A new Reversed Phase-High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method was developed and validated for the quantitation of Cefpodoxime proxetil (Cef) and Potassium clavulanate (Pot. clav.) in pharmaceutical formulations. Determination was performed using a Hypersil-BDS (C-18) column (5 μm, 250 mm 4.60 mm), a mobile phase containing phosphate buffer (5.5 pH): acetonitrile (51:49 v/v), in isocratic flow rate 1 mL/min. with UV detection at 233.0 nm. The retention time (tR) for Cef and Pot. clav. were 5.63 min. and 2.49 min. respectively. Linear relationships were obtained between response and amount of drug with high correlation coefficients (r2) in the range 1-60 µg mL-1 for Cef (r2 = 0.9966 ) and 0.5-60 µg mL-1 for Pot. clav. (r2 = 0.9954). The method was validated for precision, accuracy and robustness as per ICH guidelines. Inter- and intraday relative standard deviation values for Cef were 0.801% and 0.692% respectively and 0.905% and 1.042% for Pot. clav. respectively. Total recoveries of Cefand Pot. clav. from the tablet formulation were 99.71% and 99.51% respectively. The specificity of the method...

Reactive Oxygen Species is a phrase used to describe a number of reactive molecules and free radicals derived from molecular Oxygen. The production of Oxygen based radicals is the bane to all aerobic species where its excessive levels intern induces oxidative stress. The present study is to evaluate the anti-stress property of Acorus calamus (vacha), where the fruit flies in different groups are assayed for Stress related marker enzymes like SOD, CAT, and GPx. Where its activity in Stress induced flies (MTX treated) has increased compared to that of control flies. After incorporation of the plant sample there is reduction in level of these defensive enzymes there by vacha has increased the ability to scavenge ROS lowering the free radical concentration and reducing the expression of stress related marker enzymes in the stress induced flies. Thus, vacha may have anti-stress property i.e ability to reduce the level of...

In the pot experiment, Solanum nigrum L. treated with different concentration of Cd showed high accumulation of Cd in plant. Growth of plant was not significantly affected up to ≤ 50ppm Cd treated plant, The trends of Cd accumulation in plant were leaf>shoot>root with increasing concentration of Cd and DAS. Plant accumulates 298, 92 and 58 ppm of Cd after 60DAS in leaf>shoot>root respectively, at 50ppm Cd treatment. Solasodine and proline content was increased at ≤ 40 to 50 ppm Cd treated plant, while APX and CAT activity showed the survivability against Cd toxicity up to ≤ 60ppm of Cd. Qualitative phytochemical analysis viz. alkaloids, tannins and flavonoids were dominant at early days and unaffected up to ≤30ppm Cd treated plant. BF and TF for was >1.0 for Cd in Solanum nigrum L. hence the Cd accumulation capacity of the Solanum nigrum L. could make it useful for phytoremediation of the...

The studies on allergen causing bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis were done by testing Immunoglobulin E level and absolute Eosinophil count to clinical patients in JEBI laboratory. The patients were from urban and rural areas, comprising both males and females in all age groups. Out of 613 patients, 523 patients were having markedly increased IgE level and 147 patients were found increased Eosinophil count. They were allergic to various allergens, most commonly to dust allergen – 383 patients, to ice cold food – 285 patients, mosquito repellent allergen – 212 patients, climatic condition in 189 patients. Hence, it is well established that modernization, change of food habits, Industrialization and luxurious life style increases the incidents of atopic diseases. There are different tests done to determine allergy and various treatments; but the best way is to slowly eliminate various factors from your life and watch for improvement in...

Wolf berries or Goji berries (Lycium barbarum L. Solanaceae) have a long tradition as food and medicinal plant. The bark of Goji berries is generally harvested in the winter season and then dried to be used for diuretic purposes. Hence, this study was designed to evaluate the possible diuretic effects of powdered L. barbarum. The study was conducted in saline primed Wistar albino rats (n=6) using frusemide (10 mg/kg) as the reference diuretic drug with two oral doses, 250mg/kg/day and 500mg/kg/day, of the test drug. Urine volume and electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium and Chloride) excretion was estimated at the end of 24 hours and data was analyzed by ANOVA followed by Dunnett’s test. P < 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. L. barbarum statistically increased the volume of urine (8.08 ±0.35ml/100g/24hr and 10.05±0.51ml/100gm/24hr) in a dose dependent manner. There was a statistical significant increase in sodium ion excretion (143.17±9.5 m.mol/L at 250mg/kg and 182±8.25 m.mol/L at 500ml/kg) when compared to the normal control (107±2.11 m.mol/L). However, there was a statistically...
