Stress is one of the most significant health problem in modern society. This paves way for the researchers to focus and investigate into the biological pathways linking stress and health. Hence the goal of the present study is to discover novel drug derivatives from the active principle α asarone of the plant Acorus calamus Linn. (ACL) which was found to have antioxidant &antidepressor effect the basic physiological response to stress is through activation of Corticotrophin –releasing factor Receptor 1 (CRFR-1) which is predominantly found in pituitary gland is mainly responsible for signalling the adrenal gland receptor thereby increasing the Glucocorticoids as a response to stress. The 3D structure of CRFR 1 was derived from RCSB-PDB database and the α asarone was derive from Pubchem database. A total of 100 ligands were derived from α asarone using in silico method by ACD chemsketch software. Rapid virtual screening of these compounds were performed in the dock in tool iGEMDOCK v2.0. Based on the binding energy a total of seven ligands were...

Indian medicinal plants and traditional knowledge have been an integral part of our lifestyle since ages and now became an important source for natural product research (NPR) and development. Due to its knowing ability and applications, this knowledge has long been used as a thriving source for discovery of new drug molecules. This study was conducted under the routine drug development program of the Institute with the aim to explore the first-hand ethnobotanical information of 4 important plants i.e. Artemisia nilagirica, Lyonia ovalifolia, Sarcococca saligna and Taraxacum officinale and to correlate their possible applications in future research and developmental activities. The reported information was collected from 86 informants (villagers and herbal practitioners) of Nainital, Almora and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand Himalaya, during 2014-2016. The popularity of individual plant species for their ethnopharmacological uses was calculated as percent citation (PC) and cross verified through other informants of studied areas as well as the literature reported for their modern therapeutic...

The appreciation of appearance is increasingly widespread in the media and involves a smile-related beauty standard. Any change in teeth compromises the appearance and may reflect on the psychological and social behaviour of the human being. Consequently, there has been technological advance in aesthetic and technical restorative materials, such as dental bleaching, as well as the development of more effective drug delivery techniques, such as micro-emulsions and liquid crystals. In this work, dispersed systems containing hydrogen peroxide were developed, characterized and evaluated for dental bleaching agents, with permeation potential in the dentinal tubules in order to optimize the bleaching process. Two pseudo-ternary diagrams were developed. Two formulations of the second diagram were selected and characterized (optical microscopy, pH, particle size, polydispersity index, zeta potential), and then, preliminary and accelerated stability study. In these formulations, the hydrogen peroxide was incorporated in concentrations 6 and 14%. The photomicrographs of the formulations revealed dark field, characteristic of the cubic phases. The product containing 6% hydrogen peroxide obtained pH values of 6.06 ±...

Surgery is one of the best options to treat cystic echinococcosis (CE, hydatid cyst). To date, surgeon used different protoscolicidal drugs to eliminate of protoscoleces during CE surgery, but most of these agents have some serious side effects. The current study aims to explore the in-vitro protoscolicidal effects of Pistacia atlantica leave extract against hydatid cyst proto-scolices. Proto-scolices were collected from livers of infected sheep and were exposed with different concentrations of P. atlantica extract (8.75 – 70 mg/ml) for 10 – 60 min. Finally, to explore the viability of proto-scolices eosin exclusion examination was applied. The major components of leave extract of P. atlantica in gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry were trans-caryophyllene (15.18%), α-amorphene (8.1%), and neoalloocimene (6.21%), respectively. The obtained results revealed that P. atlantica leave extract had remarkable proto-scolicidal effects against proto-scoleces of hydatid cysts; so that killed completely (100%) all of proto-scoleces at the dose of 70 mg/ml after 10 min of treatment. Also, P. atlantica leave extract at the concentration of 35 mg/ml was eliminated...

The present study is based on the evaluation of preliminary phytochemical screening, antitumor, cytotoxic and antioxidant activities of leaf oil of Wrightia tinctoria (Oil B). The oil B from Wrightia tinctoria leaves was subjected to phytochemical screening tests by using standard procedures. The free radical scavenging activity of both the extracts was measured by using the 1, 1- diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. The dose dependent increase was observed in DPPH activity of leaf oil B (0.125, 0.25, 0.50, 1 μg/ml). Oil B was investigated for its short term cytotoxicity on DLA cells by tryphan blue dye exclusion method. In vivo antitumor activity was studied on DLA tumor bearing mice. Activity was assessed by monitoring the mean survival time and solid tumor volume. Wrightia tinctoria leaf oil was proved to be an effective anticancer and antioxidant agent. These results suggest that the oil B has potential of antioxidant and antitumor activity that support the ethno pharmacological uses of this plant. The remarkable activity showed by the plant could be attributed to...
