A new, simple and low cost spectrophotometric method for the determination of teneligliptin, a new DPP IV inhibitor drug in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage form using sodium nitroprusside was developed. The absorbance maximum (λmax) of the resulted colored product was at 445 nm. As different solvents were tried methanol was found to be the most suitable solvent. The Beer’s law has been obeyed in the concentration range of 4 – 20 µg/ml with the detection limits of 0.09µg/ml and limit of Quantification of 0.28µg/ml. The correlation coefficient was found to be (r = 0.9999). The reaction ratio between teneligliptin and sodium nitroprusside was studied and found to be 1:1. The method was validated and results obtained for the assay of two different brands of teneligliptin tablets were compared. The repeatability and reproducibility of the developed method were evaluated and the obtained results...

Antioxidants are one of the key troupes in tumorigenesis, several natural and artificial antioxidants were shown to have anticancer effects. The aim of the current study is to reveal the chemopreventive nature of citral during diethylnitrosamine (DEN) -induced liver cancer in male Wistar albino rats. Administration of DEN to rats caused in amplified relative liver weight and serum marker enzymes aspartate transaminase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), alanine transaminase (ALT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and gamma glutamyltranspeptidase (γGT). The levels of lipid peroxides prominent (in both serum and tissue) with a succeeding reduction in the final body weight and tissue antioxidants like superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR). Citral supplementation (100 mg/kg body weight) knowingly reduced these alterations, thereby showing powerful anticancer effect in liver cancer. Histological interpretations revisions were also conceded out, which supplementary supports to the chemopreventive action of the citral against DEN induction during liver cancer progression. These explanations suggest that citral inhibits lipid peroxidation, hepatic cell damage, and...

Dithiolphenole (DP) has been synthesized and characterized with IR and NMR spectroscopic methods. A simple and spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of trace amounts of vanadium (IV, V). The reagents forms blue coloured insoluble in water complex with vanadium (IV, V) in a weakly acidic and slightly alkaline medium (pH 2.5 – 8.5). In the presence of hydrophobic amines (Am) form ternary complexes. As hydrophobic amine-phenantroline (Phen), batophenantroline (BPhen) and dipiridile (Dip) were used. The molar absorptivity of coloured species are (2.95 – 3.85) × 104 L.mol-1 cm-1. Beer’s law is obeyed in the range 0.2 – 18 μg/ml of vanadium (IV, V) at λmax 610 – 630 nm. Vanadium (IV, V) forms 1: 1: 1 complex with DP and Am, stability constant of the complex was found to be 9.58 – 10.95 (pHopt = 6.4 – 7.9). The proposed method was successfully applied to the analysis of vanadium in soil, natural water samples and plant material. The results obtainned were agreed with the reported methods...

Artocarpus heterophyllus belongs to the family Moraceae. In Sri Lankan traditional medicine the water extract of A. heterophyllus senescent leaves is used to control diabetes mellitus. The hypoglycemic activity of ethyl acetate fraction of water extract of senescent leaves has been reported. Ethyl acetate fraction (EA/W) was fractionated using sephadex LH-20 column chromatography using the solvent systems: dichloromethane/hexane (4:1), dichloromethane/acetone (3:2), dichloromethane/acetone (1:4), dichloromethane/ methanol (1:1) and methanol to produce five fractions. EA/W and fractions 1-5 were subjected to in-vitro antioxidant, α- glucosidase inhibitory, antiglycation and anti-inflammatory activity studies. Fraction 4 exhibited the highest DPPH radical scavenging activity (IC50 = 21.69 ± 0.31 μg/mL) and α- glucosidase inhibitory activity (IC50 = 0.4± 0.01 μg/ mL) which were greater than the standards gallic acid and acarbose respectively and EA/W. Fractions 3 and 4 showed higher antiglycation activity (IC50 = 0.44 ± 0.04 mg/mL and 0.30 ± 0.01 μg/mL respectively) and higher anti-inflammatory activity (IC50 = 24.4 ± 3.8 and 16.9 ± 0.1 μg/mL respectively) than any other fraction or EA/W. However, these...

Pogostemon quadrifolius (Benth.) is a medicinal aromatic shrub in family Lamiaceae which is used as folk medicine in India. This present study deals with the preliminary screening of Pogostemon quadrifolius antimicrobial activity and TLC profiling of the crude plant extract. Cold extraction technique was carried out to prepare the crude plant extract, which was further screened for the presence of phytochemicals. The extracts were assessed for antibacterial and antifungal studies by disc diffusion method. Thin layer chromatography was utilized for solvent standardization. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of diverse classes of bioactive components. The quantitative analysis of flavanoids, alkaloids and total phenolic content in different extracts varied from each other. Evaluation of antibacterial studies showed that methanolic extract and ethyl acetate extract showed activity against standard and MDR strains respectively. The ethanolic extract also showed fungicidal activity. And finally the solvent standardization was performed for the separation of phyto-constituents by TLC, which showed a very good abundance of active principles (based on their Rf values). All these preliminary reports...
