The present work aims to examine the antimicrobial activity of three medicinal plant extracts grown in Saudi Arabia namely Pulicaria crispa, Achillea fragrantissima and Cleome Africana against 10 clinical isolates of multi-drug resistant bacteria (MDR) that belong to four species, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii and Klebsiella pneumonia. The antibacterial potential of the methanolic plant extracts was assessed by the agar well diffusion method and expressed in terms of diameters of inhibition zone. The outcomes of these experiments indicated that each extract has shown an activity against four resistant isolates at least, with maximum zone of inhibition 19 mm recorded by P. crispa extract against S.aureusstrain (1). As a new finding, it was observed that C. Africana extract has bioactivity as antibacterial agent against maximum number of resistant isolates (seven out of ten tested strains) including all tested isolates of S.aureus (ranged between 7 and 14 mm). Methanolic extract of A. fragrantissima demonstrated two considerable growth inhibition against one isolate of both S.aureus and Ps. aeruginosa. The chemical...

The current study aimed to test the effect of the aqueous extract of Boswellia dalzeilii and Pseudecedrela kotschyi using three different mixing ratios (B. dalzeilii:P. kotschyi) 3:1, 2:2, and 1:3. The assays concerned the study of the interactions in the modulation of phagocytic index, nitric oxide production, lysosomal enzymes and myeloperoxydase activity in macrophages and regulation of lymphocytes proliferation. The study results showed that the extracts of these plants exhibited antagonistic effects in the phagocytic index and production of NO while they produced synergetic effects in the stimulation of MPO-dependent activity and lymphocytes proliferation. Antagonistic effects were produced in the ratios 3:1 and 2:2 and synergetic properties in the ratios 1:3 for the stimulation of the activities of the lysosomal enzymes. These results look quite interesting and important and merit further investigations to support the present...

Atorvastatin calcium (ATC) is very slightly soluble in water and it is classified under BCS class II drugs. A widely used method to enhance the solubility of drugs is co-crystallization. In this work, we screened six co-formers for ATC by employing molecular docking method. The work was continued by co-crystallization process using slurry method, solubility assay of the mixtures using HPLC, and characterization of the co-crystal by PXRD, DSC and SEM. Based on molecular docking, the best co-former is aspartame (Ei = -4.70 kcal/mol). The docking result fits the solubility assay of the ATC-aspartame co-crystal (136.77% increasing of solubility compared to ATC). ATC-aspartame co-crystal shows better dissolution profile (91.62 % in 60 minutes) than ATC (73.54 % in 60 minutes). The characteristic peaks of ATC and aspartame were gone, whilst new peaks appeared after slurry process. The ATC-aspartame characterization by PXRD, DSC and SEM positively confirmed that the co-crystallization of ATC-aspartame using slurry method was...

The present study was carried out to detect the phytoconstituents present in the bulbous part of Eleutherine bulbosa using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The mass spectrum of the crude ethyl acetate extract was compared with the available library sources (NIST08LIB, WILEY 8 and FAME). A total of 24 compounds were identified. Most of the major constituents were phenolic in nature. A phenolic compound detected to be present in highest concentration (34.20%) was, 1, 8-Naphthalenediol, 2, 7-diacetyl-3, 6-dimethyl. Carboxylic and sterol compounds were present in minute...

Losartan potassium in tablet dosage form, separation achieved with C 18 column (Kromasil 100-5C18250mm x4.6mm E82860 i.d., 5µm particle), ambient temperature with isocratic mode with mobile phase containing 40:60 Acetonitrile: Buffer consist of 10.5mM of disodium hydrogen phosphate and 10mM potassium dihydrogen phosphate, pH 3.5 adjusted by 10 % Orthophosphoric acid and at flow rate 1.0ml/minute the eluent was monitored at 250nm. The selected chromatographic conditions were found to be effectively separate Losartan potassium 9.98min. The proposed method was found to be linear over the range of 6.4-9.6µg/ml. The drug was subjected to oxidation, acid, alkaline, photolysis and heat stress conditions for degradation. The method was validated for specificity, linearity, accuracy, robustness and solution...
