The aim of the present investigation was to prepare and evaluate novel bioadhesive vaginal microspheres containing Terbinafine (TBH) in order to provide long-term therapeutic activity at the site of infection and prove the same using in vitro anti fungal activity of the same using Candida albicans. Microspheres were prepared by the Solvent extraction technique using sodium hyaluronate and Arlacel A. Microspheres were characterized by SEM, DSC, FTIR, particle size analysis and evaluated for percentage yield, drug loading, encapsulation efficiency and in vitro drug release. FTIR and DSC studies showed that no chemical changes or alterations occurred in the drug and polymers. The sphericity factor indicated that the prepared microspheres were spherical. Formulation (TBHMs) indicated a controlled in vitro drug release and good bioadhesive strength. The in vitro anti fungal activity confirmed for a controlled and prolonged capacity of the prepared novel formulation. The results indicated that this drug delivery system can be explored for controlled intra-vaginal drug...

Arsenic is a well known pulmonary irritant and has been found associated with lung cancer in smelter workers exposed to arsenic via inhalation. The recent findings suggest the involvement of reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated during arsenic metabolism in inducing arsenic toxicity. Thus present work was designed to establish a correlation between arsenic induced oxidative stress, histopathological alterations and genotoxicity in pulmonary tissue of balb/c mice and assessing the therapeutic efficacy of Ocimum sanctum (200mg/kg b.wt., orally) against arsenic (1.57 mg/kg b.wt., 1/10th of LD50) intoxicated mice. Sub-chronic arsenic exposure elicited significant elevation in lipid peroxidation, reduction in glutathione and antioxidant enzyme levels in lungs of mice. Histopathological observations revealed degeneration of bronchiolar epithelium, enhanced number of alveolar macrophage, reduction in alveolar space and alveolar hyperplasia, where as fragmented genomic DNA from the pulmonary tissue indicated oxidative stress mediated genotoxicity. Ocimum treatment abated the oxidative stress by commuting the antioxidants imbalance, thereby reducing as induced histological changes and genotoxicity. Thus, present study established the preventive efficacy of Ocimum sanctum...

A series of six new, mixed transition metal and alkaline earth metal complexes of the general formulation [MM/(C4H4O6)2.xH2O] (where M= Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn, M/ = Ca ) are synthesized by using bidentate tartarate ligand and are characterized by different analytical techniques such as elemental analysis, TGA, FTIR, XRD, SEM, magnetic susceptibility study, UV-visible spectroscopy etc. All synthesized mixed metal complexes (sample A1 to A6) were then tested for in vitro anti-biofilm activity against some fresh bacterial cultures namely of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC-27853, E.coli ATCC-25922, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC-25923, Klebsiella pneumoniae (Lab culture), Proteus vulgaris (Lab culture). The Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of these complexes was found slightly more than Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). It is found that the Biofilm Inhibition Concentration (BIC) levels of all the complexes are at higher side as compared to MIC but lower to MBC. The bio assays of all the complexes show a greater biofilm inhibition effect, than the individual tartarate ligand which indicates after the coordination the anti-biofilm activity of...

Ursolic acid is a pentacyclic triterpinoid compound, the major constituents of the Tulsi leaves, has been suggested to possess anti-fertility effect in rats of both sexes. This study has attempted to investigate the anti-fertility potentials of Ocimum sanctum leaf extract and ursolic acid in male albino rats. Three groups of male albino rats were taken, first group as control, second group were administered with Ocimum sanctum leaf extract and third group with ursolic acid. The administrations of OS and UA bring the alterations in carbohydrate metabolizing enzymes and lipid composition which leads to changes in functional quality of spermatozoa. The reduced lipid in seminal vesicle and prostate represents the lowered lipid metabolism and lipogenesis, suggesting some alterations in the chemical composition of the seminal plasma and prostatic fluids. The elevated glucose levels in testes and epidydimis due to the decreased uptake by the spermatogenic cells in OS and UA administered rats. The administrations may mediate the up regulation of the G6PDH with increased production of ribose-5-phosphate which enhances DNA...

Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus. Acute HCV infection is usually asymptomatic and is only very rarely associated with life threatening disease. About 15-45% of infected persons spontaneously clear the virus within 6 months of infection without any treatment, whereas remaining 55-85 % were develop chronic HCV infection and risk of cirrhosis occur. A prospective, observational study will be conducted in patients attending inpatient and outpatient department at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot, Punjab. The proposed study will find out the percentage of patient eligibility for antiviral therapy according to child pugh score in hepatitis “c” virus (HCV) positive patients. The study will help to find out the percentage of the patient eligible for the antiviral therapy according to the child pugh score and to determine the affordability of antiviral therapy because many of these drugs have frequent side effects and a high cost, so that usually only a proportion of patients is eligible for treatment. Hence this study determine...
