The plant Maytenus emarginata belongs to the Family Celastraceae also known as Kankhera in Hindi have used effectively for the treatment of wide range of disorder as digestive ailments, nerve afflictions, Heart ailments, inflammation, nervous system, Rashes and as a tonic and anti stress. The present investigation is planned to evaluate safety and reversible contraceptive efficacy of aqueous methanolic extracts of Maytenus emarginata leaves to develop a orally effective and reversible male contraceptive. Animal were orally administrated with extract of Maytenus emarginata leaf at the dose of 50,100,200 mg/kg/ body wt/day per oral dose for 60 days. A marked dose dependent decrease in the count and motility of the sperms of treated rats was observed compared with control. Furthermore, pregnancy rate in females markedly reduced by 80% after the mating with male treated with 50,100,200 mg/kg Maytenus emarginata leaf extract. At the same time significant decrease were detected in seminal vesicles and testicular weight of rats that...

The brachial plexus block(BPB) has gained importance as regional anaesthetic technique for upper limb surgery. The primary aim of our study was to evaluate the addition of intravenous dexmedetomidine before BPB on overall patient satisfaction and sucess with objective of comparing the onset and duration of block, haemodynamic stability and sedation score. A randomized double blind prospective study was carried out on seventy patients of ASA grade I to III of either sex aged between 18 – 65 years scheduled for upper limb orthopaedic surgeries under BPB Who were randomly allocated into two groups: Group D (Dexmedetomedine) received Inj dexmedetomidine 1 µg/kg in intravenous 100 ml saline and Group P (Placebo) received intravenous 100 ml saline started 10 min before block. Onset and duration of block, quality of block, Haemodynamic variables, time to first rescue analgesics in post-op period, Sedation score, VAS score and Incidence of side effects and complications were recorded. Statistical analysis was done using Graph pad software. Hemodynamic variables, sedation score and satisfaction scores were analyzed...

Background: The Mimosa pudica, is well known across the world for its different pharmacological activities such as anti diabetic, antitoxin, antioxidant and wound healing activities. In the present study we investigated the hypolipidemic effects of ethanolic extract of leaves of Mimosa pudica linn against dyslipidemia following carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatic injury in albino rats. Methods: Liver damage was induced in rats by treating them with CCl4 (1ml/kg /bw), administered subcutaneously, on alternate days for one week. Several biochemical parameters like triglyceride (TG),total cholesterol (TC), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipoprotein (HDL) were taken into consideration to assess dyslipidemic changes .The effects of ethanolic extract of Mimosa pudica (at a dose of 400mg/kg) was observed on the following parameters. In addition to biochemical parameters liver weight and histological sections were also studied. The statistical analysis of data was done by using one way ANOVA followed by Dunnet’s t test. Results: Administration of ethanolic extract of Mimosa pudica significantly prevented carbon tetrachloride induced elevation of...

Liver toxicity faces a major challenge in world health issues. Many drugs are being withdrawn from the market by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for causing drug induced hepatotoxicity. In the present study, ameliorative activity of methanoic extracts of different parts (Peel, Pulp and seed) of exotic fruits and vegetables on carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced hepatotoxicity were studied in in vitro condition. Chicken liver cell suspension treated with CCl4 was used for lipid peroxidation (LPO), free radical scavenging and sodium dismutase (SOD) assay. Extracts from different parts of exotic fruits and common vegetables showed potent antioxidant effect. In the present study even, methanoic extract of some unused parts (peel & seed) of vegetables and fruits showed hepatoprotective action, but among all these bottle gourd pulp (vegetable) and passion fruit pulp (exotic fruit) showed the noteworthy hepatoprotective action. Thus it is concluded that, the methanoic extracts of exotic fruits and vegetables was observed to have notable protective activity on CCl4 induced...

Aims and Objectives: To evaluate the use and the impact of interventions on the use of antimicrobial agents (AMAs) at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Urban Health Centres (UHCs) in Ahmedabad district. Materials and methods: This was an interventional and prospective study carried out at 5 PHCs and 5 UHCs of ahmedabad district. In pre-intervention phase, 30 adult patients from each centre who were prescribed AMAs were included. Educational interventions were done for the prescribers by giving them booklet and by PowerPoint presentation about the use of AMAs for common diseases observed in the pre-intervention phase. In post-intervention phase, similar to pre-intervention phase, 30 adult patients from each centre i.e. 5 PHCs and 5 UHCs who were prescribed AMA were included. The impact of intervention and appropriateness of AMA use was measured using Modified Kunin’s Criteria. Results: Amongst a total of 300 patients, i.e. 150 each from PHCs and UHCs, the most commonly AMAs used were metronidazole and doxycycline respectively in pre-intervention phase. According to modified Kunin’s criteria, appropriate...
