Flouroquinolones (FQ) used commonly for treatment of community and hospital-acquired infections, has been prefixed with multiple adverse effects. Amongst them the glycemic variability has been attention seeking. Drug induced dysglycemia can be acute or persistent and severe too. The present study is designed to evaluate and compare the actions of Levofloxacin vs. Norfloxacin in altering blood glucose levels in Alloxan induced diabetic albino rats. 30 albino rats with fasting blood sugar (FBS) in the range of 80-115 mg/dl were induced diabetes with intraperitoneal Alloxan (150mg/kg body wt). After 7 days of induction, the rats that developed a stable hyperglycemia with FBS≥250 mg/dl were selected for the study. Following administration of test and standard drug FBS levels were measured on days 0, 3, 7, 14 & 28 using glucometer. Statistically, values in all the groups were analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by independent T test for group comparisons. Background-In September 2012, the world health organization reported a global prevalence of diabetes exceeding 300 million people, predicting a further 60-70% increase by the year 2030, which means India alone will have 100 million people by year 2030. Wound healing is problematic in diabetic patients. Encouraging results have shown that PDGF application is better than good wound care alone. But the evidence to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of PDGF in Diabetic ulcer is scanty. Aim-To Study the Efficacy of Platelet Derived Growth Factor in Diabetic Lower Extremity Ulcer. Methods-This study was a prospective, double blind, and placebo controlled study. A total of 29 patients with 35 ulcers were included and divided in case and control group. The study medication was administered in conjunction with standardized good wound care for 24 weeks or until target ulcer healed. Introduction: Blood is the only oxygen transporter in the body and is crucial in saving lives. Research has failed to find a true substitute for blood and blood components The attitude, beliefs, and level of knowledge associated with blood donation will determine whether potential donors will donate blood or not. Methodology: A descriptive epidemiological study with cross sectional study design was conducted among blood donors attending the blood bank of SSKM Hospital. Result: It was found 67.08% of the donors had a knowledge score of less than 5. It was found that donors from urban areas, higher educational and socio-economic status as well as those who had previous history of blood donation had higher knowledge scores. This was statistically significant (p<0.05). Mass media like television and radio had an insignificant role in creating awareness as only 5% and 2% of the donors were made aware through these respectively.
