous extract (400 and 800 mg/kg) inhibits the appearance of the signs of diarrhoea and increase the onset of gastric evacuation compared to the group control. In addition, yohimbine partially raises antidiarrheal effect observed with aqueous extract at dose of 800 mg/kg, whereas atropine potentiates it. These results are in favor of an antidiarrheal...

Cenchrus ciliaris L. (Poaceae) commonly known as “Dhaman grass”, is a common famine food used during drought and scarcity of food in Rajasthan. The present investigation was carried out to determine the phytochemical composition of leaf of C. ciliaris using gas chromatography – mass spectrometry technique. The mass spectrum of the compounds found in the extract was matched with the national institute of standards and technology (NIST) and Willey 8 library. This study could segregate several natural bioactive compounds from the leaf using solvents of different polarity i.e. methanol, ethyl acetate and hexane. Sixty one biologically active compounds were extracted amongst them Tetacontane is present in maximum amount (30.09%) with RT = 25.302 min in the hexane leaf extract. Hence the present study helps to predict the formula, structure and activity of phytoconstituents from the leaf of C. ciliaris that can be used for drug design and justifying the use of this plant to treat many ailments as herbal...

In this work, an attempt was made to synthesize new chalcones by Claisen – Schmidt condensation of substituted benzaldehydes with 4-aminoacetanilide in the presence of base catalyst. The synthesized chalcone derivatives was characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, and 13C-NMR and also tested for their antimicrobial activity and compared with the standard...

Introduction: Thirst and dry mouth are some of the most commonly observed symptoms in patients undergoing hemodialysis which can affect the quality of life of these patients. Finding uncomplicated, non-prescriptive solutions to reduce the dry mouth and irritation of these patients seems quite crucial. Since chewing sugar free gum is likely to alleviate these complications through increasing the flow of saliva, the present study was conducted to investigate the impact of sugar free gum on the thirst and dry mouth of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Materials and method: The present quasi-experimental study was performed on 50 patients undergoing hemodialysis who met inclusion criteria. Patients were randomly divided into two groups of sugar free gum chewing and control; the thirst and dry mouth of the patients were evaluated by means of a dialysis thirst quotient instrument (DTI, dry mouth measurement tools (XI), VAS). Patients of intervention group were told to chew sugar free gum for one week when they felt thirsty; however, the control group did not receive any intervention. The...
