In Advances drug design technologies, a large no of drug molecules are being introduced in every year but many of these molecules have problems like their solubility, stability, bioavailability and its long lasting side effects. Low bioavailability is one of the serious but curable problems in case of the drug molecule. Low bioavailability happens because a lot of molecules unable to permeation the gastrointestinal epithelia. There are some other factors also which responsible for low bioavailability i.e. low lipophilicity and zwitterionic character at physiological pH, poor water solubility or efflux by P-glycoprotein (P-gp) etc. The object of this review is to explore the concept of bioavailability to achieve better therapeutic response in appropriate dose using natural drugs and natural products like ginger, caraway, aloe, quercetin, glycyrrhizin piperine, curcumin etc. The use of natural products is the most reliable means for bioavailability enhancement because these are safe, non-toxic, economical, easily procured, non-addictive, pharmacologically inert and non-allergenic in nature etc. This review explores the natural drugs from plant and animal sources...

Context: The leaves Morus alba have been traditionally used in Asian countries for treatment of different ailments. Objective: Present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract from Morus alba leaves supplementation on gastric tissue glutathione level in indomethacin induced ulcers in rats. Materials and Methods: Ethanol extract from Morus alba leaves were administered at the doses 200 and 400 mg/kg/day, p.o. for seven days. Ulceration was induced by giving indomethacin. Ulcer index, gastric GSH level, gastric wall mucus level was estimated. The functioning of liver was also assayed. Results: The effects of ethanol extract from Morus alba leaves were significant and comparable to reference treated group of rats. The gastric GSH levels were replenished by Morus alba leaves in 400 mg/kg. Conclusion: From this study it was concluded that ethanol extract from Morus alba leaves possess significant ulcer protection by replenishing gastric GSH and increasing gastric mucus...

The present study involves the investigation of anti-inflammatory activity for 2’, 4’ dihydroxy flavone by TPA [12- O- Techanoyl 13 – Myristate] induced inflammation in Polymorphonuclear leukocytes [PMNL]. The cell viability was assayed by Trypan blue dye exclusion assay, MTT assay, release of Cathepsin D, Nitrite and TNF-α levels. Diclofenac sodium was used as the standard drug. The selected dihydroxy flavone, 2’, 4’ dihydroxy flavone showed the significant increase in the number of viable PMNL cells and decreases the release of Cathepsin D, Nitrite and TNF-α. The present work evidenced the in-vitro anti-inflammatory effect of 2’, 4’ dihydroxy...

The pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a multiple fruit belonging to the Bromeliaceae family, has a crude extract Bromelain accumulated in the stem, fruit, peel and leaves of the pineapple which shows proteolytic activity. The present study was carried out to assess the accumulation of bromelain in the different parts of the pineapple. The techniques homogenization with sodium acetate buffer, followed by filtration and centrifugation were used to extract bromelain from pineapple. The crude bromelain was then purified by ammonium sulphate salt precipitation, dialysis and finally subjected to ion exchange chromatography. Lowry’s method and gelatine digestion unit (GDU) analytical method were performed to estimate the concentration and activity of the crude enzyme and purified bromelain from the different parts The molecular weight of the purified enzyme was determined by SDS-PAGE (sodium dodecyl sulphate – polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis) analysis and found to be 25 to 27 KDa. The final step was to find out the effect of bromelain from leaves and stem of pineapple on pathogens of periodontitis. The enzyme exhibited...
