Candesartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker, used as an anti-hypertensive drug. It is available in the salt form of cilexetil i.e.; Candesartan cilexetil belongs to class II of the Biopharmaceutical classification system. It is a poorly soluble drug, and the bioavailability is 15%. The intention of the study is to improve the solubility of the poorly soluble drug, Candesartan cilexetil using the inclusion complexation technique with γ-CD as a complexing agent. Complexation is the association between two or more molecules to form a non-covalent-based complex that has a higher solubility than the drug itself. Binary mixtures of Candesartan cilexetil were prepared with three different techniques (Physical Mixture, Kneading method, Solvent evaporation method)in three different ratios (1:1, 1:2, 1:3). The prepared complexes were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. In-vitro dissolution studies were performed for all the prepared complexes by different methods in different ratios in order to define the most appropriate ratio and preparation...

The earliest anecdotes of ‘medical device’ dates back thousands of years. In 7000 BC, Neolithics used flint-tipped drills and bowstrings for dentistry. However, regulation of medical devices has only happened recently. Modern medical devices are used for the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease. This industry is one of the most dynamic, disruptive, and fastest-growing among all segments in healthcare. However, there are challenges. The transition from innovation to patient care and eventually financial success has proven to be the Achilles hill for most organizations attempting to create a niche within the industry. There has been a multitude of problems to deal with. Financial, operational, technological, and regulatory issues have been plaguing the industry for years. Thankfully, with the advent of new-age technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning, we are witnessing a paradigm shift in this space. In this review article, we delve deep into the history, evolution, and challenges in the medical devices space. We also look at the emerging technologies that are shaping the...

Mucormycosis is an opportunistic fungal infection caused by a member of the order Mucorales. It is an angio-invasive fungal infection because of its propensity to invade blood vessel walls, resulting in catastrophic tissue ischemia (restriction in blood supply to tissues, causing a shortage of oxygen that is needed for cellular metabolism), infarct (tissue death that is necrosis) due to inadequate blood supply to the affected area. Mucorales fungi are distributed worldwide and found in soil and decaying organic substrates. The most common microbiologically confirmed infecting members of the order Mucorales are Rhizopus, Mucor, Cunninghamella bertholletiae, Apophysomyces elegans, Absidia, Saksenaea and Rhizomucor pusillus. The incidence of mucormycosis has increased significantly in patients with diabetes which is the commonest underlying risk factor globally. Recently, COVID-19 caused by SARS CoV-2 has further worsened the incidence of this disease. Diagnosis of mucormycosis remains challenging. The clinical approach to diagnosis has a low sensitivity and specificity; however, it helps raise suspicion and prompt the initiation of laboratory testing. Histopathology, direct examination, and culture remain essential tools,...

Usage of medicinal plants for the treatment of various diseases had been started from 1500 BC onwards. Loss of cognition is one of the age-related mental problems and a characteristic symptom of neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s. Various natural drugs are used for treatment of Alzheimer’s and Parkinsonism, but Available drugs provide symptomatic treatment with known side effects. So the present study is aimed to evaluate anti-amnesic activities of ethanolic flower extract of Ixora coccinea on mouse model as an attempt to search for new compounds against Alzheimer’s disease-related memory impairment. Ixora coccinea is a common flowering shrub native to Southern India and Sri Lanka. Traditionally it is used as hepatoprotective, antimicrobial, anti-oxidant, anti-nociceptive, anti-mitotic and anti-inflammatory activities. Decoction of roots was used for nausea, hiccups, and anorexia. Numerous activities were reported on the entire plant and various parts of the plant like root, leaf, and flower .The anti-amnesic activity was screened by the stair case method and elevated plus maze method. The staircase method has been widely used in...

Cancer is a dreadful disease all over the world. The death rate had been increasing because of different types of cancers even though several drugs, treatment models and regimens are invented by scientists. Natural drugs have been showing remarkable results in the treatment of different cancers with less or no side effects. Advancements in screening methods using computer aided tools helping the researchers to discover new phytochemicals with prominent and specific activity against different diseases. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the anti-cancer potential of dichloromethane extract of Mitragyna parvifolia stem bark using MTT assay and molecular docking studies. MTT assay was performed on MCF7, A549 and HepG2 cell lines. IC50 values were found to be 402.8 μg/ml, 207.4μg/ml and 104.4μg/ml, respectively. The phytoconstituents of extract were determined by GC-MS GC-MS analysis, most probable structures were identified and named using NIST library. GC-MS study revealed 76 compounds in which acontanes, decenes, and decanoicacids are of maximum percentage. A molecular docking study was conducted on the selected...
