Colorants are widely used in food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and textile industry to improve customer perception and acceptability. The hazardous effects and legislation of synthetic dyes minimize its applications thus the search for natural pigments is in trend. Plant natural pigments are widely used as alternative not only because of their high availability as colouring agent, but also they exhibits abundance of health-promoting values such as antioxidant and antimicrobial activity which favour human beings. Drawbacks of natural pigments including its stability and cost hindered its popularity in industry but the emerging of modern technologies is expected to overcome this problems. This review focuses on the natural colorant from plants source, production technologies and their implication in wellness industry; i.e. food, cosmetic and...

Free radicals are atoms or groups of atoms with an unpaired number of electrons and can be formed when oxygen interacts with certain molecules. Once formed these highly reactive radicals can start a chain reaction, like dominoes. These free radicals become more lethal when they react with important cellular components such as DNA, or the cell membrane. Cells may function poorly or die if this occurs. Free radicals play a crucial role in a complex interplay of different mechanisms in both normal ageing and neurodegenerative diseases. Free radicals and other reactive oxygen species are generated continuously via normal physiological processes, more so in pathological conditions. The different solvent extracts of Evolvulus alsinoides at different concentrations i.e. 0.1mg/ml, 0.2 mg/ml, 0.4 mg/ml, 0.6 mg/ml, 0.8 mg/ml and 1.0 mg/ml showed significant in-vitro antioxidant activity DPPH (2, 2-diphenyl -1- picrylhydrazyl) assay and hydrogen peroxide scavenging assay against standards L-ascorbic acid and Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) respectively. Therefore, the EC50 values for DPPH assay are EEA=196.08±2.16 μg/ml and HAEA=307.66±1.72 μg/ml and for hydrogen...

In this study, the stomach environment of paracetamol and metaclopramide active substances was prepared with the aid of chemometric method and UV spectrophotometer and their concentrations were measured at certain ratios. Spectra of these two active substances were observed separately in UV spectroscopy at different concentrations. Spectra of paracetamol and metaclopromide were observed by UV spectroscopy at certain ratios and concentrations. These observed spectra gave us an idea by using the chemometric method to generate numerical data indicating whether these two drugs should be used together. Absorbance and concentration values were used in Minitab and other chemometric programs to calculate estimated concentrations with PCR and PLS. In the first step, the synthetic mixtures including paracetamol and metaclopromide were prepared and absorbance values are obtained from spectrophotometry. The second step, in drug tablets (Parol and Metpamid) was calculated amounts for paracetamol and metaclopromide. Because of recovery and standard deviation were accomplished, this study encouraged us to applied for drug...

Andrographolide (AG) is a purified isolate of chemical synthesis resulted from sambiloto herbs (Andrographis paniculata Nees.), which has various pharmacological actions such as anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotector, antidiabetic, inhibition of replication of the HIV virus, antimalarial, anti-arthritic, anti-hyperlipidemic, anticancer, antimicrobial, immunomodulator and antiparasitic. To enhance the ability of AG to penetrate the membrane on transdermal administration, it is important to conduct the formation of inclusion complexes using beta cyclodextrin (BCD) because it has benefit such as enhancing drug release and/or permeation and stabilizing drugs in the formulation or at the absorptive site. The inclusion complexes of AG with BCD was prepared by a solvent evaporation method with mole ratio of 1:1, 1:2 and 2:1. The solids of AG inclusion complex resulted in the BCD were characterized using physical characterization of X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscope, compared to the single compound of AG, BCD, and a physical mixture of AG-BCD. Based on the results of physical characterization, the ratio that indicates the formation of inclusion complexes AG-BCD is the...

Mercury is a hazardous, environmental and industrial pollutant, and causes several health issues related to various organs such as brain, kidney, gut, liver. In 2013, Environmental Protection Agency, USA, reported a higher concentration of mercury (5.8 µg/L) in approximately 1.4 million women (2.3% of total USA population) of reproductive age. Based on this prevalence, it was estimated that more than 75,000 newborns would have increased risk of learning disabilities associated with in-utero exposure to methylmercury annually. Curcumin, an active compound of turmeric, is well known for its antioxidant property and used in various diseases including inflammation and cancer. Here, we have shown that curcumin administration decreases mercury accumulation in liver and kidneys, and which leads to suppression of mercury toxicity. For the purpose, experimental rats were administered mercury chloride with and without curcumin treatment in time dependent manner. At the end of the study, we observed that the accumulation of mercury was higher into liver than kidneys measured using ICP-AES. Curcumin treatment significantly reduces mercury accumulation up to 58...
