The title compounds (7a-f), (8a-f) and (9a-f) have been prepared from chalcones (6a-f) having s-triazine nucleus. These chalcones on cyclisation with hydroxyl amine hydrochloride in the presence of alkali and malononitrile in the presence of ammonium acetate give isoxazoles (7a-f) and cyanopyridines (8a-f) respectively. Chalcones (6a-f) on condensation with 2-amino thiophenol in the presence of glacial acetic acid give benzothiazepines (9a-f). Structures of newly synthesised compounds were established on the basis of their elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR. All the synthesised compounds have been screened for their antimicrobial...

The purpose of this study was to produce of microparticles for Dry Powder Inhalation, produced by environmentally driven Amphiphilic crystallization technique process by using different nonionic surfactants at different concentration and at different processing parameters, for inhalation therapy. Budesonide, as one of the inhaled glucocorticosteroids, is widely used in the treatment of asthma by pulmonary delivery. The objective of the current work was to developed microcrystals by using Amphiphilic crystallization process with different nonionic surfactants at different processing parameters. Salvation of Budesonide in aqueous Cremophor EL and Tween 20(1:1) was investigated using HPLC. A response surface type central composite design were employed using Design-Expert 5.0 software (StatEase, QD Consulting, Penzance, UK) with the factors investigated were stirrer speed, antisolvent addition rate, Cremophor EL and Tween 20. The crystals were filtered and freeze dried.Optimize the process variables for narrow particle size distribution (PSD). Cremophor EL and Tween 20 were added as the stabilizers. Freeze dried crystals were subjected to XRD, DSC and SEM analysis for stability. The PSD also depended on...

Histopathological changes in developing stomach caused by lead acetate exposure at different days of the postnatal development were investigated in Swiss mice. In this study, pregnant Swiss mice were exposed to 533 mg/kg BW of lead acetate from 10th day of gestation to 21st day of lactation. The pups of exposed groups were sacrificed at 1, 7, 14 and 21 day of lactation period, and the effects of lead on histopathology of developing stomach were observed. Results of the present study showed that administration of lead to pregnant mice caused histopathological change in the stomach of developing pups. It is concluded that lead adversely affects the normal histology of developing stomach in pups exposed during gestation and lactation but it could not delay the major events of postnatal...

Enset (Ensete ventricosum, Musaceae), a plant widely cultivated in south and southwest of Ethiopia, has been shown to be a rich source of starch. In an effort to produce directly compressible matrix-forming excipient, native enset starch was acetylated. Starch acetates (SA) with degrees of substitution (DS) of 0.672 and 2.142 were evaluated. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra of the modified starches verified the acetylation of the starch molecules. Further investigations revealed that acetylation increased swelling power and solubility, improved flow property and compactability of the starch. The tensile strength of SA matrix tablets increased with an increase in DS. Plain tablets of SA with DS 0.672 disintegrated within 3 min while those of SA with DS 2.142 did not disintegrate over a period of 2 h. Dissolution studies of theophylline loaded SA tablets conducted in 0.1 N HCl for the first 1.5 h and in phosphate buffer pH 6.8 for the remaining study time revealed the change in drug release rate from rapid to sustained release (>12 h) as...

Cassia fistula L. (Fabaceae) fruits are reported to possess a wide range of therapeutic properties. In the present work, an HPTLC method has been developed and validated for estimation of β-sitosterol content in C. fistula fruit collected from different geographical regions in and outside India and its polyherbal formulation. Chromatographic separation was achieved on HPTLC plates pre-coated with silica gel 60 F254 using toluene: ethyl acetate: methanol (7:1:0.5, v/v/v) as a mobile phase. A compact spot of β-sitosterol at Rf value of 0.46 ± 0.02 was observed in all the samples of C. fistula by derivatizing the HPTLC plate with 10 % methanolic sulphuric acid reagent followed by its densitometric scanning using CAMAG TLC scanner 4 at 366 nm. The method was validated as per ICH guidelines. Finding of the present work can be used as a routine quality control tool for the assessment of C. fistula fruits in terms of its β-sitosterol...
