This study was undertaken to examine the antioxidant activity of methanolic extract of rhizomes of Curcuma caesia using DPPH free radical scavenging assay. The IC50 (The concentration of sample required to scavenge 50% of DPPH free radical) was calculated by plotting graph between % inhibition vs concentration. The Butylated Hydroxytoluene was used as standard antioxidant in comparison to methanolic extract of Curcuma caesia. The IC 50 value of extract and Butylated Hydroxytoluene was found to be 862.35 µgm and 46.25 µgm for 2 ml of 500 µM concentration of DPPH. This suggests that methanolic extract of Curcuma caesia had moderate IC 50 value as compared to Butylated...

Aim: Litsea glutinosa (L.) a medicinal plant is popularly used as herbal remedy for various ailments. But the scientific basis for its medicinal use especially in pain and inflammation remains unknown. Therefore, the present study was designed to evaluate analgesic potential of the ethanolic extract of the bark of the plant. Approach: The analgesic activity of standard tramadol HCl was determined for its central pharmacological actions using hotplate method in mice. Simultaneously the ethanolic extract was also investigated for its analgesic action. Results: The extract, at the dose of 100 and 300 mg/ Kg, has shown a significant (p<0.05) increase in pain threshold in hotplate, as compared with control...

Chlorpyrifos (CPF) an Organophosphate insecticide was evaluated for its potential to produce reproductive toxicity in rats following oral exposure. In the present study mice were given CPF at the dose level of 10 mg/kg body weight by Gavage method for 14 and 21 days. Morphological alterations of ovary were examined under LM. Its oxidative stress levels were also evaluated by Lipid peroxidation levels and hormonal changes (FSH) were also measured to evaluate the fertility rate in case of CPF induced toxicity mice. Bioremediation was done to the toxicity induced mice using extracted curcumin at 100 mg/kg body weight for 7 days. In control group, the germinal epithelium was continuous with prominent and well defined different stages of graffian follicles. While in chlorpyrifos treated group ruptured germinal epithelium with multiple nuclei were observed. Degenerated ovum was observed in matured graffian follicles. Rudimentary cells were observed in corpus leutium. Many vacuolated spaces were observed in ovarian cortex which is unusual. Significant increase in serum LPO levels and decrease in FSH levels...

Present study deals with effect of Vit. C against lead toxicity animals were divided into three groups of six rats each. One group of served as control which received only vehicle, second group was given lead acetate at a dose level of 0.3mg/ml for 7, 14 days chronically and third group received Vit. C (0.15mg/100ml) along with lead acetate and result were analyzed for hematological parameter i.e. RBC, WBC count and haemoglobin. It was noticed that hematological parameters were reduced due to lead acetate-treatment but when Vit. C was given along with lead the values tend to be normal at 14 days which suggest that Vit. C is a good antioxidant is overcome lead...

The study is aimed at development of physicochemical parameters and to investigate the active principle present in Nerium indicum. Nerium indicum (Apocynacea) commonly known as kanner is an important plant used against various disorders in indigenous system of medicine such as cardiotonic, antibacterial and antidiabetic. Thus from the extensive literature survey it was revealed that no reports were available on microscopic evaluation, standardization parameters and chemo profile of Nerium indicum to check the identity and purity of the drug. The present work embodies the investigations carried out to establish methods for quality control of drugs as per who guidelines: complete botanical evaluation which comprises macroscopic, microscopy physicochemical parameters like loss on drying extractive value, foaming index, ash value and to investigate the Phytochemical present the extract in the preliminary level with respect to thin layer chromatography were also carried out for the quality control of the drug. Thus, it was thought worthwhile to explore this plant on the basis of these standardization parameters. The study will provide referential information...
