Cordia obliqua Willd var. obliqua. is a medium sized, broad leaved deciduous tree. It is found growing not only all over Asia but nearly the whole of the globe. Cordia obliqua (F. Boraginaceae) is traditionally used against fever, chest disease, leprosy, gonorrhoea and helminthes. Bark is bitter, mild astringent and tonic and used in general debility and convalescence. Decoction of the bark is used as a gargle in sore mouth. Juice obtained from the bark relieves severe colicky pains. Bark is anthelmintic, constipating, cooling, depurative and used in vitiated conditions of kapha, pitta and leprosy. In view of its medicinal importance, a complete study on macroscopic, microscopic characters and analytical parameters of stem bark have been made and presented. Histological studies were conducted by infiltration method. Anatomical features of the bark were studied using transectional, radial and tangential longitudinal sections. Background: Plants are enriched with various types of phytoconstituents present in the form of secondary metabolites that ensure its medicinal value. Keeping this in view, the present investigation was carried out focusing on its antioxidant property that may mainstay of exploring other therapeutic potency. Hence, phytochemical investigation followed with antioxidant property was evaluated in the leaf extracts of the selected plant Canthium coromandelicum (Burm.f.) Alston, collected from eastern coastal belt of south Odisha. Objective: To carry out the phytochemical studies of various leaf extracts and fractions of Canthium coromandelicum (Burm.f.) Alston. In vitro antioxidant activities were also estimated to justify the leaves being used in traditional medicine as an antioxidant. A novel approach was tested utilizing mucoadhesive in-situ gelling (ISG) Gellan Gum /HPMC solutions containing dispersions of methazolamide (MZA) loaded Spanlastic Vesicular systems (SVs). The tested systems were designed to combine high corneal permeability of SVs as well as ease of application and prolonged eye retention of ISGs. SVs consisted of Span 60 mixed with different ratios of edge activators (EA) (Tween 60, Tween 80, Brij 35 and Brij 58) were initially prepared and examined to select formulae that had small vesicle size and high drug entrapment. The evaluation of SVs systems included measurement of particle sizes, entrapment efficiencies (EE %) and relative deformability. SVs in ISG systems were characterized by in vitro release, viscosity, intraocular pressure (IOP) measurement after their administration to rabbit eyes and histopathological examination. Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra (Pfizer), is a prescription medicine used for erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil were isolated and purified during the analysis of some herbal products marketed for treatment of erectile dysfunction. There is no standardization technique for herbal formulations hence the addition of adulterants in herbal is very difficult to get hold of. Most of the adulterants added are to enhance the efficiency of the preparation. Not only sildenafil but various other drugs such as Tedanafil, Verdinafil and their analogues were used in the formulations. We have extracted sildenafil by using double extraction in which methanol: water (50:50) was used as an extractant along with process of sonication which was then further detected using UV visible spectroscopy. The plants and their materials have been utilized for treatment of various diseases in human and animals which are rich source of antioxidants due to presence of phytonutrients such as vitamins (alpha- tocopherol, Ascorbate, carotenoid) or minerals (zinc, selenium) and flavanoid, polyphenols and flavoproteins which exert their action through scavenging free radicals in vivo system. Hence search for new natural antioxidant is required. Aim of the present study was to determine the antioxidant activity of extracts of different plant materials qualitatively and quantitatively, by in vitro tests. Aqueous and ethanolic extracts were prepared from eight different plant material viz., Phyllanthus emblica (fruit), Tectona grandis (leaves), Solanum nigrum (leaves), Momordica charantia (fruit), Ficus bengalensis (leaves), Asparagus racemosus (roots), Swertia chirata (leaves), Curcuma longa (leaves).
