The paper presents the pharmacognostical studies of leaves of Spinacia oleracea Linn. (Amaranthaceae) commonly known as Palak, a traditional medicinal plant with high nutritional value, used as anti diabetic, anti bacterial and hepatoprotective agent. Extensive literature survey revealed that no reports were available on organoleptic, microscopic and physicochemical properties of Spinacia oleracea Linn. The present study was undertaken to perform pharmacognostical research which can support the identification and characterization of the plant....

Celecoxib is a selective cox-2 inhibitor is indicated to the treatment of Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, acute painful primary Dysmenorrhoea. It is also superior to other NSAID’s, due to lower incidences of symptomatic gastrointestinal ulcer complications than other NSAID’s. Celecoxib is practically insoluble in water. The present investigation deals with enhancement of dissolution rate of Celecoxib using Mannitol as carrier with different techniques like physical mixtures, kneading method and solvent evaporation method. The dispersions were evaluated for drug content uniformity, dissolution rate study, T50, DE20, ANOVA. The FTIR & DSC were used to characterize solid state of solid dispersions. A marked increased in the dissolution rate was observed with all solid dispersions, among that Celecoxib : Mannitol (1:4) KM. Showed maximum drug release which was selected for formulation of tablets and evaluated for drug release characteristics. The promising formulation (F2) was then compared with existing marketed product, the release profiles was studied in water containing 2 % SLS. The release study showed that these are fast release formulations of Celecoxib....

The Profens have indicated the gastrointestinal side effects due to the acidic moiety of the profen. The Profens are bitter in taste and it is omitted by mostly children. Therefore an attempt has been made to prepare the ester Prodrug using ethyl alcohol and butyl alcohol and its bitter taste is masked by using β-Cyclodextrin. The prepared prodrugs are characterised by melting point, UV and IR spectroscopy. The bitter taste intensity was evaluated using volunteers by comparison of test samples with standard solutions containing quinine at various concentrations....

Mussaenda erythrophylla is native to western tropical Africa, occasionally seen in gardens and parks as ornamental plant in India and belongs to Rubiaceae family. The present study was concentrated on the in vitro antioxidant methods like superoxide radical, hydroxyl radical, lipid peroxidation and DPPH radical methods. The ethylacetate and methanolic extracts of Mussaenda erythrophylla were subjected for the above methods. The results of anti oxidant activity revealed that, the ethylacetate extract has lower IC50 values than the methanolic extract of Mussaenda erythrophylla. The lower IC50 value indicates the higher free radical scavenging ability. So, the ethylacetate extract has better antioxidant activity than methanolic extract. The results were compared with the standard ascorbic acid. The plant contains phytosterols, triterpenoids, flavonoids, glycosides, saponins and tannins. These active constituents alone or in combination may be responsible for the observed antioxidant...

Niosomes are self assembled vesicles composed primarily of synthetic surfactants and cholesterol. They are analogous in structure to the more widely studied liposomes formed from biologically derived phospholipids. Niosomes represent an emerging class of novel vesicular systems. Niosome formation requires the presence of a particular class of amphiphile and aqueous solvent. In recent years a comprehensive research carried over niosome as a drug carrier. Various drugs are enlisted and tried in niosome surfactant vesicles. Niosomes proved to be a promising drug carrier and has potential to reduce the side effects of drugs and increased therapeutic effectiveness in various...
