Background: Capsaicin, a bioactive compound derived from the dried fruit of the Solanaceae family, is widely recognized for its therapeutic potential. Its mechanism of action involves interaction with TRPV1 receptors, leading to analgesic effects and modulation of neurogenic inflammation. Objective: This review explores the therapeutic applications of capsaicin, particularly its role in treating non-allergic rhinitis, neuropathic pain, and inflammatory conditions. It also highlights its potential in preventing pneumonia and cluster headaches. Methods: A comprehensive review of existing clinical studies and randomized controlled trials (RCTs) observational studies, and systematic reviews, Randomised placebo- controlled, double blind study, Clinical case series with pre-post outcome assessment was conducted to evaluate capsaicin’s efficacy, and mechanisms of action. Special emphasis was placed on intranasal formulations and their impact on nasal sensory nerve Fibers. Results: Capsaicin has demonstrated significant benefits in reducing nasal symptoms, improving nasal airflow, and alleviating neuropathic pain. Repeated nasal applications have been shown to provide prolonged relief for idiopathic rhinitis, while intranasal capsaicin has been effective in cluster headache prevention. Studies indicate...

A sensitive, specific and precise HPTLC method for simultaneous estimation of Fenofibrate and Rosuvastatin has been developed and validated. The method employed aluminium plates pre-coated with silica gel 60 F254 as the stationary phase. The solvent system consisted of n-Hexane: Acetone: Ethyl acetate: Glacial acetic acid (4: 5: 0.9: 0.1, v/v/v/v) which was found to give compact and dense spots for Fenofibrate and Rosuvastatin (RF value 0.83 ± 0.05 and 0.35 ± 0.05 respectively). Densitometric analysis of both drugs was carried out at 300 nm. Linear relationship was found with calibration curve for linearity in concentration range of 25-75 mg/spot and 167-501 mg/spot for Rosuvastatin and Fenofibrate with Correlation coefficient value 0.992 and 0.991 respectively. This method was found to be good percentage recovery for Rosuvastatin and Fenofibrate in between 98% to 102%. All parameters of validation of the formulations were found within the limit as per ICH...

Patients with diagnosed BPH, suffer very frequently from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). It is very crucial to find the types, prevalence, and impact of LUTS in association with age, glycaemic index, and modifiable risk factors for developing targeted management strategies. The research seeks to determine types of LUTS present in BPH patients across various age groups and their impact on QoL; and impact of glycaemic levels, as well as the sociodemographic factors like smoking and alcohol use on the severity of the LUTS/BPH. This is a prospective observational study conducted from September 2023 to February 2024 at Narayana Medical College and Hospital of Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh. 200 male patients above 45 years old with LUTS/BPH were selected by the random sampling technique. Data was collected using an IPSS questionnaire, and therefore analysed using qualitative and quantitative approaches, as well as multiple regression analysis and ANOVA. This study captures the multifactorial impacts of LUTS in BPH patients and underscores the importance of addressing modifiable risk factors and co-existing...

Kinetics of oxidation of L-cysteine and DL- Methionine by potassium permanganate in alkaline medium was studied spectro-photometrically at room temperatue. The reaction was found to be of first order with respect to amino acid, zero order with respect to oxidant and fractional order dependence on Alkali. It was found that the rate of the reaction increases with increase in concentration of [OH-]. There is a good agreement between observed and calculated rate constant under experimental conditions. The activation parameters are computed with respect to the slow step of the reaction. Cysteine exhibits relatively consistent kinetic behavior than Methionine. The oxidation product of the reaction was found to be cysteine and Methionine sulfoxide. A plausible reaction mechanism has been proposed for the experimental...

Background: Misleading advertisements in the healthcare sector, particularly concerning Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy (ASU & H) products, pose significant risks to public health. Despite existing regulations, the prevalence of such advertisements remains a concern, necessitating comprehensive strategies for mitigation. Methods: This cross-sectional analysis examines misleading advertisements reported by the Siddha Regional Research Institute (SRRI), Puducherry, functioning as a Peripheral Pharmacovigilance Centre for Siddha. Data from August 2018 to October 2023 were analyzed, focusing on reported instances, categorization by disease system, prevalent advertising channels, and implications. Results: A total of 69 misleading advertisements were reported by SRRI during the study period. Analysis revealed a notable prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in reported advertisements, with a significant focus on Diabetes Mellitus. Print media, electronic platforms, and other sources were identified as major channels for advertisement dissemination. Discussion: The findings underscore the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address misleading advertisements on ASU & H drugs. Regional variations in reporting patterns highlight the importance of localized approaches. Regulatory reforms heightened public...
