A new, simple, sensitive, precise, accurate and stability indicating RP-HPLC method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of N-Acetyl-L-cysteine and Ambroxol Hydrochloride in combined tablet formulation. The combination is mainly used as mucolytic. The study aimed at developing and validating a method which can be used easily and effectively for determination of given drugs in various formulations. The analysis was carried out at 220 nm and the range was obtained as 3-18 µg/ml for AMB and 20-120 µg/ml for NAC. Recovery studies indicated that the drug recovery from the formulation was within acceptable limits. The developed method was statistically evaluated. The %RSD values reported were less than 2 all through the validation which indicates variations in the results are minimal. Thus the proposed method of analysis was found to be simple, sensitive, accurate, precise, rapid and also economical and can be applied successfully for simultaneous estimation of both N-Acetyl-L-cysteine and Ambroxol Hydrochloride in bulk and combined tablet...

Background: The relation between Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and cognitive impairment is an important public health issue because the prevalence of CKD is increased worldwide. In recent years, chronic kidney disease has been proposed as an independent risk factor for cognitive decline but the available data are conflicting. In the present study, we examined the relations of CKD and lower renal filtration function with a broad range of cognitive functions in a dementia-free community-based population. Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, questionnaire based study was conducted at Nephrology department of Govt. Medical College, Calicut. Montreal Cognitive Assessment Questionnaire was used to assess cognitive status. Patient’s divided into 5 groups depending on stage of chronic kidney disease. Estimated glomerular filtration rate was calculated using modification of diet in renal disease equation. Results: 210 patients were enrolled in the study. 53.8% have mild cognitive impairment and 46.2% have normal cognitive status. Education with cognitive status was found to be statistically significant (P=0.000). Conclusion: Decreased kidney function associated with greater cognitive decline, even in...

Syzygium dhaneshiana is a new plant species of Syzygium is described from the Southern Western Ghats, Kerala, India. The medicinal values of the plant is so far unexplored, hence the study forms a basis for the bioactive components present in the plant. The aim of this study is to screen the phytochemicals present in the leaf and bark of the plant and the analysis of bioactive components present in it. The leaves and bark were successively extracted using petroleum ether, chloroform, ethanol and water based on the increasing order of polarity. The result reveals the presence of Carbohydrates, protein, amino acid, alkaloids and phenols in all the extracts. Saponin, fixed oils and fats were present in the leaf extracts. The GCMS analysis reports shows the presence of 17 Compounds in the leaf ethanolic and 19 in leaf chloroform extract of Syzygium dhaneshiana by comparing their retention time and their mass spectra. The bark ethanolic and chloroform comprises of 14 &16 Compounds respectively. Among the identified compounds major bioactive compounds...

Introduction: The warfarin management programs include mainly routine INR measurement, dosing protocols, clinical management protocols for excessive anticoagulation, and patient education. There have been numerous investigations to explore the most appropriate model for outpatients, accordingly different Anticoagulation Management Programs have been emerged in practice. Aims and objectives: This study is an attempt to develop concise warfarin protocol that expands role for the community pharmacist in Iraq. Patients and methods: A prospective case-controlled carried out on patients discharged from the hospital on warfarin therapy in combination to their prescribed medications. The follow up was achieved by four visits starting from 8-10 days after hospital discharge until 90 days. patients who were allocated into Intervention group received designed warfarin management program , and control group on ‘usual care’ monitoring. Results: The percentage of patients with international normalized ratio (INR) levels is within therapeutic/target range in the intervention group was significantly higher than that in the control group (66.67% vs. 34.78%) after 90 days of monitoring program (p˂0.05). During 90 days of...

The main objective of the work was to extract the active ingredient in Cymbopogon citratus leave and to formulate a mosquito repellent cream naturally obtained from medicinal plants instead of commonly available synthetic repellents and insecticides such as N-Diethyl-3methylbenzamide (DEET), which are carcinogenic and non eco-friendly. The formulation of cream have smooth texture with a pH 7.30 which is non-irritant and suitable for the skin. The efficacy of the extract of Lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) was investigated on mosquito in this research using different concentrations of the oil extract. The sample (cream) with the highest concentration of the active ingredient extracted was found to be most effective in repelling mosquitoes. Ethanol and Hexane were used to extract the essential oil and Gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometer (GC-MS) was used to analyse the constituents in the extracted active oil. The most abundant constituents observed in the hexane extract are cyclotetracosane (4.05%) and naphthalene (5.03%). Hexane proved to be a better solvent by giving a percentage yield of 7.8% of essential oil while...
