Buddleja asiatica commonly called as butterfly bush is a tender deciduous plant. It is endemic to Asia and found in most parts of India. Traditionally it is used in the treatment of many health disorders such as inflammation, rheumatism, skin disease, malaria etc. In view of pharmacological aspect, Buddleja asiatica is screened for antihepatotoxic, antibacterial, hypotensive, anticancer, antifungal, antimalarial and antioxidant activities. More than 80 compounds including phenyl propanoids, flavonoids, Phenyl ethanoid glycosides, phenylpropanoid esters, non-phenolic compounds, triterpene saponins, iridoid glucosides, benzoates, triterpenoids, monoterpenes, acetogenins, steroids, shikimates as well as other trace elements have been identified in the plant. The flower has a pleasant fragrance and contains many flavonoids including apigenin, acacetin-7-O-β-D-glucoside, diosmin, rutin etc. The lanceolate leaves are rich in essential oil with tridecane, β-caryophyllene oxide, anethole and phytol as major components. This review provides morphological, ethnomedical, pharmacological and phytochemical data of the plant Buddleja...

Metal nanoparticles are usually synthesized using various chemical methods such as chemical reduction, Solvo-thermal reduction, electrochemical techniques and photochemical reaction in reverse micelles. All these methods are divided into two categories chemical and green chemical. Each having certain advantages and disadvantages. In this study we have tried to give a few examples of these methods for the synthesis of Titanium dioxide nanoparticles and further discussed to compare the...

Aim of the current study was to evaluate the efficacy of non polar extract (NPE) of Aloe vera gel (AVG) for 60 days (~25μg/daily/orally) in rodent model of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). After treatment, steroid hormones and insulin levels were estimated by ELISA, serum lipid profile along with ovarian steroidal enzyme activity. Also, transcript as well as protein level of key receptors and steroidogenic enzymes were evaluated. Parallely, pairs of ovaries were excised and stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) to monitor the structural changes from group of animals. During course of study, stability of non polar extract (NPE) of AVG was evaluated by High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC) during study (15, 30, 45, 60 days). PCOS rats after treatment with NPE demonstrated a decrease in serum testosterone and insulin level with improved estradiol and progesterone levels. Also, decrease in transcripts level of steroid receptors while increased aromatase expression were observed after NPE treatment. These genes expression study was correlated with relative changes were observed with protein expressions....

The aim of this work is to prepare self-micro-emulsifying drug delivery system (SMEDDS) for oral bioavailability enhancement of a poorly water soluble drug, Pitavastatin. Solubility of Pitavastatin was determined in various vehicles. SMEDDS is mixture of surfactants, oils and co-surfactants, which are emulsified in aqueous media under conditions of digestive motility and gentle agitation that would be take place in the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract. Pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were made to detect the efficient self-emulsification region and particle size distributions of the resulting micro-emulsions were resolute using a laser diffraction sizer. Optimized formulations for in vitro dissolution and bioavailability assessment were Capmul PG 8, Tween 80 and Transcutol P. The release rate of Pitavastatin from SMEDDS have significantly higher than the conventional tablet. These suggest the superiority of prepared SMEDDS of Pitavastatin calcium for In-vitro drug release that may further in enhancement of bioavailability. Our studies illustrated the prospective use of SMEDDS for the delivery of hydrophobic compounds, such as Pitavastatin by the oral...

This study was designed to determine the extent of photolytic degradation of diazepam tablets, without light-protective packaging, available in the market. The UV spectroscopy method was designed and applied for this purpose. A total of 2160 tablets (each tablet contained 5 mg diazepam) of three different brand formulations A, B and C were chosen randomly. These tablets were then exposed to different indirect and direct lighting conditions i.e. normal room light condition (for 60 days), direct sunlight exposure (6 hours per day for 3 days), 25 Watt incandescent light bulb exposure and 40 Watt incandescent light bulb exposure (6 hours per day for 3 days). Samples from these light exposures were analyzed for potency determination using UV spectrophotometer and compared against the tablets kept in dark place (Control). Tablets of all three formulations showed marked degradation. The overall average degradations were 23.64%±5.53%; 28.36%±4.87%; 19.72%±4.83% and 25.40%±4.17% respectively for normal room light, direct sunlight, 25 Watt and 40 Watt incandescent bulbs whereas tablets kept in dark place showed little or...
