Natural Herbal components like seeds mucilages, exudates, gums, polysaccharides, celluloses, hemicelluloses, starch, etc. are now a day’s exploited as excipients. Literature reveals medicinal, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical uses of fenugreek seed hemicelluloses in dosage form design. Hemicelluloses like galactomannans are water-soluble polysaccharides highly susceptible to hydrolysis either by acidic conditions or by uncontrolled hydrothermal processes. Chances of breakdown of intact polymeric polysaccharides chains into oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharide, etc. increases. Conversion into basic sugar units may also take place leading to changes in the polymeric behavior of the intact structures. So, in the present research percentage hemicellulose recovery is determined by invasive, indirect method in terms of basic glucose units. FTIR-SEM-DSC analysis was found to be useful characterization tools to interpret and support the recovery details of the hemicellulose isolates. Finally, it is concluded that the method of isolation of any natural component either hemicellulose, cellulose, etc. targeted to be utilized as excipient entity in dosage form design should be strictly optimized because there are numerous factors in processing which may...

Chemical, physical, and biological methods have been developed to synthesis nanoparticles but chemical and physical methods are involved in the production of toxic by-products which are hazardous moreover the methods are very expensive. To synthesis stable metal nanoparticles with controlled size and shape, there have been searched for inexpensive, safe, and reliable and “green” approach. The present study reports an environmentally friendly, low cost, novel and rapid method for synthesis of silver nanoparticles. We have developed a green synthetic method for silver nanoparticles using Cassia tora leaf extract which acts as a reducing & capping agent. It was observed that use of Cassia tora leaf extract makes rapid and convenient method for synthesis of silver nanoparticles and can reduce silver ions into silver nanoparticles within few seconds of reaction time. UV-Vis spectrometer uses to monitor the reduction of Ag ions and formation of AgNPs in medium. The morphological studies of the biosynthesized nanoparticles are done using UV-Vis, HRTEM & FESEM techniques FTIR was performed to identify the functional groups...

This study was planned to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of roots of Asparagus curillus in periodontal inflammation via assessing gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and salivary inflammatory markers namely MMP-8, -9, 13, TIMP-1 and IL-6. Samples of GCF and saliva were obtained from patients with chronic periodontitis (n = 98) and healthy controls (n = 27). Study population (n = 98) was divided into two groups – Group A: patients with periodontitis receiving only conservative periodontal treatment and Group B: patients with periodontitis receiving both the conservative periodontal treatment and Ayurvedic therapy in combination. Concentrations of periodontal inflammatory markers i.e. MMP-8, -9,-13, TIMP-1 and IL-6 were estimated by Enzyme linked immuno absorbent assay and were analysed at two different time intervals i.e. at baseline and 3 months after therapy. There was statistically significant decrease in the concentrations of MMP-8, -9, -13 in GCF and saliva in both the groups at 3 months after therapy. (p < 0.05) However, there was found a statistically significant lower concentration of the markers in...

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common infections of pregnancy and pose great therapeutic challenges. The objective of the present study was to evaluate and compare the antimicrobial treatment practices for UTIs during pregnancy in comparison with the standard treatment guidelines. A prospective cross sectional study was conducted on 782 pregnant female patients suffering from UTIs in hospitals of Wah Cantt, District Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Prescriptions and available laboratory test reports including complete blood count (CBC) from each patient was taken. Statistical tests One Way ANOVA and chi-square tests (P≤0.05) were performed to obtain the desired outcomes. It was evaluated that none of the clinical setting have developed its own antibiogram or local antibiotic use guidelines. Standard management guidelines for antimicrobial therapy for UTI in pregnancy were followed in only 16.7% patients. Moreover only two drugs from the standard management guidelines were prescribed to the patients. It was determined that statistically significant population (p<0.05) were being prescribed with the drugs not recommended by any guidelines. 26.9% patients were being...

Black pepper, the ‘King of spices’ (Piper nigrum L.), is a widely used spice, known for its pungent odour. From time immemorial, plant sources were used in traditional systems of medicine and day-to-day common use, such as in meal preparation and cosmetic purposes. This is due to their vast pharmacological potential with minimum side effects. Among the various species of the Piperaceae family, black pepper is one of the most popular due to its principle pharmacological component, piperine. Which is an alkaloid that has diverse pharmacological activities like antioxidant, anti-obesity, antitumor, antipyretic, anticonvulsant, anti-thyroid, antifungal, antibacterial, insecticidal, hepatoprotective, anti-asthmatic, larvicidal, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antidiarrheal, bio-availability enhancer, immunomodulator, antiepileptic, antifertility, GI stimulant, lipid metabolism accelerator, anticancer, CNS stimulant, diuretic, aphrodisiac, blood purifier and antiplatelet activities, etc. Due to some religious value of black pepper, its being popular from ancient time to modern generation. This review is aimed to provide a literature review on recent advancement of chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacological activities, new piperine based formulations and other general use of Piper...
