Introduction: The warfarin management programs include mainly routine INR measurement, dosing protocols, clinical management protocols for excessive anticoagulation, and patient education. There have been numerous investigations to explore the most appropriate model for outpatients, accordingly different Anticoagulation Management Programs have been emerged in practice. Aims and objectives: This study is an attempt to develop concise warfarin protocol that expands role for the community pharmacist in Iraq. Patients and methods: A prospective case-controlled carried out on patients discharged from the hospital on warfarin therapy in combination to their prescribed medications. The follow up was achieved by four visits starting from 8-10 days after hospital discharge until 90 days. patients who were allocated into Intervention group received designed warfarin management program , and control group on ‘usual care’ monitoring. Results: The percentage of patients with international normalized ratio (INR) levels is within therapeutic/target range in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group (66.67% vs. 34.78%) after 90 days of monitoring program (p˂0.05). During 90 days of...

The main objective of the work was to extract the active ingredient in Cymbopogon citratus leave and to formulate a mosquito repellent cream naturally obtained from medicinal plants instead of commonly available synthetic repellents and insecticides such as N-Diethyl-3methylbenzamide (DEET), which are carcinogenic and non eco-friendly. The formulation of cream have smooth texture with a pH 7.30 which is non-irritant and suitable for the skin. The efficacy of the extract of Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) was investigated on mosquito in this research using different concentrations of the oil extract. The sample (cream) with the highest concentration of the active ingredient extracted was found to be most effective in repelling mosquitoes. Ethanol and Hexane were used to extract the essential oil and Gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometer (GC-MS) was used to analyse the constituents in the extracted active oil. The most abundant constituents observed in the hexane extract are cyclotetracosane (4.05%) and naphthalene (5.03%). Hexane proved to be a better solvent by giving a percentage yield of 7.8% of essential oil while...

Phosphodiesterase PDE10A is an enzyme that has established connection earlier with schizophrenic condition, schizophrenia is well known severely chronic and disabling disease worldwide today. Unfortunately, there is no concrete evidence till day to point out as a single cause of this disease. However, in a recent work a research team of Merck Research Group recognized earlier pyp-1 as an effective drug like lead(DLL) after a long term “in vitro” experimentations, to inhibit phosphodiesterase PDE10A to control the schizophrenic conditions. Herein we carry forward this work to “in silico” way to find similar/more efficient molecules in “ZINC” DL (Drug Like) molecular structure bank (zincdocking.org) in consideration with pyp-1 as a standard molecular structure for our work, docking has been performed with separated DL (Drug Like) molecular structures as similar to “pyp-1”, using similarity measures “tanimoto” binding efficacy and drug properties are computed out and analyzed, the outcomes of that work has been reported. The ZINC06025953 molecular structure pointed out that it may acts as a potential drug like lead(DLL), it...

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of Glycosmis pentaphylla (GP) leaf powder against sodium arsenite (NaAsO2) induced toxicosis in adult albino rats. Forty eight albino rats having body weight 150-200 gm of either sex were randomly divided (equally) into four groups viz., I0, I1, I2, I3. Sodium arsenite was administered at 4mg/kg body weight daily in drinking water for 90 days to all rats of groups I1, I2 and I3. The rats of group I2 and I3 were orally treated with leaf powder of G. pentaphylla at 500mg/kg and 250mg/kg (1/10th of and 1/20th of LD50) daily from 91st day to 120th day. Distilled water was given to rats of I0 for 120 days and rats of I1 for 91st day to 120th day. Blood samples were collected at different days for analysis of haemogram, biochemical parameters like ALT, AST, BUN and CRT. Tissue samples were collected to study activity of SOD, MDA, GSH, catalase and histopathology was conducted after completion of experiment. The results reveal...

Aristolochia longa L. (Aristolochiacea) is a native plant of Algeria used in traditional medicine. This study was devoted to the determination of polyphenols, flavonoids, and tannins contents of A. longa L. extracts. Extracts were prepared from aerial parts (stems and leaves), fruits and tubers by using various solvents with different polarities such as acetone, methanol and distilled water. Acetone extracts from the aerial parts presented the highest contents of polyphenols (525.43±29.6 µg/mg) followed by fruit aqueous extract (518.54±14.93 µg/mg), while the aerial parts methanol extract shown the highest flavonoid content (52.37±0.94 µg/mg) and exhibited the highest antioxidant capacity of DPPH and reducing power (55.04 ±1.29 µg/mL and 0.2±0.019 mg/mL, respectively), therefore the aerial parts acetone extract showed the highest antioxidant capacity in the β-carotene bleaching inhibition test with 57%. For antimicrobial activity, the fruit methanol extract was too efficient against the bacterial strains tested, whereas no effect was observed when these extracts were tested against fungi. The protein denaturation was found in the aerial parts acetone extract to be...
