This study was designed to determine the extent of photolytic degradation of diazepam tablets, without light-protective packaging, available in the market. The UV spectroscopy method was designed and applied for this purpose. A total of 2160 tablets (each tablet contained 5 mg diazepam) of three different brand formulations A, B and C were chosen randomly. These tablets were then exposed to different indirect and direct lighting conditions i.e. normal room light condition (for 60 days), direct sunlight exposure (6 hours per day for 3 days), 25 Watt incandescent light bulb exposure and 40 Watt incandescent light bulb exposure (6 hours per day for 3 days). Samples from these light exposures were analyzed for potency determination using UV spectrophotometer and compared against the tablets kept in dark place (Control). Tablets of all three formulations showed marked degradation. The overall average degradations were 23.64%±5.53%; 28.36%±4.87%; 19.72%±4.83% and 25.40%±4.17% respectively for normal room light, direct sunlight, 25 Watt and 40 Watt incandescent bulbs whereas tablets kept in dark place showed little or...

A simple, rapid, sensitive, and accurate high performance liquid chromatography was developed for determination of Idelalisib (IL) in rabbit plasma using Ibrutinib as internal standard (IS). Idelalisib is a phosphoinositide 3-kinase inhibitor indicated in the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), relapsed follicular B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (FL), and relapsed small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL). The analytes and IS were separated on a ODS (250 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 µm) column using Mobile phase composition as Buffer and Acetonitrile in the ratio of 85:15 v/v%. The total chromatographic runtime is 10.0 min with retention time for IL and IS at 7.195, and 5.435 min, respectively with a flow rate 1ml/min. The method is validated over a dynamic linear range of 0.02-4 µg/mL for IL with a correlation coefficient of r2 0.999. The method was validated as per the USFDA guidelines and the results were within the acceptance criteria for selectivity, sensitivity, linearity, precision, accuracy, recovery stability of solution and stability of solution in...

Phoenix sylvestris Roxb, commonly known as date sugar palm or wild date palm, grows naturally in the tropics and subtropics of the Indian subcontinent. The present study was aimed for phytochemical evaluation and to develop the high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) fingerprint profile of methanolic extract of P. sylvestris at two ripening stages. The powdered plant material was extracted using methanol. Quantitative analysis of phytochemicals and HPTLC fingerprinting analysis were carried out. The quantitative analysis of the phytochemicals revealed the presence of various amounts of total phenolic, total flavonoids and total tannins. These phytochemicals were significantly higher in the unripened stage than ripened stage. The HPTLC fingerprinting analysis was carried for phenolic compounds by using Camag Linomat 5 instrument which revealed the presence of phenolic compounds in two stages of P. sylvestris. HPTLC data revealed that unripened extract has high quality phytochemicals than ripened extract. The phytochemical changes of P. sylvestris fruit ripening clearly explained its growth, development and ripening...

The aim of the present study was to investigate the production of laccase by Marasmius sp. BBKAV79 in Solid State Fermentation (SSF) and its antiproliferative activity. Experiments were also conducted to determine the variables that could affect activity of laccase. In particular, the effects of the initial moisture content, pH, temperature, and inoculum volume, incubation period in addition to carbon and nitrogen sources were evaluated. Rice bran was found to be the best supported lignocellulosic substrate for extracellular laccase production under SSF. Highest activity of laccase was achieved at pH 6.0 and temperature at 40°C. Inoculum size and incubation period for laccase production at 2000µl culture broth and 10 days respectively. The presence of starch and ammonium sulphate in the growth medium was found to be favourable for the production of the laccase. Such a high activity was obtained without any addition of inducers. Thus, the indigenous isolate is found to be a potential producer of laccase using SSF and can be exploited for further biotechnological applications. The process...

Introduction and Objectives: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic, progressive, and irreversible disease of the oral mucosa. Though numerous modalities have been tried but all are palliative and have no curative value. Pentoxifylline possessing vasorelaxive and antifibrotic properties believed to potentiate the anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and immune modulating properties of garlic. So, the present preliminary clinical trial was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of Garlic in conjunction with pentoxifylline in the management of OSMF. Methods: The study consisted of 15 OSMF patients. Pentoxifylline (400 mg) was administered thrice daily along with garlic pearls, 2 pearls; thrice daily. Drugs were administered systemically after food for a duration of 3 months. Patients were evaluated every 15 days for the assessment of clinical parameters, i.e. burning sensation, reduction in mouth opening, tongue protrusion and cheek flexibility. Pre and post treatment SOD level were measured and compared. The improvement was assessed at the end of the study. Results: All the patients were males with the mean age of 26.04 years. Patients exhibited a...
