Sufoof – e -Hazim (SEH), Unani formulation with high therapeutic efficacy, has been reported to cure indigestion and flatulence. The formulation is available with different manufacturers but scientific data on its pharmacognosy is lacking. Hence, the current research work is an attempt to standardize the formulation and establish quality control parameters in terms of its phytochemical and chromatographic evaluation. SEH was prepared as per National Formulary of Unani Medicine (NFUM). As a rapid method for detection of adulteration, powder microscopy was carried out for the formulation along with its individual ingredients in order to locate persistant and discernable characters belonging to the individual ingredients from the formulation. Phytochemical evaluation was carried out along with estimation of reducing sugars and crude fibre content in the formulation. Further, a simple, rapid, accurate and sensitive HPTLC method was developed for the simultaneous estimation of pharmacologically active markers, betasitosterol and lupeol. The method was validated as per ICH guidelines for the parameters such as linearity, intra and interday precision, accuracy, recovery etc. The...

Introduction: Monitoring and assessment of the medication errors in hospitals can help in reducing the medical treatment costs and minimizing the risk of harm to the patients. This study aims to determine the frequency and types of medication errors and to assess the consequences of the errors which occurred. Materials and Methods: A prospective, cross- sectional study was conducted in the ICU and medicine wards at a tertiary care hospital, India. The in-patient’s case sheets were reviewed on a daily basis, and were evaluated to find out any suspected medication errors. Results: During the study period of 6 months, 700 prescriptions were analysed for medication errors. Among them, 300 medication errors were identified, out of which (52.33%) were prescribing errors, (41.66%) were administration errors, (4.66%) were monitoring errors and (1.33%) were dispensing errors. Incomplete prescriptions (55.41%), documentation errors (43.2%), omission errors (19.2%) and wrong time administration of medicine (13.6%) were the common types of medication errors. Of the total errors (80.33%), had the potential to cause harm, (16.33%) caused...

The aim of the study was synthesis and characterization of 2-phenyl-1-benzopyran-4-one as a potential myeloperoxidase inhibitor. The oxidative stress was related to the generation of Reactive oxygen species (ROS), which is responsible for the enhancement of several degenerative diseases, such as osteoarthritis, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc. Due to this fact, the study was targeted for the development of myeloperoxidase inhibitor for overcoming the oxidative stress. The molecular docking analysis were afforded that the titled compounds posses noteworthy potency against myeloperoxidase (PDB ID: 1DNU). The docking simulation of twenty hybrid of flavone showed the better binding score ranging between -6.66 to -8.56 kcal/mol. Based on the result, the synthesised compounds were screened for the evaluation of various in-vitro antioxidant studies. In which, the hydroxyl substituted flavones (HF1-HF8) were posses significant IC50 values compared with their respective standards due to their electron donating property over the radical responsible for oxidative stress. The docking score and in-vitro study of antioxidant activity were well correlated, which confirmed the antioxidant property of titled...

Sickle cell anaemia is a genetic blood disorder that is caused by a mutation in the gene that encoded b-globin of haemoglobin, which results as the presence of abnormal haemoglobin HbS in the RBC. Presently, there is no universal cure for sickle cell anaemia Herbomineral formulations were standardized for organoleptic properties (colour, odour and taste), physiochemical properties, total ash value, moisture content, pH of the solution, to find effective agent in which we investigated the antisickling potential of T-AYU- HM Premium, a novel Herbomineral formulation. In-vitro sickling of homozygous sickle cells upon deoxygenation (Emmel’s Test) showed dose dependent inhibition of sickling in presence. T-AYU-H and T-AYU-HM Premium (25 µg/ml, 50 µg/ml, 100 µg/ml and 500 µg/ml). Mechanistic evaluations were performed such as, t-BOOH induced oxidative haemolysis, and formation of met-haemoglobin was significantly decreased in dose dependent manner in the presence of 50 µg/ml, 100 µg/ml and 500 µg/ml of T-AYU-H and T-AYU-HM Premium. Membrane stabilization activity by osmotic fragility test showed significant dose dependent increased stabilization in the presence...

Ultraviolet radiation (UV) from sun has significant detoriating and degenerative effects on human skin and thus responsible for much skin disease. The most authentic and realistic approach to overcome this issue is to use or apply a barrier between sun rays and exposed skin surface using suitable products called sunscreens or UV protectors. Sunscreens usually include both natural and synthetic molecule and have great application in cosmaceuticals. In the present study one such natural product-rose water was evaluated for sun protecting ability of the rose water samples (SPF) using in-vitro spectroscopic method. A correlation was also established by evaluating the antioxidant activity in total 12 samples of rose water were evaluated for SPF and antioxidant activity Among all the samples the SPF value of sample #09 showed high sunscreen activity 3.956 followed by sample #08 with SPF value of 3.612. The rose water sample distilled in the lab indicated SPF value as 0.800. All the samples showed antioxidant activity (free radical scavenging ability). The phytochemical investigation indicates the presence...
